Review: Rolling in the Deep by Mira Grant

Seanan Maguire (October Daye, InCryptids) has a new series under the pen name, Mira Grant, called Rolling in the Deep. I think you can summarize it by saying all Mermaids do not look and act like Ariel. I love the structure of this novella. You can read my review here: https://www.gilbertstack.com/horror

Review: Phantoms by Dean Koontz

One of the difficulties with the horror genre is that it is often difficult to come up with a mysterious monster that--once revealed--lives up to all the suspenseful buildup. That is not a problem for Dean Koontz's Phantoms. This novel has one of the most intriguing creature-threats I've ever read in a horror novel--enough so that more than thirty years later I vividly recalled an amazing percentage of this book. If you're looking for a good horror read, you should check out my review: https://www.gilbertstack.com/reviews

Review: The Strike Teams by Mike Adams

Mike Adams' The Strike Teams is the twenty-first volume of his Fierce Girls at War series. We're getting close to the end game now and the stakes just keep getting higher as humanity's first interstellar colony desperately tries to hold on long enough for reinforcements from earth to arrive. If you like military sf, you should definitely take a look at this series. The action is well thought out and the planning sessions would do W.E.B. Griffin proud. Here's my review of The Strike Teams: https://www.gilbertstack.com/fierce-g...

Review: The HighFire Crown by J.T. Lawrence and M.J. Kraus

Jacqueline Knight is that rarity of rarities—a wizard detective—and she’s going to need all of her magical talent and keen detective skills if she’s to unravel the tangle of mysteries threatening her world. If you’re looking for a fast-paced detective story with a mix of magic and fantasy races thrown in, you should take a look at The HighFire Crown by J.T. Lawrence and M.J. Kraus. Review: War Eagles by Debbie Bishop and Carl Macek

Looking for an over the top heroic adventure? Not enough for you? What if we throw in some Nazi bad guys and some Vikings riding giant eagles? That's what you get with War Eagles by Debbie Bishop and Carl Macek. It's big screen excitement and thanks to the narrative skills of William L. Hahn, you can practically see the battles (which might be a tiny problem if you listen as you drive like I do). Here's my review: https://www.gilbertstack.com/other-sf

Review: To Reign in Hell by Stephen Brust

To Reign in Hell by Stephen Brust retells the story of The War In Heaven with a big and (in my opinion) unfortunate twist. You can read my review here: https://www.gilbertstack.com/reviews

Review: Let It Rain by Mike Adams

Mike Adams impressive Fierce Girls at War series has just released its twentieth volume: Let It Rain. The stakes keep raising as the alien invasion of New Hope colony creeps closer to total conquest, but the human colonists are nothing if not creative and they aren't going down without a fight. You can read my review here: https://www.gilbertstack.com/fierce-g...
