Look at the entire canon of modern art in America: It’s paltry. It’s based on reputation, not merit. It’s based on savvy marketers, promoters, and agents, not on talent or spiritual worth. Not that what I write is some great artistic endeavor, but at least it’s mine, and at least it gives people something, if only entertainment. I’m sorry, but a canvas painted green is not art, any way you slice it. It’s idiotic, and it if it stands for anything it would be how stupid the current intelligent...

There grew around the modernists a class of critics and impresarios, therefore, who offered to explain just why it is not a waste of your time to stare at a pile of bricks, to sit quietly through 10 minutes of excruciating noise, or to study a crucifix pickled in urine…...
