Review: Love, Alba by Sophy Burnham
I confess, I do enjoy reading contemporary romance novels, and when the book features a cat, so much the better! Sophy Burnham’s Love, Alba will satisfy readers of both cat book and romance genres. The book has it all: love, romance, adventure, and three delightful feline characters.
Alba is a two-year-old wise cat who lives with her guardian Lorna. Lorna, who is over 60 years old, has fallen in love with her much younger neighbor David (who also happens to have a handsome man cat named Gol...

Allegra Goes to the Dentist – Part One: Diagnosis, and Choosing a Veterinary Dentist
Finding out that your cat needs dental work provokes anxiety in most cat guardians, and despite my years of working in veterinary clinics, and having been through many dental procedures with the cats that came before Allegra and Ruby, there’s not much that makes me feel as anxious as the thought of one of my babies having to undergo anesthesia. This is a four-part series in which I share my recent experience with Allegra. I’m hoping that it will not only put your minds at ease if you’re face...

Conscious Cat Sunday: Feeling Restless?
Do you ever feel restless? Do you get that nagging feeling that something should be happening, or is about to happen? You’re slightly on edge, maybe fidgety, and there’s a nagging sense of “there’s got to be more than this?” Your cats give you the stink eye because from their perspective, your energy is all messed up?
Welcome to the human condition. No matter how good life is, most of us feel the occasional sense of discontent. But while a certain amount of restlessness can propel you out of...

Mews and Nips: Coroner Fights to Keep Therapy Cat
Therapy cats bring comfort in a variety of settings, including hospitals and nursing homes. A kitten aptly named Morticia has been providing this service at the Lexington County Coroner’s Office in South Carolina. Unfortunately, county officials are pressuring coroner Margaret Fisher to find a new home for the stray rescued cat, rather than letting Morticia continue to perform her duties. Fisher is fighting to keep the cat at the office. ““She is absolutely emotional therapy for us here at t...

Review and Giveaway: Women Who Still Love Cats Too Much
Do you have a co-dependent relationship with your cats? One definition of co-dependency is that it “often involves placing a lower priority on one’s own needs, while being excessively preoccupied with the needs of others.” If I substitute the words “Allegra and Ruby” for the word “others” in this definition, then I’m guilty. Of course, there are fare worse definitions of co-dependency, many of which involve the word “dysfunctional,” but we won’t go there.
