Vampire Month! Featuring Rebecca Hamilton's The Forever Girl and Her Sweetest Downfall!

Vampire Month!

It's Vampire month on Paranormal Lounge! All month long I'll be featuring authors of vampire books and their work with interviews, reviews and more! I'll be wrapping it all up with an in-depth feature on Obsidian, my debut novel! So, sit down and read all about those bloodsucking creatures we love to hate!

First up for Vampire Month we have Rebecca Hamilton and her books, The Forever Girl and Her Sweetest Downfall.  I interviewed Rebecca about the type of vampires she writes about and I have a review of each one after the interview!

Before I jump into the interview, I have to tell you that Her Sweetest Downfall is available for FREE October 1st - 3rd!

The Forever Girl is only $2.99 so grab them both!

How are the vampires in your world different from others?

The Cruor in my novel are most like the legends of vampires that we know today. They can be killed by direct sunlight, staking, and decapitation. Where they differ are in their myths. For example, that the first Cruor were humans who were mistakenly buried alive. Or that they narcissus is a good vampire repellent, and how this knowledge came to be know :)Do the vampires in your world possess any of the traditional vampire traits? No reflection? Burning in the sun? Being immortal? Aversion to crosses, holy water and/or garlic? Turning into a bat? Killed by a wooden stake? Fangs? Other?
Traditional traits include immortality, burning in the sun, fangs, and being killed by staking. Why did you choose to write about vampires?
Because I'm a lemming! No, but really, I have no idea. I didn't really "choose" to do it so much as I sat down to write and that is what came out.Do you remember the first vampire story you read in a book or watched on a movie or television show?
Yes.What makes vampire stories appealing in today’s pop culture?
I think they're just fun. They can be sexy or terrifying, or sometimes both. They can create a sense of danger in a story just as easily as they can create a sense of lust and desire (not always sexual, but hey, sometimes that too!) I think those things are fun and fascinating to read about.

If someone were to see one of your vampires on the street, what would their reaction be? Fear? Attraction? No unique reaction from that of seeing a human?

Depends WHEN they saw them on the street, but in general, most times they wouldn't know what they'd seen, though they might still have a sense of fear that they can't explain.

And now, my review of The Forever Girl:
The Forever Girl is a great book that does a great job at showcasing Wicca as the emerging religion that it is. It's easy to see that Wicca is conceived as a cult religion, but the author shows us that it is in fact a nature based religion. I also thought that her take on vampires was incredibly unique and the fact that she pulled from each of the five elements to explain the beings in this series is great.

The story line is exciting and original, and everything eventually comes to light at the end. I saw no plot holes, which is wonderful and the romance in the novel is subtle yet strong--just the way I like it. I like novels that have a good deal of romance, but aren't completely consumed by it.

The characters are well-developed and fun to get to know. You can invest in their problems and care about them easily.

The story follows Sophia and has good pacing. Twists and turns keep you interested. I read this book very quickly because I just didn'y want to put it down. It's great for any fan of the paranormal.

Lastly, my review of Her Sweetest Downfall:
I loved The Forever Girl and I loved Her Sweetest Downfall.

Her Sweetest Downfall is a wonderful story that gives a behind the scenes look at The Forever Girl. It follows different characters in a different time but it will all tie in to Hamilton's master plan.

The characters are well-developed, the plot is paced perfectly for a novella, and the romance in this book rings true.  I almost cried at one point, that's how real the romance feels when reading Her Sweetest Downfall.

The characters fit their time. Often you see characters that seem too modern to be in the past, but that is not the case here, Hamilton takes you back in time.

I can't wait for the next book in this series, I am a true fan.

Tune back in on Wednesday when Sophia from The Forever Girl makes an appearance for Character of the Week!

Cover Design

Hey guys! I've decided to try out cover designing. I was pretty good with photoshop in high school while on the school paper and yearbook staff.  I also do drawings and paintings, so art is another hobby of mine. A lot of the covers I have up so far are based on my artwork, which I've taken and altered on photoshop. None of the images are from the net, it's all either from my artwork or computer generated with photoshop. So, if there are any indie authors out there looking for covers, take a look at the samples I have up on The Pepper Press. I'll be adding more all the time. I think the pricing is pretty cheap too. After all, how can an indie author afford some of those crazy prices out there?

If you see something you like, let me know. If you have a concept in mind, also let me know I can come up with something. I'm also doing book trailers so take a look at the one I made for Obsidian while you are there! If you buy a cover, you get a 30 second trailer for free or $10 off a longer trailer.

Here's a little preview of what I can do:

Blogger Book Fair Announcement

As some of you may remember, I hosted Blogger Book Fair here on Paranormal Lounge last July. As the lounge was a little crowded I decided to create a seperate blog for future BBF's. Today I announced the dates an theme for the BBF this winter on this new blog. Take a look!

http://bloggerbookfair.blogspot.com/2012/09/winter-2013-blogger-book-fair.html

Blogger Book Fair is essentially a giant, four-day long blog hop. This event includes authors and bloggers working together to cross promote books and works of literature. The first BBF had over 40 authors and over 80 books. I hope to have a lot more this time and hope to see you there!

The 'Look' Challenge!

I was challenged by Christie Rich to find the first instance of the word "look" in my WIP and post the paragraph it's contained in and the surrounding paragraphs as an excerpt! I then have to challenge five other authors to do the same!

I think this print I did fits this post pretty well!

The word appeared sooner than I thought it would. It actually appeared in the first paragraph and then again in the fourth. So I've posted paragraphs one through six of Moonstone here, which incidentally happen to be some very interesting paragraphs. Enjoy!!

Moonstone: Mystic Stones Series #2

"Before the events of Obsidian, there were other incidents leading up to the satellite virus sent out on February 2, 2020. This love story is a behind-the-scenes lookat what happened before the virus went live. It is a story of good and evil and the path to each. It begins about seven years before the virus was unleashed, on April 26, 2013.
 Chapter 1
Dorin
Dorin stood in line at the upscale hotel while two very busy front desk clerks tried to check in the waiting guests. He was fourth in line, and the woman who was second in line had caught his eye. She was thin with long blond hair, which was pulled back into a loose ponytail, and she had bright blue eyes. She was here on business judging from her black skirt and blouse. Finally, the man in front of Dorin doing a funny little dance lost his patience and walked towards the bathrooms.
That’s when Dorin first caught the intoxicating scent of the woman in black. Now third in line, he knew he had a limited amount of time to make conversation. He noticed she wore only one piece of jewelry. How could he not when its force was strongly pushing him away from her. It was a ring that would make it hard for him to get to her—not a wedding ring, but something much more ominous. She acted as if she didn’t know what it did. If she did know then she would have noticed him. Enlightened people always notice him. They usually say nothing since people would only laugh and call them crazy if they did say something.
“That’s a very unique ring you are wearing,” he stated. He was testing the limits. She looked up at him with her big blue eyes and smiled.
“Thank you, my grandmother gave it to me. She carved it herself from a seashell,” she replied.
He could feel its force even stronger now. Pushing him away. Not because she was afraid, but because he wanted to taste her blood and the vampire spirit inside of the ring knew it. The spirit was warning his subconscious mind to stay away, therefore physically pushing Dorin away from her. The fact that he couldn’t harm her because of his curse was the only reason he’d gotten this close to her to begin with. Dorin knew he wouldn’t stay away for long, but the ring would have to come off. The curse was only a small problem. Once she kissed him, she would be his."  Now for the five authors I pick:
A. E. Howard
Victoria H. Smith
Beck Sherman
Jaycee DeLorenzo
Becca J. Campbell

This was so much fun and I hope you guys take advantage of this creative way to reveal a little tidbit of your work!

Character of the Week! Liliana from The Sin Collector Series!

Character of the Week

Liliana (Last name varies)

   Books Liliana appears in:
The Sin Collector Series by Jessica Fortunato

 Female
120 years young
Liliana is a Sin-Eater, or simply a Collector

 Short description of Liliana:
Liliana is petite with alabaster skin, jet-black hair and hazel eyes. She has been Collecting for 100 years. Her transportation of choice is her lilac colored sport motorcycle. Since she doesn’t sleep she is very attached to her sitcom families. They help pass the time. She can see auras however, the origin of that power has yet to be discovered.

Five words that describe Liliana's personality:
Sarcastic, Loving, Intelligent, Brave, Honest

A quote from Liliana:
“Truth was I didn't really want to die today. I was in the middle of a really good book, and being alive had always worked out for me. . ."

Tip for writing realistic characters from Jessica Fortunato:
I suppose the easiest way to create realistic characters is to draw inspiration from the people around you. Every one of my characters has a piece of someone I know in them. Lily's sarcasm is all my own, but the relaxed attitude and self assured nature that came with Thomas was inspired by my brother. Even when it comes to the bad, I think that everyone has had a negative experience to draw from. Even if your characters are supernatural in origin, most of the time they have human emotions, which is something I always want to showcase.
