Steve’s Update 11/4/2018
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
Sorry I missed my last update, things got a bit busy. So let’s go
So what have I done the last week(s)? A Bridge To The Quiet Planet: I didn’t quite complete the readthrough, but I’m close. Way With Worlds: I didn’t finish up the writing I wanted, sadly. Other: Nothing much to report here. What am I going to do this next week? A Bridge To The Quiet Planet: Finish the readthrough, then tak...November 3, 2018
Vegan Ground Beef
Back to posting my cooking! This is a simple Ground Beef substitute. You could probably tweak it any number of ways, and do it with other substances than TVP, if you adjusted things like the vegetable broth.
1 cup Textured Vegetable Protein
1 cup low-sodium vegetable broth
3 Tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp liquid smoke
1 tsp cumin
tsp ground black pepper
Mix all ingredients together. Allow them to sit for 15 minutes. Fluff mixture. For added flavor, dry-sauté it for a few minutes to boil off li...

What If It Ended?
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
This tweet struck me hard. It made me think about my talks of Media Gray Goo. I realized that age plays a role in my concern that our media is becoming dull and repetitious, that there are things we do over and over and over until they loose all meaning.
Here we see an example of that in discussing Batman, the ever re-invented character who bears both the burden of the past and the burden o...

Sorry I missed my last update, things got a bit busy. So let’s go
So what have I done the last week(s)? A Bridge To The Quiet Planet: Editor comments addressed, Grammarly check run, and two chapters through the next-to-last readthrough! Plus the cover layout is done, I just have to work on turning it to a final draft! Way With Worlds: So close to being done here. Still not sure if it’ll b...October 23, 2018
Fandom At A Different Level
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
After my post on the dangers of “Gray Goo” Media, serdar had his own detailed response. His response is worth reading – he also has some alternate ideas to my wishes worth considering – and he then notes it’s important to explore why and how we like things over specifics. He then proposes a most interesting exercise.
Sometimes I imagine we can cultivate this by way of exercises. Get together a...

Media Gray Goo
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
Every now and then (OK, weekly), something Very Dumb happens involving a piece of mass culture media. People meltdown because of some casting. Someone gets fired because of saying something controversial like “hey, don’t be a douche.” Some new thing comes out that really just builds on something else, and we vaguely care.
How much of our minds get occupied by stuff like Marvel, DC, Star Wars,...

Civic Diary: The Lack Of Planning
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
I’ve been thinking about why politics sucks. When the world is burning up, and people blame Millennials for problems the previous generations created, and we put migrant kids in jail, you kind of wonder “what the hell happened.”
Now is where I get very weird and discuss the ability to plan and organize. Also, yes, this is going to involve Agile and Project Management, and no it’s not bullshi...

Steve’s Update 10/13/2018
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
My weekly update. Sadly not too exciting because . . . well, editing.
So what have I done the last week? A Bridge To The Quiet Planet: Editing away, and two more chapters to go! Way With Worlds: Writing away as well on the organization book (still due November, but we’ll see). This one is turning out surprisingly good as, well, I manage professionally. Other: Not too many other updates her...October 11, 2018
Some Thoughts On My Media Choices
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
My media tastes seem odd for a man of 50, at least for many people’s point of view. I’m big into anime, documentaries, unusual or odd films, animation, and things that catch my fancy. It’s not a lot of typical stuff out there, even though a lot of supposedly “mainstream” stuff (like “Better Call Saul” or “Atlanta) is pretty damn spectacular, especially compared to past shows.
It’s strange to...

Editing Into The New
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
It’s a strange thing, editing “A Bridge To The Quiet Planet,” my upcoming novel that you only know about if you hear me talking about it constantly. Editing has become a bit of a slog.
This is no fault of my exceptional editor. My editor (who if you want to get an intro, I will do, so you can give her lots of money) did an exceptional job. The problem is I’m kind of tired of reading my book...
