Camp NaNoWriMo 2017
[image error]We’re mere days away from Camp NaNoWriMo, which takes place during the month of April. Camp is a little different than the full-scale NaNoWriMo event in November. You can set personalized goals: work for a certain number of hours per day, add lines to your script or poem, revise pages from last fall’s novel, etc.
My cohort and collaborator Elza and I have each chosen projects and set up a cabin. If you’ve been thinking of taking part—and are looking for cabin mates—comment to let us know your Camp user name and we’ll issue an invite!

Show and Tell: Riced Potatoes
“Looks like a playdough toy.” Nobody in Prissie’s class had ever seen a potato ricer before, let alone eaten riced potatoes. Here’s a snapshot from the last time we prepared them.

Library Shelves
Found You! It’s always kind of special to go into the stacks at a library and find one of my own books shelved there.

Is the Threshold Series at your local library? What about the Pomeroy Family Legacy collection? Did you know that most library systems have a way to request certain titles be added to the collection? (Our city/county libraries have an online form.) Bring them in, then check them out!

ART: Angels All Around

One of the interior illustrations from Angels All Around, one of three free short stories that Zonderkidz published as companions to the Threshold Series. This vignette features Jedrick (his wings are green), Tycho (the archer who captains the Flight to which Ethan belongs … but that’s another story), and Lucan, one of the Guardians in the Pomeroy family’s formidable Hedge. Do you remember who’s under his watch-care?

Confession: I don’t have a cell phone
…but I do. Only I don’t. Not really.
Maybe I should explain.
As an author, I apparently need to be “out there,” being my quirky self in places where I can lure in followers. Which seems a trifle devious. Like I’m trapping readers. Or tripping them, since they’re supposed to stumble across me, my blog, and my books. As a reader, I get it. Deciding which book to read next is simpler if I trust an author. When their sense of story, their hopes, and their ideals echo mine, I’m more likely to love the stories they tell. And I can quickly get a sense for that from their blog posts, likes, and tweets.
Even as a “regular” person (and in my case a Bible study teacher & pastor’s wife), I’ve found that most of the folks I see regularly stay in touch through texts and social media. Which puts me and my stubborn streak (I don’t believe in cell phones!) squarely out of all the usual loops. So this year, I bought a … ahem … social media device, which looks shockingly similar to a phone. (Okay, yeah, it’s a phone, albeit unactivated.)
This has given me ready access to little things like apps and app-driven social media sites. For instance, I’ve set a goal to add a new picture to Instagram every day. As you can see, I’m just starting out…
