Friday Flames welcomes Brenda Dyer

I admit - I'm a HUGE fan of paranormal romance author Brenda Dyer. Over the weekend I had the opportunity to read her latest release.

All I can say is WOW. My review that'll soon go up on Amazon gives Brenda's book a FIVE STAR rating!

Here's the blurb on Prophecy's Child:

His secret will shatter her world.
Katherine Colby’s life splintered ten years ago when her lover suddenly vanished, leaving her with more than a broken heart. But when Kal unexpectedly makes an appearance, her safe, dependable existence is shattered once more. Drawn into Kal’s deadly world of vampires and demons, she must now put aside her hurt and anger and learn to trust him. Can she forgive past deceptions and find the courage to love again? Or will she turn away the one man who owns her heart and soul?
Her secret will change his life.

Powerful, and lethal, Kal is a vampire warrior, sworn to protect humans from demons. Loving Katherine too much to pull her into his dangerous world, Kal deserted her, believing his decision was best for them both. But not even time could assuage his yearning for the woman who has captured his heart. As fate tosses them together once again, Kal must fight to win Katherine’s trust and forgiveness before evil separates them forever. But is he ready to become the man she needs him to be? Or will he lose the one woman he can’t live without?

Sounds interesting, huh??

Excerpt:

Kal rubbed her shoulders. “Take off your shirt. I need to see you.”
Nervousness put a damper on Katherine’s arousal. Although she’d been lucky enough to escape pregnancy without stretch marks, her body had changed. Her breasts were larger and her hips had a more mature roundness to them. Would he still find her attractive?
“Kat?”
Only one way to find out. She grasped the bottom of her green cotton shirt and pulled it over her head. Thank God she wore her red satin bra and matching panties.
He inhaled, and his eyes darkened. “Now your bra.”
With trembling fingers, she unsnapped her bra. As her breasts sprang free, her nipples puckered. The flimsy garment slid down her arms, to the floor.
“Sweet Jesus. You’re stunning.” Kal bent and tongued one of her stiff peaks. The light touch traveled straight to her slick sex. He sucked one nipple into his warm mouth. The sensation sent a rush of moisture to dampen her panties.
She gripped his hair, holding herself steady and trapping him where she needed him. “Kal…yes…that feels so good.”
“You taste so goddamn delicious,” he growled against her skin before kissing his way across her chest.
His soft lips and the scrape of stubble on his jaw created an agonizing ache between her legs. If this kept up, he’d bring her to orgasm before they hit the bed.
Her other nipple strained for his attention. His mouth closed over it, drawing the tight nub deep. A delighted gasp escaped her as his tongue flicked the peak back and forth.
With both hands, Kal pushed her breasts together and continued to suckle.
Katherine closed her eyes. Her world centered on the wet tugging motion. God, she was so hot. This sweet torture would surely be the death of her.
Releasing her breasts, he then smoothed his hands over her butt, pulling their lower bodies together. “Now your pants.”
She stepped back and undid the button on her jeans. His wild stare lent her courage. The zipper came next. She shoved the soft denim down her legs.
Pure male desire gleamed from his eyes. “You’re more beautiful than I remembered.”

Applause!
Oh yeah...now that's what I'm talking about!

My favorite genre - ROMANCE!
What is it that keeps us coming back for more love, more action, more fantasy and sex? For me, it might be the need to escape my everyday world and gallop through the woods with shapeshifting Centaurs.

Remedy Maker
Man by day, Centaur by night, Rhycious is a remedy maker who needs his own healing.
He's the royal physician, famous for his cures. War and posttraumatic stress disorder has broken his spirit, preventing him from finding true happiness. Then a direct order from the queen to investigate an uprising forces him out of his secluded cabin at the edge of the forest.
Patience is an optimistic, good-natured Wood Nymph who works as a mediator to ensure harmony within the Nymph sector.
Environmental pollution in the aquifer stream that feeds the taproot tree of her heart is slowly killing her. Resigned to the fact she will not live long, she sets out to discover the mysterious disappearance of her sister. Experience has taught her to deny herself the love of a male, but the gruff Centaur is different. He doesn't push his expectations on her, only his healing nature.
When Rhycious loses his grip on reality, he believes his inability to control his disorder will drive Patience away. Nevertheless, desire flares, and Patience draws him close. Kidnapping and betrayal turn their mythic joint venture into a deadly bout.

Will their love endure when survival hinges on trusting each other?
Troll-y Yours
SHE TAKES A CHANCE.
Determined to forge a better life, Ella launches her new business with high hopes—until a sexy Centaur bumps into her and throws her life off course. Voted “Most Eligible Bachelor in Boronda”, Aleksander shakes up her world and tilts her in more ways than one.
HE’S IN DANGEROUS TERRITORY.
Years of warfare and countless bedroom encounters have stolen Kempor Aleksander’s luster for life. He never expects to rediscover his zeal in the small, redheaded form of Ella the Troll, who fires his blood hotter than the deepest caverns in the forest.
A PASSION SO HOT.
But as trouble lingers in their midst—and edges ever closer—Alek and Ella spiral into troubled terrain. Turning to each other, the pair face down dangers that run impenetrably deep in their mythological world. But will the two lovers discover a passion that runs even deeper?
   What's your attraction to romance?

Meet Pennelope:
In my latest novel release (oooh, love that word!), I have a certain Troll who makes life agonizingly rough for everyone. She’s hard to hate—you want to love her—but her webs of deception weave tragic results.

Excerpt:
From his vantage point on the hillside above the family nest, Eli propped a heel behind him and leaned back. The rock digging into his butt was hard and unforgiving; it matched the disposition of the older female Troll beside him.
Her slender white neck curved as she used the glowing cherry of her herbal smoke to draw tracers in the dark around the Centaur guard in the distance. “Who’s that with Kempor Aleksander?”
“My sister, Ella.”
“Why is she with him?”
“Good question.” Eli stared with gritted teeth through the cover of trees at the embracing couple. “She’s making a huge mistake.”
“How long have they been dating?” Elegant fingers brought the cigarette to her lips, and she pulled a slow drag. Multiple bracelets slid down her arm and jangled softly together.
“I think they just met. Ella opened the new speed-dating service, and the Kempor was in it tonight—like he of all mythics would need it.”
“Hmm, interesting.” Smoke blew in an easy stream from her pursed lips, catching the cool night breeze that, in turn, drifted across his face.
Protected under the trees from the drizzle, they watched the playboy hit on his sister. Ella didn’t seem to mind.
Upwind, the entwined couple had no idea their actions were observed.
“Is it true he avoids relationships like he would the trots?” Eli asked.
Two fingers held the hand rolled cigarette, as her lips tightened around it. She drew on the end, let the smoke linger in her mouth a moment, then inhaled. Air currents caressed the cigarette’s tip and caused the ember to glow between drags. “In all the years I’ve known him, he only had one serious affair. And that one dumped him for something better.”
Eli pushed away from the boulder, away from scents of burning clove, and peered down at his family’s rock. His mother stood out front, shouting for Ella. Gods, how embarrassing. Glancing up the opposite hillside, he saw Kempor Aleksander drop his cupped hands from Ella’s face.
Soft footsteps drew next to Eli. His companion’s fingernails lightly scratched his back, bangles dancing musically. “Don’t worry about her. If there’s one thing I know, Aleksander won’t stick around for long.” The hair at his collar received the same massage treatment. “Come over here, Eli. I want to talk business before I leave.”
He followed his contact back to the rock and watched her fluff out the skirt beneath a belt that defined her small waist. He crossed his arms, widened his stance, then waited for her to continue.
“There’s chatter in Boronda of rebel movement. Heard any of it?”
“The Minotaur I befriended hinted a few things tonight. He would’ve said more if things hadn’t gone south.”
Bracelets sliding in a musical clatter, she clamped the short smoke between her lips. Her hands became busy, pulling a small silver case from the voluminous folds of her skirt, and she spoke around the cigarette, “What happened?”
“Phranq took an interest in Ella at the café. When we left, he bull-handled her and the Kempor took exception to that. We had to leave before they got into it.”
“Damn.”
Her pointed Troll ears twitched with the sounds of the night. Nobody knew how old his contact was, but Eli guessed at least three centuries. If she were older than that, she held her age well.
He waited while she removed a fresh cigarette.
She lit the end with the red tip of the old, and tossed the used butt into a puddle. Taking a drag, she turned to him and asked, “Carryyn couldn’t distract Alek?”
“No. He didn’t want anything to do with her.” Hell, Eli couldn’t blame the man. Even hard up, few would get it on with a Minotaur—not to say he hadn’t before.

Movement in the shadows across the stream caught his sharp Troll eyes. The Kempor watched Ella make her way down the foot trail until she dissolved beneath their granite rock. What in the hell did she have in those bags she carried everywhere?
Between the trees in the dim moonlight, the guard weaved his way along the trail, headed toward the palace. His huge muscular torso twisted between the towering elms, making room for the breadth of his shoulders to pass, before his hind end disappeared from view.
Standing next to Eli, his underground contact stared at the black space where the Kempor had stood moments before. The cigarette between her fingers, seemingly forgotten, the dangling ash long. Wisps of reddish hair framed her oval face. Her inscrutable expression was unnerving.
Eli touched her shoulder. “Are you alright?”
A melancholy frown flitted across her features. Then, she smiled, smoothly betraying nothing of her inner thoughts. “I’ll meet you again, in two days at the regular appointed time.”
He nodded and leaned back on the rock. “May I have your name? Something to call you by?”
She lifted her hand to tousle her damp curls, and another flutter of bouncing bracelets erupted. “Yes, now that I know you’re trustworthy. Call me…Pennelope.”
“Be careful out there, Pennelope.”
She rewarded him with a slow, secret smile. One, he wouldn’t claim to understand.
“I always am.”

Dreaming of Friday Flames

I'm happy to introduce you to a paranormal author who writes with romantic elements. He's a fellow Paranormal Romance Guild member and all-around great guy.

After you read this contribution, please feel free to comment with your own! Don't forget buy links so we can all rush out and buy your book!

Please welcome James DiBenedetto to The Flames!

E xcerpt (from “Dream Family”):
I’m standing completely still and he reaches down, puts his hands on my waist, takes hold of my panties.  He stays like that for a moment, watching me for a reaction.  I smile, and I say just one word: “Please.”  His hands are welcome there – he can touch me anyplace, anytime.  He pulls my panties down, and they fall around my ankles.  I step out of them, and I’m naked.  Completely exposed.  Exactly the way I want - need - to be.
I do the same for him.  I do it so slowly, stretching it out, the same way I always linger over unwrapping the last present under the Christmas tree.  First his shirt, one button at a time, pausing after each one, kissing every inch of his chest as it’s uncovered.  Then his pants; I carefully, deliberately unbuckle his belt, unbutton them at the waist, and with a hand that’s not trembling at all, I pull down the zipper.  He lets the pants fall down, and I turn my attention to his boxers.  I tug them down, a bit at a time, until, finally, all is revealed. Now he’s naked and exposed, and he takes one step back.  We stand there, maybe two feet apart, and for – I don’t know how long – we just look at each other, up and down, as though it’s the first time we’ve ever seen each other this way.
Everything about him is beautiful, from those browny-brown eyes, to his smiling mouth and strong chin, to those wonderful new muscles he’s been working on, to – to everything, all the way down.  I could look at him like this forever.
I go back up, taking all the time in the world, inch by inch, drinking in every detail, until I’m staring into his eyes, lost in them.  No, not lost.  I see myself reflected in them.  And in that reflection, I see all the beauty he sees in me.  He’s always seen that, and I know he always will.
We reach out to each other, and a moment later we’re on the bed, our hands all over each other – but, again, moving slowly, gently, teasingly.  We’re exploring every inch of each other.  Just like the way he undressed me, this is how it was that first night - except his hands are sure instead of tentative, and I know the body I’m exploring every bit as well as my own.
Back then, that first time, and in the first few months afterwards, we were still learning each other.  I had to watch his eyes to know when he was losing himself, when conscious thought disappeared and unconscious desire was all that remained.  But now I can sense it as easily as I can feel it in myself.  I can take him to the very edge of that moment, and then bring him back.  A hand caressing his thigh, a kiss on his chin, a whisper in his ear; I know exactly how to touch him.
And – God, the way his hands, his lips, feel on my skin! – he knows my body just as well.  He can – he is! - doing the same to me.
We take each other back and forth, over and over, dancing right up to that point and pulling back, until every nerve in both our bodies is screaming.  I don’t know how long we go on like that, before we look into each other’s eyes and we both know the moment has arrived.
He rolls onto his back, and I’m on top of him.  He doesn’t flinch at my weight pressing down on him; neither of us have any attention or thought to spare as we go over the edge together.
After that there’s only sensation, only pleasure, his and mine, and a shout from my throat – no, from the very core of me - that rattles the windows and echoes through the bedroom as we completely lose ourselves in each other…

Friday Flames is Finding Flight!

Welcome to another edition of Friday Flames, where scorching scenes are all aflame!

I invite writers to choose a steamy excerpt from their books or works in progress, and share them.
I dare readers to sit with an icy-cold drink at hand and enjoy the many posts.

Today I welcome Heather M. Sharpe to the Friday Flames stage. I met Heather a few years ago when the rough-draft of Remedy Maker evolved. Having much in common, we instantly hit it off.

Take it away, Heather!

Can her gift help her find an everlasting love?

Blurb: As an Enforcer for a secret society of shapeshifters, Ledger Arneau is offered a chance to retrieve his wayward brother before The Council puts out a warrant for his arrest. When the trail goes cold, he is willing to try anything to pick it up again, even if it means bringing in an outsider.
Corinne Winters is able to find any missing object, except her own, by concentrating on it. She’s always dreamed of using her skills to help locate missing people. After an embarrassing setback with the local police department, she jumps on the opportunity to use her skills to help Ledger.

Corinne finds a love she didn't know she was looking for with Ledger, and discovers a new depth to her talent when they are together. When her new love and his brother disappear back into the secret society, Corinne must stretch her talent beyond anything she ever imagined to bring them home. Unaware of the circumstances surrounding Ledger’s disappearance, Corinne races across the country on his trail. When she finally locates the brothers, she witnesses the unbelievable, and flees in terror. In order to claim the love of her life, she must find a way to accept him and his secret.

Excerpt:
“Please,” she whispered, bringing one leg up to hold him tighter to her and arching her back to brush her lips against his. He held himself firm against her until she tentatively touched her tongue to the softness of his lips. Then, it was as if a dam opened, and he crushed her to him. He released her wrists so his hands were free to roam, his lips melded tightly against hers.
Ledger softened the kiss enough to nip and tease her lips while one hand skimmed down her side to the hem of her shirt. His fingers danced there where her shirt had risen slightly, exposing a small strip of bare skin. Corinne wriggled beneath him, trying to deepen their kiss and encourage his fingers’ maddening caress to explore further.
She felt his lips curve into a smile. “Impatient?”
She growled and took control of their kiss, refusing to let him back away and return to the light teasing of before. His fingers continued their dance against her side, brushing just below the waistband of her pants and under the hem of her top, but no farther. She arched her back, relieving the ache in her breasts somewhat by brushing them against his firm chest. Finally she felt the warmth of Ledger’s palm against the skin at her waist as his hand slid beneath her shirt and up to caress her breast. A tingling fire spread from the warmth of his grasp to the rest of her body.
Determined to feel more of the glorious warmth, Corinne gripped the hem of his shirt and tugged until it caught at his shoulders. She whimpered in indecision. She didn’t want him to move his hands or lips now that they were finally where she wanted them, but she needed to feel more of his skin against hers. With one final tug, she decided that her hands could wander freely enough with his shirt bunched around his shoulders. That decided, she let her hands roam across the tight muscles in his back and shoulders. What was it about tracing those flat planes that could make her insides melt?

In case the house isn’t full enough, it also includes four noisy dogs, one cat who inspired For the love of a Sphynx, another who torments him, and a lizard.  At night, all of them think they need room on the bed (except the lizard, thankfully).
Up until the birth of her son, Heather taught elementary school.  Now she chases around her toddler and writes whenever he naps long enough to turn on the laptop.  When not writing or chasing the baby, Heather enjoys hanging at the lake, waking up early to tear up the water on the wakeboard or wakesurf board, and making s’mores.

Friday Flames! Heating up the kitchen.

HELLO FRIDAY FLAMERS!
I love sharing the work of others! And as you know, here on  THE FLAMES , the steamier, the better.
Be sure to share your own HOT scene and include the links to find you.
To ignite the fire, please welcome Christine Warner as she starts us off by heating things up!

Christine and I have known each other for a few years now. Her career is taking off and  exciting times are rolling in -- I'm so excited for her!

Take it away, Christine!

What should a woman do when sparks fly in the kitchen?  Ignite the fire!  Especially if it's a man as sexy as businessman Chet Castle creating the friction. :)

A bit about Bachelor's Special
Jill Adgate wants three things from life: a successful catering business, a family, and the love of an exceptional man. What she has is no job, a mounting pile of bills, and her outspoken best friend—who sets her up on a blind date with the man who inadvertently ruined Jill’s life.
Chet Castle is a businessman who has everything, except the ability to trust. Burned by a money-hungry fiancée, he refuses to get involved in any relationship that has a shelf life longer than a head of lettuce.
Intrigued by her ambition—and determined to get her in bed—Chet offers Jill the chance of a lifetime: work as his live-in chef and he’ll help her get her catering business off the ground. When sparks fly in the kitchen, Jill realizes what’s cooking is a recipe for disaster…
The excerpt I’m sharing has a little taste from both Jill and Chet’s perspective. ENJOY!
EXCERPT:
Her body hummed as his smile wavered. Although he wore sunglasses, she’d bet her last dollar his gaze swept across her chest, lingering on the betrayal of her pert nipples pushing against the fabric of her suit.
Until this moment, shyness had never been a trait she possessed. Air stalled in her lungs, her palms grew sweaty, and she itched to cover herself with a towel. Even though her replica vintage swimsuit hid more than most sets of women’s underwear, she felt too exposed. She turned to the side slightly and folded her legs up. Not that it helped, but it made her feel a bit less exposed.
Chet slid his feet from his sandals, brushing a hand through his hair. The heat from the sun wasn’t the only thing scorching her skin. She trickled several droplets of water over her arms, but she couldn’t drag her focus from his toned flesh.
Jill soaked in his ripped abs and the obvious package of goodies covered by his brown swimsuit—the same sexy brown as his hair. Damn, did a man have a right to fill out a pair of swimming trunks like that? Flecks of hair, just enough to give him a manlyappeal, covered the etched muscles of his long, tan legs.
She licked her lips, hoping she could still speak. “Do you want some privacy?” Yes, say yes. She needed an excuse to make an escape without coming off like someone desperate to be making an exit.

Hell no, he didn’t want privacy. Through the shield of his sunglasses, he inspected her body from the tips of her pink-painted toenails to the top of her brightly flowered swimming cap. Did people still actually wear those things? “No, you look comfortable. Stay and enjoy the day.”
“Oh…are you sure?”
“Sure.”
Amazed at his own ability to talk without his tongue hitting the cement, Chet turned to throw his towel and sunglasses on a nearby lounge chair. Damn.
The red and white polka-dot halter-style suit featured a tight bodice, but her slender hips and shapely thighs hiding beneath a matching skirt grabbed his attention until all oxygen left his blood. Even showing less skin than the average girl on the beach, she far xceeded sexy and alluring.
Get a grip, Castle. She’s off limits, no matter how delectable.
He turned and stepped onto the diving board. He bounced along the surface as he made his way over the water. When he looked at Jill’s bathing cap covering her head, he held back his grin. The neon rubber flowers reminded him of something his grandmother would’ve worn, but there the similarity ended. Everything beneath that cap was far from making him think of Grandma.
