Request a Signed Limited Edition Bookplate!

Bookplates are a time-honored part of the tradition of book collecting, and a favorite book with a bookplate signed by its author becomes an heirloom. I’ve always admired the bookplates designed by the noted illustrator and printmaker Rockwell Kent, who created more than 185 different bookplate designs between 1912 and 1968. Kent personalized these designs for his clients, seeking to capture something essential about them in each small work of art; you can see a sampling of them here. It was Kent’s visions I had in mind when I approached artist Kevin Sprouls about designing a unique bookplate for my readers.

Kevin Sprouls is best known as the artist who created the distinctive “hedcut” portrait style used by The Wall Street Journal. A Kevin Sprouls hedcut of me is one of my most prized possessions, so I knew he would bring something special to this design. I asked him to design a bookplate in the Rockwell Kent tradition, and suggested the image of a man surrounded by books, reading them (my books, presumably). He came back with a sketch, and when I approved it, finalized the drawing.

The result is a lovely bookplate, printed on heavy cream stock and signed by me as a way to thank you for reading my books, keeping them on your shelves and giving them as gifts.

To receive one of these unique miniature works of art — a limited printing, all signed by me — just complete this form. If you’re not already receiving my newsletter, this form will also serve as a subscription to my newsletter, with the latest information about giveaways, tour dates, and exclusive first looks at my new novel, SUSPICION.

Feel free to share this page with friends, while supplies last!

Sorry, bookplates cannot be personalized.

Counting Down to the "Paranoia" Movie

The movie tie-in edition of PARANOIA lands in stores this week, less than a month before the film’s August 16 release date. To celebrate the film’s release, we’re announcing two exciting giveaways.

Win Tickets to the August 8 Premiere!

Enter a sweepstakes for a good cause! Can you be in Los Angeles on August 8?

If you can, click here for a chance to win two tickets for yourself and a guest to attend the Hollywood premiere of PARANOIA, with the stars and me!

For every new newsletter subscriber/sweepstakes entrant, I will donate $10 to Year Up, an organization that offers corporate internship opportunities to less-advantaged young adults. By entering, you'll be helping to create opportunities for the leaders of tomorrow!

Please don’t enter
if you can’t be in Los Angeles on August 8; the prize does not include transportation or lodging, and is not transferable. Entries are due by 11:59 pm EDT on July 31, 2013. We’ll choose two winners at random, each of whom will receive two tickets to attend the premiere. If you’ve won, we’ll notify you on or about August 1, 2013, and you must confirm your attendance with the name of your guest within 24 hours. Good luck!

Win a Signed Movie Poster!

If you can’t get to Los Angeles on August 8, you can still get a piece of Hollywood memorabilia: a full-sized movie poster SIGNED by several of the film’s stars and by me. To enter the drawing, just complete this form by August 15.

FanFest: Be My Guest

The biggest event of the year for thriller writers and fans is ThrillerFest, the annual conference of the International Thriller Writers. This year, for the very first time, we’re including FanFest, a program specifically for fans — and I’d like to offer you a chance to be my guest.

Here’s the deal: I can invite five lucky fans to the FanFest reception, which will feature international bestselling authors like Lee Child, Heather Graham, R.L. Stine, John Lescroart, Andrew Gross, and more, on Friday, July 12 at the Grand Hyatt in Manhattan. Drinks and fabulous gift bags are included, but you’ll have to get yourself there (transportation and lodging are not part of this offer, sorry!).

If you’re already registered for Thrillerfest, live in the New York area, or were planning to be in New York anyway that weekend, this is a unique opportunity to meet some of your favorite authors in one place.

To enter, submit this entry form by May 30. It’s easy: all we want are your name, complete address, email address, and a sentence or two about why you love thrillers. We’ll draw five names at random from all entries received by midnight EDT on May 30, and announce winners the week of June 3. Please enter only if you’ll be able to attend – this prize is not transferable!

THE MYSTERY BOX

THE MYSTERY BOX, a collection of short stories edited by Brad Meltzer for the Mystery Writers of America, is now on sale everywhere. I was honored and pleased to be invited to contribute, especially when I saw the list of other authors involved: Steve Berry, Jan Burke, Laura Lippman, Katherine Neville, R.L. Stine . . . in total, 21 of today’s best mystery authors, writing stories that riff on the question: What’s in the box?

My contribution, “Heirloom,” was a chance to do a couple of things I rarely do: first, write short stories at all (it’s not my format; my stories take longer to tell), and second, actually take that old advice to “write what you know.” My daily life is not exactly the stuff of thrillers, but several years ago, when my wife and I first bought our summer home on Cape Cod, we had a couple of experiences — and heard a terrible story — that inspired “Heirloom.” A young couple accepts a dinner invitation from their neighbors on the Cape, and learns some things about their new house that the Realtor didn’t tell them . . . It’s a creepy, scary story, and I hope you enjoy it.

THE MOSCOW CLUB - Back in Print!

THE MOSCOW CLUB, first published in 1991, predicted the actual coup d’etat that led to the end of the Soviet Union. Joseph's first novel was recently re-issued.

"THE MOSCOW CLUB is an engrossing spy novel. It is insightful since it was written about the Russian coup months before it actually happened. It delves into the Russian culture and political scene. The plot is believable and it is a quick read for those who like engrossing thrillers." Read the full review at MyShelf.com.
