Liz Cain is an urban fantasy writer and NHS frontline staff.She was born in East Yorkshire in the UK and grew up near the sea with herparents and two sisters. She moved to the midlands, which was much too farsouth for her, graduating from Leicester University with a degree in Physicsand going on to complete an MSc in Medical and Radiation Physics. She hasworked in the NHS since 2008 as a Nuclear Medicine Clinical Scientist, helpingwith cancer treatment and diagnosis.
She has traveled at every opportunity from Thailand andAustralia to touring national parks in North America. Liz has done lots ofcrazy things for charity, including skydiving, running, swimming, and evencutting off her hair. While out on adventures she finds herself weavingintricate tales in her head which one day she had to write down.
Liz has loved reading her whole life, growing up with AnneMcCaffrey, Mary Stewart, and Terry Goodkind. Becoming an author happened bychance when she jumped at the opportunity to help a friend tell a story thatdeserved to be told. It inspired her to follow her lifelong dream and now shehas published books with her coauthor Anne K. Whelan in the fantasy romance andparanormal romance genre, finally taking that last step and publishing byherself in 2023.

Det var mørkt inne på kjøkkenet. Kun en blek stripe måneskinn kom gjennom det store glassvinduet, som i dagslys skuet over en temmelig platt bakgård og en intetsigende hage i en like intetsigende gate. Dette var ikke et spesielt romslig kjøkken, for boligen var nemlig usedvanlig trang for et menneske, og nå var han jo heller ikke den eneste skapningen som holdt til der. Til tross for at han på typisk menneskelig vis regnet med at han selv var sentrum av begivenhetene, så tok han feil der. Mennesket var overbevist om at han var herre over egen husholdning, og også der tok han feil.
De andre skapningene som bodde i huset lyttet en stund og spisset de hårete ørene ved den minste lyd, mens de utstikkende røde øynene fulgte med i mørket. Det var stille foruten dryppingen fra en lekk kran og den myke pipingen fra en av kjøkkenets musete beboere. Ikthik, den modigste av de små vesenene, dyttet borti en saltskål som stod lagelig til på en hylle; saltskålen var en god del høyere enn den lille skapningen, som for sikkerhets skyld den et hardt spark. Saltskåla ga etter slik at den nå balanserte på kanten av trehylla over vasken. Smådjevelen gliste så de skarpe, brune tennene kom til syne i et rundt, men temmelig smadret ansikt; det pæreformede hodet var prydet av en lue laget av vaskefiller, som ifølge beboeren stadig vekk forsvant av uforklarlige grunner. Det blå og hvite rutemønsteret ble reflektert på merkelig vis i den skinnende sølvskåla i det månestrålene traff. Han sparket til saltskåla på nytt, og hoppet av glede da den ramlet over kanten og salt regnet på veien ned mot gulvet.
«Varsko her!» ropte en stemme så lys at den var bortenfor høreevnen til kjøkkenets eier, men slett ikke for de små skapningene som løp forbi musefellen bak kjøleskapet som om den ikke var der. Hver dag var osten borte, men ingen små musekropper lå tilbake. Smådjevlene og deres pipende venner hadde kommet til en forståelse – ost var et helt kurant byttemiddel mot transport. Og den største musa stod klar, med seletøy av fyrstikker og tråd rundt skuldrene og vogna med knappehjul bak.
Ikthik tvinnet restene av en ansiktsklut rundt de fremoversunke skuldrene — nok en stjålet gjenstand. Kluten, som var prydet av en smilende, gul and, var av den typen et menneskebarn kan finne på å eie, eller muligens en voksen med en besettelse for ender. Klesplagget kledde overhodet ikke smådjevelen, men han bar det likefullt med den største stolthet. Det markerte ham nemlig som leder, som høvding for den lille gruppen og som rytter av musevogna.
