As we live, we leave pieces of ourselves behind … at the first place we called home, in that cool September air with our high school crush, at that job in that new city, in the heart of a stranger. And at times, we are acutely aware of those pieces we are leaving behind. Whether their loss is accompanied by pain or bliss, we leave some pieces willingly. But then, there are also times when we do not. There are those times when pieces of ourselves will be left behind that we neither willed nor wished to leave behind.
And this is life.

I wrote most of them on a little, secluded beach on Sullivan's Island in South Carolina. I was younger, entranced by the warm, salt water, reflective and dreaming of home.
My hope is that you enjoy the new ballads that live inside the covers of this book. And also, I hope that you find this book a safe place to land when you feel like venturing back into the sleepy, little towns of New Milford, Sweet Home and Ava.
So, in short,this book is old, and this book is new. But like all my small-town stories, this book is ultimately a love story--from my heart to yours.

I'm excited to announce that Love Story, my new collection of poems and quotes, will be available just in time for Valentine's Day!Inside Love Story, you'll find quotes from my small-town novels, along with never-before-seen poems about love, heartbreak, laughter and life in a small town. Until now, most of the poems had been tucked away inside the pages of an old journal. When I lived in South Carolina, the beach on Sullivan’s Island was my favorite place to write, and that's where many of the poems in Love Story were born.
My hope is that you enjoy the new ballads that live inside the covers of this book. And also, I hope that you find it a safe place to land when you feel like venturing back into the sleepy, little towns of New Milford, Sweet Home and Ava.
So, in short, this book is old, and this book is new. But like all my small-town stories, this book is ultimately a love story—from my heart to yours.
