Mars sized Theia looms towards proto-Earth with which it will collide. (It is a glancing collision and the future Moon eventually forms


This is the aftermath of Earth's collision with the protoplanet Theia, and the Moon is being formed from the debris of the collision.


The Earth has now stabilised enough for life to spread. Here we have bacterial mats growing on the fringes of lakes and pools.
