COVID-19, Lessons Learned, Work from Home
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steves Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
Theres going to be plenty to say, write, and learn from the horrors of COVID-19. This is about the good things weve supposedly learned, and the unexpected sides of these good findings.
See, its easy for us to learn from the bad things, because the bad things hammer their lessons home we have to actively learn to avoid them (and we do). Its also easy for us to look at the good things and learn...

The End Of The World As We Don’t Know It
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steves Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
My friend Serdar talked about about his disinterest in writing post-apocalyptic fiction at his blog. I wanted to add my own thoughts on this because most apocalyptic stuff and even post-apocalyptic stuff feels boring and inaccurate. As Serdar puts it, its best to take things as Mad Max like mythology, a sort of lesson or metaphor.
As for the rest of the apocalypses . . .
Most fictional...

Working At Home Isn’t Working from Home
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steves Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
(This is also part of a Twitter Thread.)
Right now a lot of people are working from home during the COVID crisis. @Neilmwebb noted Youre not working from home; you are at your home during a crisis trying to work.
Id like to expand on this observation. Because people are not just home during a crisis working, theres a lot more going on we need to consider.
THE CRISIS: Yes, were at home during a...

Dispatches From The Bunker
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steves Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
Im hunkered down at home, sheltering in place, like so many of you. At this rate I dont expect to be going out like normal until the end of May. Id like to blog more writing stuff, but its a bit challenging as my focus is different getting through this.
The problem with getting through this is there is no going back to normal. Normal is gone and good riddance.
Normal led us to this mess....

Social Ruggedization
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steves Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
You didnt see any blog posts from me last week as life was busy and disrupted due to the coronavirus. Dont worry, Im fine, its just that there were a lot of changes.
I, my girlfriend, and a lot of people we know are working from home, which is a huge schedule change. Were in a shelter-in-place order here. Then theres the collapsing economy and so on.
Youll understand the lack of blog posts...

Remote Cons?
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steves Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
With the coronavirus again in the news, I was talking with fellow author Dianne Dotson about COVID-19 and conventions. Obviously some cons are threatened by this disease and its going to be with us awhile. This led to a further discussion of how could cons go remote?
That at first sounds kind of impossible for large cons. I mean, how do you replace a get-together for 20,000 people? Im not...

The Benefits Of Work From Home
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.comand Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
With COVID-19 being an obvious issue at the news, there’s stories of campuses, businesses, etc. doing work from home, study from home, etc. This has made me think more about working from home, and I wanted to share some insight.
This has long been a part of my life – I was doing telecommuting experimentally back in 2005. Over the years I’ve seen more and more telecommuting, and the latest health...
