My Year in Art Collage – over 150 individual art pieces complete in my second year of picking up a pencil

My 2013 Year in Art Collage

My 2013 Year in Art Collage

I had to put this collage together, I had to see just how much art I had produced over the last year. While compared to some it isn’t that impressive, for me it is quite a collection with over 150 individual pieces.

This is only my second year of picking up a pencil after almost a 20 year hiatus, given the breadth of subject matter and materials I covered this year, watercolor, acyclic, gouache, inktense and black line,  I am, without getting to full of myself, quite proud of what I’ve accomplished. Just click on the Art Tab to view all my work so far…

While I still see myself primarily a writer, it is a good feeling to know that I can with a little effort, and much practice able to start bringing my words to life. Thank you all for your faith and staying with me throughout this journey :)

Video Preview of the Tristan and the Cuddly Defenders Teddy Bear Adventure Graphic Novel

Tristan and the Cuddly Defenders Cover

Tristan and the Cuddly Defenders Cover, Story by Nick Davis, Art by Dan Nokes

Okay Teddy Bear Army, here is the video preview of the Tristan and the Cuddly Defenders Graphic Novel. This is the printers-proof of the book so it contains some minor formatting and typography errors, but it is largely what the finished product will be.  You can see the video after the jump.

The Graphic novel is 6 inches by 9 inches and is 52 pages in length, there is 48 pages of Teddy Bear Adventure written by me Nick Davis and illustrated by Dan Nokes; who has done an amazing job bringing my words and Tristan’s world to life.

We have new characters, new enemies and monsters this book (and this is my opinion) looks and feels really good. You can check out a 10 page preview of the book on the pre-order page.

All that has happened will happen again… Is the Universe a computer simulation?

Is this realityThere is a theory that our reality, our very existence is nothing more than a complex simulation, a hologram and we are all playing our part in a complex program, but to what end?

This is a question I cannot answer, to me it is very Douglas Adam’s in its theory construction, that somehow reality can be scratched away and we will find ourselves, our true selves plugged into a giant computer somewhere.

Of course it would explain Déjà vu, paranormal happenings, and those really odd times when we put something down and for a few moments it just disappears.  Maybe this is the reason we feel a God exists while we are just mice running around a complex life maze.

You can really hurt your head thinking around it all implications and possibilities. I like to think God created us so he could find out who created him. Anyhow much smarter heads than me are prodding his entire Reality Simulation theory, all I can see is be careful just in case you cause a reset. After all… All that has happened will happen again…

Living in the days of future now with Valkyrie One a Prototype NASA ‘Super’ Robot Astronaut

Valkyrie One NASA Prototype Robot AstronautWhen I was a child reading the Ro-Busters in Tornado and continuing their adventures in 2000AD I never thought we would see the days that such practical humanoid robots would start to appear. Meet Valkyrie One, a prototype NASA Super Robot, modular, independent motion and with a high degree of mobility.

Valkyrie One is built for the DARPA Robotic Challenge and designed to be first generation of robots to be sent to Mars to be the precursor of human exploration.

In many ways I can see this robot as a ride along unit being guided by a human operator, but being able to make its own autonomous decisions. We are living in the days of future now, exciting times ahead.

You can learn more about Valkyrie One and NASA’s plans for it here.

Quite fitting with the weather the ‘Let it Go’ Elsa Sequence from Disney’s Frozen Movie performed by Idina Menzel

Elsa from Disney's FrozenI caught this earlier today and knew I had to post it, it is the full sequence from the ‘Let it Go’ song from Disney’s new release Frozen performed by Idina Menzel. The character featured here is Elsa the antagonist of the story, although not in the traditional Disney sense if this song is anything to go by.

View it as a guilty pleasure, the animation, song and the journey this character under takes in this sequence is really well put together, and is the one of the best pieces of visual storytelling I’ve seen come out of Disney for a long time.

RIP Nelson Mandela the Great Unifier and Peacemaker 1918 to 2013 a legacy to live up too

Nelson MandelaSad news,I did kind of figure it was coming when I heard the news on BBC Five Live of a gathering of State Vehicles at Nelson Mandela’s residence.

Nelson Mandela died today at home aged 95 in Johannesburg, South Africa. This is someone we can all look to and say he was a great man, he united a nation were he had every excuse to tear apart. He believed in peace, in unity, in his nation and its people.

There are so many who could learn from his example and if they did this world would be a much better place.  The BBC News services has more details on his passing and life.
