What's my current project?

Not many of you are aware that I've had a pretty crazy year. Leading up to and after the birth of my first child, I was working on the manuscripts for Dark Deceit and Dark Desire for my publisher, Momentum. I was even working while still at the hospital recovering from a C-section. In the weeks that followed, I was churning out guest posts for the release of both titles (only a couple of months separating them) as well as going through copy edits and the proofreading process for both titles. I also had to get a handle on breastfeeding, getting very little sleep and learning how to be a mum.

To say that it was stressful was an understatement.

And now a year has gone by. And in that year I've written Dark Devotion - book three in the Dark Series - completed re-edits for Half Blood, Half Truths and Half Life and written another book in a completely different genre. I've also had people asking when the fifth book in the Helheim series will be done.

As you can see, I've been pretty busy.

I need a break. I'm not an inexhaustible machine that can churn out books every few weeks or months. For the six months preceding the release of Dark Devotion, I'll be gearing down and pulling back from my 'authoring duties'.

I'll be taking some time for my self, to enjoy reading a book that I don't have to edit or proofread, to play with my daughter without feeling guilty that I have to write instead.

 So, what's my current project?

Relaxing.
Disconnecting.
Recharging my creative batteries.

The Dark Series has taken it out of me creatively. I need to decompress and farewell my characters, and make some room in my life for new ideas and new characters that need their story told. Yes, Omega will be written, but it won't be ready until later 2016. I'm sorry, you're just going to have to wait a little longer. If you'd like to be kept in the loop, you can sign up for my newsletter on my website, or click 'follow' on my Amazon profile to make sure you know when a new title is released.

I thank you for your continued support, and I hope that you keep coming back to my blog. I will be posting reviews as I finish books in my huge TBR pile as well as featuring some book releases.

New release: "More than Friends" by Brandi Kennedy

Michael Kingsley is a broken man. How could he not be, when the wife he thought he’d love forever, the one he thought would love him forever, just picked up and left him with no explanation?

It took him a while, but he’s finally putting his life back together. He’s doing his job, he’s paying his bills – he’s even getting back into his old hobbies. He’s finally doing alright again … mostly. And maybe he does drink too much, but at least he’s finally stopped sleeping around. Now he’s settled on one woman, a curvaceous and flirtatious bartender who never misses an opportunity to warm his bed.

But when Michael’s mother ends up in the hospital, it’s his best friend Renee who stays by his side, and he begins to see her in a whole new way. When they take a step beyond the boundaries of friendship that cannot be undone, what will happen to their relationship?

Will they find something more, something neither of them even realized was there? Or will the fear of changing – and maybe losing – their friendship, be the thing that ends it all?

Introduce yourself to Michael and the rest of the Kingsley family today; books 1-4 are available wherever books are sold. For direct purchase links to each book on each of the various markets, please see the Kingsley Series page.

Title re-release: "Wrestling Harmony" by Brandi Kennedy

The Kingsley Series is a series of stand-alone contemporary women’s fiction romance novels, each connected to the next by the bonds of family. Each book in this series follows the personal journey of one of the Kingsley couples – however, each story is continued and updated in the following book. These books can be read in any order, but are best enjoyed in order of publication. This series contains mild sexual content.

Wrestling Harmony is the third book in the series:

Harmony Kingsley is a failure. All her life, she has worked toward one goal – to compete on the Olympic gymnastics team. But she didn’t make it in time, and now younger competitors are edging her out of the sport. Now she’s just a trainer, and to add insult to injury, she’s not training competitors – she’s training kids. And even though she loves the kids, she hates the loss of her dream.

A misunderstanding sets her at odds with the uncle of one of her students, but under the angry tension is a tension of another kind.

Xander has been on his own for a while, and he’s built a good life for himself. He’s got a nice house, a good job, everything a young man could want … except love. But when Harmony’s best friend can see what Harmony and Xander can’t, and she contrives to push them together, what kind of sparks will fly? Will Harmony and Xander find something deeper than the fires of passion, or will her trust issues cause them to crash and burn?

My Top 10...Urban Fantasy Series

Recently, I was at Oz Comic Con and I love going to those things because I get to meet some awesome people, fans and urban fantasy enthusiasts. One of my top questions is "Who is your favourite author/favourite series?" and I get a lot of different answers.
So, I thought I'd share my favourite series with you all...
10. Jennifer Rardin's Jaz Parks series
I'm Jaz Parks. My boss is Vayl, born in Romania in 1744. Died there too, at the hand of his vampire wife, Liliana. But that's ancient history. For the moment Vayl works for the C.I.A. doing what he does best--assassination. And I help. You could say I'm an Assistant Assassin. But then I'd have to kick your ass.

Our current assignment seemed easy. Get close to a Miami plastic surgeon named Assan, a charmer with ties to terrorism that run deeper than a buried body. Find out what he's meeting with that can help him and his comrades bring America to her knees. And then close his beady little eyes forever. Why is it that nothing's ever as easy as it seems?

9. Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series.
Anita Blake may be small and young, but vampires call her the Executioner. Anita is a necromancer and vampire hunter in a time when vampires are protected by law--as long as they don't get too nasty. Now someone's killing innocent vampires and Anita agrees--with a bit of vampiric arm-twisting--to help figure out who and why.

Trust is a luxury Anita can't afford when her allies aren't human. The city's most powerful vampire, Nikolaos, is 1,000 years old and looks like a 10-year-old girl. The second most powerful vampire, Jean-Claude, is interested in more than just Anita's professional talents, but the feisty necromancer isn't playing along--yet. This popular series has a wild energy and humor, and some very appealing characters--both dead and alive.

8. Larissa Ione's Lords of Deliverance Series

They're here.

They ride.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Born of a match between good and evil, four siblings stand between hell's minions and everything they want to destroy. They are the Lords of Deliverance, and they have the power to ward off Doomsday . . . or let it ride .

Jillian Cardiff came to this remote mountain town to forget the demon attack that almost killed her. Instead, she rescues-and falls for-a gorgeous stranger who has no memory of anything other than his name. Handsome, charming, and protective, Reseph seems like the kind of man whom Jillian can trust. But with hints of a troubling history of his own, he's also the kind of man who can be very dangerous . . .

Reseph may not know why he mysteriously appeared in Jillian's life, but he knows he wants to stay. Yet when Jillian's neighbors are killed, and demon hunters arrive on the scene, Reseph fears that he's putting Jillian in danger. And once it's revealed that Reseph is also Pestilence, the Horseman responsible for ravaging the world, he and Jillian must face the greatest challenge of all: Can they forget the horrors of a chilling past to save the future they both desire?

7. Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson Series

Mercy Thompson's life is not exactly normal. Her next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she's fixing a VW bus for a vampire. But then, Mercy isn't exactly normal herself.

6. Larissa Ione's Demonica Series
Tayla Mancuso is a demon-slayer who hungers for sensual pleasure - but fears it will always be denied her. Until she lands in a hospital run by demons in disguise, and the head doctor, Eidolon, makes her body burn with unshakable desire. But to prove her ultimate loyalty to her peers, she must betray the surgeon who saved her life.

Eidolon cannot resist this fiery, dangerous woman who fills him with both rage and passion. Not only is she his enemy, but she could very well be the hunter who has been preying upon his people. Torn between his need for the truth and his quest to find his perfect mate before a horrific transformation claims him forever, Eidolon will dare the unthinkable - and let Tayla possess him, body and soul . . .

5. Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld Series

All her life, Ashlyn Darrow has been tormented by voices from the past. To end the nightmare, she has come to Budapest seeking help from men rumored to have supernatural abilities, not knowing she'll be swept into the arms of Maddox, their most dangerous member—a man trapped in a hell of his own.

Neither can resist the instant hunger that calms their torments…and ignites an irresistible passion. But every heated touch and burning kiss will edge them closer to destruction—and a soul-shattering test of love….

4. Rachel Vincent's Unbound Series

Most can't touch the power, but Liv Warren is special. A paranormal tracker who follows the scent of blood, Liv makes her own rules and the most important one is trust no one.

When her friend's daughter goes missing, Liv has no choice but to find the young girl. And thanks to a childhood oath, she can't rest until the child is home safe. Except that means trusting Cam Caballero the former lover forbidden to her.

Bound by oath and lost in desire for a man she cannot have, Liv is racing to save the child from a dark criminal underworld where secrets, lies, trauma and danger lurk around every corner, every touch and every kiss...

But more blood will be spilled before it's over.

3. J.R.Ward's Fallen Angels Series

Redemption isn’t a word Jim Heron knows much about—his specialty is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charge with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins. And failure is not an option.

Vin DiPietro long ago sold his soul to his business, and he’s good with that—until fate intervenes in the form of a tough- talking, Harley-riding, self-professed savior. But then he meets a woman who will make him question his destiny, his sanity, and his heart—and he has to work with a fallen angel to win her over and redeem his own soul.

 2. Rachel Vincent's  Shifters Series

There are only eight breeding female werecats left.

And I'm one of them.

I look like an all-American grad student. But I am a werecat, a shape-shifter, and I live in two worlds.

Despite reservations from my family and my Pride, I escaped the pressure to continue my species and carved out a normal life for myself. Until the night a Stray attacked. I'd been warned about Strays- werecats without a Pride, constantly on the lookout for someone like me: attractive, female, and fertile. I fought him off, but then learned two of my fellow tabbies had disappeared.

This brush with danger was all my Pride needed to summon me back for my own protection. Yeah, right. But I'm no meek kitty. I'll take on whatever- and whoever- I have to in order to find my friends. Watch out, Strays- 'cause I got claws, and I'm not afraid to use them.

1. J.R.Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood Series

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There also exists a secret band of brothers like no other - six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Among them, none relishes killing their enemies more than Wrath, the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood...

The only pure-bred vampire left on the planet, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But when one of his most trusted fighters is killed - orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate - Wrath must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead...

Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn't there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her. But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens to consume them both...

~~~~~
So there you have it, my top ten urban fantasy reads. I've got some Kerri Arthur lined up, but would love to know who else I should investigate in the urban fantasy/paranormal romance realm. Leave me a comment below and I'll add the author/book to my TBR list!
Ever since the Supreme Court granted the undead equal rights, most people think vampires are just ordinary folks with fangs. I know better. I’ve seen their victims. I carry the scars…
But now a serial killer is murdering vampires—and the most powerful bloodsucker in town wants me to find the killer… “
“In a world where vampires, zombies and werewolves have been declared legal citizens of the United States, Anita Blake is an “animator” – a profession that involves raising the dead for mourning relatives. But Anita is also known as a fearsome hunter of criminal vampires, and she’s often employed to investigate cases that are far too much for conventional police. But as Anita gains the attention of the vampire masters of her hometown of St Louis, she also risks revealing an intriguing secret about herself – the source of her unusual strength and power.”
Title re-release: "Fat Chance" by Brandi Kennedy
The Kingsley Series is a series of stand-alone contemporary women’s fiction romance novels, each connected to the next by the bonds of family. Each book in this series follows the personal journey of one of the Kingsley couples – however, each story is continued and updated in the following book. These books can be read in any order, but are best enjoyed in order of publication. This series contains mild sexual content.
Fat Chance is the first book in the series...
Cassaundra Keaton is an outsider; still living with the after effects of the death of her family and a young adulthood spent in the foster system, Cass has been shuffled from one place to another nearly all her life. Add to that the loneliness of rejection and a heartbreakingly low sense of self-worth, and you have a woman who is broken and confused, depressed and debating the unthinkable.
Only her love for her adoptive family (and knowledge of their love for her) pulls her back from the brink, and she reaches out to the one person who can truly help her – her therapist. Mac shows Cass how to find her own sense of self-worth, and what he teaches her gives her the strength to turn things around.
And then ... there’s Drew. Drew Kingsley is a man with demons of his own, but a chance encounter brings them together in a way neither of them expected. When she breaks down again and pushes him away, will Drew have what it takes to help Cass see how beautiful she is? Or will a disaster for Drew in the line of duty mean that Cass is too late to take a chance on love?
