Representation and Black Friday Sale
I am pleased and excited to announce that I was recently approached by Mark Gottlieb of Trident Media Group (TMG), enquiring about my interest in representation in major trade publishing.
TMG is one of the world's leading literary agencies, representing over 800 bestselling and emerging authors. According to TMG's website, TMG ranks first in North American sales and represents many bestselling authors, including romance authors you know and love such as Sylvia Day, M. Leighton, and Maya Banks. For paranormal romance lovers, TMG represents Larissa Ione and Sherrilyn Kenyon!
You can imagine how excited I was to hear from Mark and of course I said yes! I feel honored to be represented by Mark and this very well-known and established literary agency. Although I enjoy self-publishing eBooks through Amazon's KDP program, representation through an established literary agency like TMG and an agent like Mark Gottlieb is the only way my books might see the inside of a bookstore and so I was very happy to sign the contract!
Mark is a new agent at TMG, although he has years of experience in publishing and has been responsible for negotiating foreign and audio rights as well as managing social media for the TMG agency. He has a real passion for developing authors, selling books and a strong commitment to the business, and I know he will do his best to sell my books to the major trade publishers.
I am so happy to be embarking on this journey with Mark!
To celebrate, I will be hosting a Black Friday Blowout sale, and will sell all my books (with the exception of Dominion, which can’t be put back on sale until December due to Amazon KDP terms) for just 99c. If you haven't bought my books yet, get them for just 99c, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tell your friends, share and tweet about it and I will select three lucky people at random to win their choice of one of my books for free!
All you have to do is share my post, tweet about the sale or post it on social media and link to the share in the comments to this post and you will have a chance to win. Winners will be announced next week once the sale is over.
Enter soon and enter often!

The Commitment -- Released in 12 hours!
The Commitment, the sequel to The Agreement, will be released on Amazon within 12 hours!
The Blurb:
Despite the carefully-worded agreement meant to keep their relationship strictly professional while Kate explored BDSM for an article in her college's newspaper, Drake and Kate broke their own rules and fell in love.
Now, in the weeks before they leave for Africa, Drake takes Kate more deeply into the D/s lifestyle. In the process, the walls between them continue to crumble as they explore each other physically and emotionally and they fall even more deeply in love. But before they can leave Manhattan, the past returns unexpectedly to challenge their blossoming relationship.
Is Kate and Drake's commitment to each other strong enough to stand the test?
By the Amazon Bestselling Romance author S. E. Lund, The Commitment is the much-anticipated sequel to The Agreement, Book 1 of the Unrestrained Series.
What readers are saying about The Agreement:

On BDSM in Fiction -- An Author's Responsibility
Comment by _______
I totally agree with you. One of the biggest things that bugged me about Dominion was how Lund called a controlling vamp a vamp into bdsm. I saw nothing reminiscent of bdsm in book 1
It worries me that all these books that are trying to cash in on the FSoG phenom are going to do more damage than good. I am not worried too much about the "mature" readership but I have heard these books are in libraries and easily available for purchase to those who are too impressionable to realize this is fiction..and RL is a completely different thing.
Maybe, as the author of Dominion,
I can respond to ____'s concerns, but as it may be uncomfortable for some having the author on a thread being critical of her work, I will take my comments over to my blog, which you can read and respond to here. I don't want to be argumentative, but I did want to clarify my own intentions re the series an the elements of dominance and submission contained in it.
As a preface, I've read a lot about BDSM over the years, both as an academic who studied sexuality in uni, including a graduate class which looked specifically at BDSM and as a person, having a personal interest in it, and having known several Doms and subs online and in RL (although not a practitioner myself). I am not an expert, but am familiar with many of the practices and views of people in the lifestyle towards what is proper and safe when it comes to RL BDSM.
The analyst in me agrees that books that feature BDSM as a main component of the story should be as accurate in their portrayal of the lifestyle as possible -- within the limits and requirements of good storytelling. However, there has to be a happy medium between accuracy and the needs of fiction and genre. If every single book that included BDSM elements went over the proper procedures and warnings, how boring would it be for readers of that genre? You would end up skimming so much because it's all familiar ground.
I think a writer's first responsibility is to the story and characters. A novel is not a public service announcement for safety in any way. Writers do not feel obliged to go over the dangers and proper procedures of say, bungee jumping, skydiving, deep sea diving, boxing, and other dangerous sports when they are included in novels to ensure that the hapless novice doesn't harm themselves or get the wrong idea about the dangers of these pastimes. Crime novels that refer to DNA analysis do not cover all the proper techniques, nor do readers want to read them. The only responsibility of a writer, IMO, is to the story and characters, to ensure that their portrayal of RL is as accurate as necessary and in serving the needs of story and character.
I don't think it is really fair to expect writers who include BDSM elements in a novel to be responsible for educating the reading public about its dangers and safe practices.
Yes, people may get the wrong idea about BDSM if it is not portrayed accurately in fiction but there is also no one unified BDSM community or practice, only those that perhaps a majority of practitioners, agree to at any particular time in history. Ideas change and evolve. There are unsafe Doms and subs doing things that many might disagree with, not taking proper precautions, etc. People may blunder into relationships and be unsafe, but a writer of fiction can't be held responsible for them. JMO.
Finally, in defense of my own books, the dominance and submission elements in the Dominion series are not portrayed as part of any organized lifestyle community. They are portrayed as arising from the natural powers vampires have over mortals and the inevitable power imbalance between the two groups that results - principally due to a vampire's superior physical power and power of compulsion. Vampires can obtain submission from humans using their powers of compulsion. This is the natural order of things. Not having this power over Eve, Michel struggles with how he can ensure she complies with his plans for the war and performs as a proper slave when she is with him as his Adept - which is expected in the vampire world. He believes he needs her submission as a subordinate in the military campaign and as his Adept, but he wants her as his sexual submissive for personal reasons.
Do I think for one moment that an 800 YO vampire would feel beholden to some mortal BDSM community and its views on what is proper practice and safe? No. He would feel that he knows more about vampire / human relations and how they should be conducted and about domination and submission and how such a relationship should be established and progress. That is true to his character as an 800 YO vampire hunting vampire soldier in a war between humans and vampires.
Part of what I wanted to explore in this series was precisely how being 800YO would affect a vampire's interactions with mortals. Michel has his own ideas about how to do things. He has 800 years of experience and knowledge, is medieval at heart rather than modern, and doesn't feel as if he's beholden to anyone else's ideas about how he should relate to anyone ETA: except God and he even transgresses that! He says to Eve that this is about life and death and the war.
This may make you dislike Michel. That's perfectly legitimate. He does a lot of questionable things in the books and some dislike of him is deserved. In his defence, Michel intended to follow what might be considered a more established practice for establishing a D/s relationship with Eve, but circumstances and his own weakness intervene. He starts to follow a more standard script for a Dom dealing with a novice sub in Book 3, but even so, he is constrained by time and circumstance.
Anyway, just popping by to add my 2c worth as the author. Not that mine has any more weight than a reader but I did want to discuss my own intentions for the book. A writer always has an intention for her book, but whether she achieves it is a whole other question!
