Poetry Challenge—Introducing the Englyn: Form 2—the Englyn Milwr
An englyn is a form of Welsh or Cornish verse, with a reputation of being hard to master. It has several different variants, all of which are governed by strict rules. This week, we’ll look at the englyn milwr. The englyn milwr consists of a three-line verse. Each line is seven-syllables long, and all lines rhyme. The englyn milwr is also known as the soldier’s englyn.I thought I’d try a slightly longer englyn, made of verses that followed the rules above. I don’t think that’s against the rules…
The Soldier’s Path
The soldier marched a long wayfrom his home, where heart held swayAs he marched his thoughts did stray
He missed working in the fieldmissed his wife, the kiss she’d yieldmissed her pies, the apples peeled
When the war was done and goneThe soldier marched each step homeFor his wife was still the one
Why don’t you give it a try? Try writing at least one englyn milwr for each day of the week. You can find out more about how to write englyns from the following sites:http://www.volecentral.co.uk/vf/englyn.htmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Englynhttp://www.poetrysoup.com/poems/englynhttp://www.poetrysoup.com/dictionary/englynhttp://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/188329/englynhttp://blogs.warwick.ac.uk/zoebrigley/entry/the_measures_of_1/http://dversepoets.com/2012/10/11/formforall-englyn/http://www.oocities.org/sca_bard/childrensenglynmilwr.htmlhttp://www.oocities.org/sca_bard/chil...

Just Released: C.M. Simpson: Short Stories and Poetry from 2013 - The Year Just Gone
The second volume of my annual collection of short work from the previous year is now available. This year I had enough work for two volumes and it spans the range from speculative to fantasy to science fiction to horror to urban fantasy and paranormal fantasy through a variety of poetry, flash and short fiction. Sometimes, I wonder where it all comes from; mostly, I just enjoy the ride.
Last year’s anthology consisted only of the short stories and poems published in 2012. This year’s anthology consists of all the short stories and poems that I created, edited or rewrote in 2013, regardless of whether or not they have been released. The tales are taken from completed anthologies, and anthologies yet to come, from my blog, and from my notebooks. Most are published as stand-alone stories, but some are yet to be published.
This year’s anthology is two volumes long. I have divided them up chronologically, according to when the stories were first created and completed. This is the second volume, and it covers work completed or released in 2013. It consists of a mix of poetry, flash fiction and short fiction, ranging in genre from horror to fantasy to science fiction and urban fantasy.
Pixies, unicorns, vampires, star ships, hunters, psi and sheer speculation of the what ifs, what might have been, and what might still be romp through the pages. Come and walk through the landscapes of my mind.
Both volumes are currently available from Smashwords in the major formats, but they will soon be available from Kindle, DriveThruFiction, OmniLit and in print-on-demand via CreateSpace.

Books Read in June 2014
So, June was university holidays, so there was a little bit more time for everything, including reading. I'm still reading through my Laurell K. Hamilton collection. Laurell K. Hamilton is a mistress of dark paranormal urban fantasy, another genre I enjoy reading. Here's what I read this month.

Australian Spiders: Leaf-Curl Spider (Phonognatha graeffei) playing coy
I see them when the weather warms, and then they go away again. Autumn was when this shot was taken, and now it's winter and they are gone. I will celebrate them again in spring when they re-emerge from wherever it is they have gone.

Blogs Read in June 2014: First Foray - Mostly on Independent Publishing and Industry Argy Bargy
Hey all
So, last month was a bit of a downer for blogs being read - something to do with exams and assessments for uni taking precedence... who'da thought? And I had to prioritise writing over blogging. So, with the university break, I got to writing a few blogs, and catching up on the back-log of bloggery I wanted to read. My first foray was sparked by an article on the Amazon vs Hachette debate, and rambled into legalities and author earnings. The reading below took an hour and a half, which is probably enough time to spend in one day. So, if you're a writer, or a reader, or curious about any of the below topics, go click on the linkery and see what you can discover. Be aware that there are mixed views present and not all reflect my own opinion. I read to keep informed and then make up my own mind. I encourage you to do the same.

Poetry Challenge—Introducing the Englyn: Form 1—the Englyn Penfyr
An englyn is a form of Welsh or Cornish verse, with a reputation of being hard to master. It has several different variants, all of which are governed by strict rules. This week, we’ll look at the englyn penfyr.
The englyn penfyr consists of a three-line verse. The first line has 10 syllables, the second has 7, and the third has 7. The rhyme is introduced in the seventh, eighth or ninth syllable of the first line, and repeated at the end of the next two lines. The fourth syllable of the second lines uses rhyme or consonance to echo the last syllable of the first line.
