Found in the Archive – Tau Fire Warriors the Games Workshop Anime Aliens

Tau FirewarriorsToday found deep in my miniature photo archive we have a sqaud of Tau Fire Warriors, proof if you ever need one that Games Workshop harbors a few anime nuts working for them. With organic lines, a distinct alien look and classic anime battlesuits the Tau are a fun straight out of Blue Gender; they are a very odd race to appear in the Warhammer 40,000 universe… Almost too clean.

The miniatures above were painted using Bubonic Brown shaded with watered down Snakebite Leather to pick out the detail on their armor. Red Gore clothing shaded with Scab Red, highlighted with Red Gore. The Squad leaders face was Codex Grey, shaded with a 50/50 mix of Codex Grey and Chaos Black. Then highlighted with Codex Grey again, and a 50/50 mix of Codex Grey and Skull White.

As with everything I paint I try to keep the army cohesive by using less than 5-6 colors throughout. Its a nice discipline to keep, and worked really well with these Firewarriors and they turned out to be a nice little army once it was put together.

Review – Alpha Flight .1 by Fred Van Lente & Greg Pak Canada's premier super hero team is back

Alpha FlightAlpha Flight .1

Publisher Marvel

Written by Fred Van Lente, Greg Pak

Art by Ben Oliver

Cover by Phil Jimenez

Let's open this review by saying I know nothing about Alpha Flight; beyond them being Canada's premier super hero team, and they were all killed during during the reboot of the Avengers. So I went in with no preconceived notions or expectations.

I actually enjoyed this book, out of all the Marvel .1 intuitive books this one actually did the job it was supposed to do. It introduced the team, who they were, what Alpha Flight is; and then gave us a great little super team adventure that wrapped up on one book. Very well done…

The artwork is nice, the panel pacing good and although I wanted to learn a little more about the back story of Alpha Flight the story was a fun super team romp. I don't really have anything bad to say about this book it hit all the right buttons that a introductory book should, and I might just be adding Alpha Flight to my box at Chucks Comics.

Fun super hero romp.

4 thumbs up out of 5

Update #8: Fallen off the Grid and into the crab bucket

Ugh… Today I fell off the grid and to be totally honest gave myself a huge crisis of confidence about Project Fabula. The one place where I thought I would get some enthusiastic feedback and encouragement about a project designed to showcase Indie Creators, turned into a huge crab bucket fest and shook me up.

If you can't get indies to be enthusiastic about a indie project then what can you do? Maybe its just because its a new idea and people are afraid of new ideas…

I know that Project Fabula is a good idea, no one out there is doing a mashup of illustrated prose and comic book stories in one publication, and certainly no one is attempting to do this in a publication that will be coming out quarterly. The stories I've got lined up for the first issue are freaking awesome and once we add illustrations to it they are going to light up the page.

The idea is sound and can be carried across printed and eBook formats!

Maybe where I am looking to talk about it and promote isn't?

I'm 15 days out from completing my run here and things are looking grim as the odds are now stacked against me. I ask any of you who take there time to read this post to please get the word out about Project Fabula, to Tweet, Facebook, Blog, or talk about it. Plus if you have the dime to spare please pledge your support to help Project Fabula launch!

Together we can do this and help each other climb out the Crab bucket!

Arigato,

Nick

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

Invictus by

The Wonder Tales, my all ages fairy tale book goes to my daughters school

Here is some cool news for you all. I was talking to my children on the phone today and my daughter was telling me she took her print copy of The Wonder Tales, my collection of all ages fairy stories, to her school today for reading time.

She telling me how everyone in her class wanted to look at her book, how the Teacher asked who wrote the book, and how grinning she said her Daddy.  First off the Teacher didn't believe her, then she looked at the back of the book and saw my picture there.

Yeah, I can just see my daughter grinning like crazy as she showed off the book, and I feel really chuffed, in fact full of chuffiness over hearing this… Thank you my Princess :)
