Conscious Cat Sunday: Don’t Complain About Your Life

tortoiseshell-cat

However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun
it and call it hard names. – Henry David Thoreau

I frequently write about adopting a positive mindset in my Conscious Cat Sunday columns. I believe that it helps you cope more easily with whatever life throws at you. I think Einstein had it right when he said “the most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.” Adopting a positive mindset is a conscious choice.

Complaining about your...

Mews and Nips: Shipwrecked Tortie Finds New Home

Lake-Havasu-tortoiseshell-cat

A nine-year-old tortoiseshell cat used up one of her nine lives when she survived a terrifying experience after she was found alive on a sunken boat on Lake Havasu, Arizona. Apparently, the stray tortie climbed into the front compartment of the boat where the boat’s owner stored his supplies, and without his knowledge, accompanied him on his voyage across the lake. When high waves overtook the craft, it sank to the bottom. “Lucky,” as she was aptly named, was found when the boat was taken to...

Giveaway: Sticky Paws Scratching Solutions from Pioneer Pet

Sticky-Paws

This giveaway is sponsored by Pioneer Pet

Scratching is a natural behavior for cats. Cats scratch to groom their claws, the scratching motion helps remove dead sheaths from their front claws (they usually chew them off their back claws). They scratch to mark their territory. Their front paws contain scent glands, and scratching leaves behind their unique signature on the object being scratched. They scratch for exercise; scratching stretches the muscles in the front legs and all along the ba...

Cats Make Purrfect Therapy Pets

therapy-cat

Guest post by Mary Kennedy

I’m a writer, a psychologist, and a cat lover. And sometimes the three worlds mix. I created two fictional cats (Barney and Scout in the Dream Club Mysteries*) and I have eight adorable rescued cats at home. Both my fictional cats and my own fur babies have many traits in common; they spend their days bird-watching, playing and of course, sleeping. I always feel calm, centered and happy when I’m with my cats; there’s something peaceful and comforting about their pr...

The Right Diet for Cats with Cancer

cat-eating

While cancer in cats is not as common as it in dogs, it is still one of the leading causes of death in older cats. According to the Animal Cancer Foundation, 6 million cats will be diagnosed with cancer in the United States along. And because cats are masters at masking illness, it is often harder to detect.

Cancer used to be a death sentence for cats, but recent advances in feline cancer research have made treatment possible in many cases. Just like with human cancers, early detection is ke...

Conscious Cat Sunday: Are You Making Summer Memories?

cat-window-seat

Summer is my favorite season, and I always feel that it passes much too quickly. So far, it’s been a great summer. Even though up until last week, I was buried in a deadline for my two new books (I turned them in to my publisher last Friday), I still made time for summer pleasures. Now that my schedule isn’t quite so intense, I’m going to make sure that I savor each warm, sunny day and make plenty of memories to get me through the cold, dark days of winter.

Think back to some of your favorit...
