Review: Zen Clipper Cat Nail Trimmer

zen-clipper-review

Cats’ nails, especially when they’re kittens, are very sharp, and they don’t just hurt when they’re used on you, they can also damage furniture and carpet. Having plenty of scratching posts and training your cats to use them will help with that aspect, but keeping cats’ nails trimmed is important for other reasons. Cats’ nails grow very fast, and if not trimmed, can grow into the pads of the paws, which is a very painful condition that will require veterinary attention.

Canine Influenza Virus Can Affect Cats

cat-flu

The H3N2 virus, which was responsible for infecting a large number of dogs in the Midwest last year, appears to be transmittable to cats as well. The Shelter Medicine Program at the University of Wisconsin has confirmed that the virus has infected a group of cats in the region.

“Suspicions of an outbreak in the cats were initially raised when a group of them displayed unusual signs of respiratory disease,” says clinical assistant professor and director of the Shelter Medicine program, Sandra...

Conscious Cat Sunday: Mewsings in Purple

purple-rain-cats

Even ten days later, I still find it hard to accept that Prince is really gone. I never owned any of his albums, and I wasn’t even that big a fan, but his death is hitting me hard. I don’t think I realized until all the tributes started pouring in just how much his songs were part of the soundtrack of my life. Today, I’m going to take a little break from our usual more cat-centric Sunday fare to pay tribute to this amazing artist.

Maybe his death was such a jolt because he was so young – ver...

Mews and Nips: Royal Mail Bans Deliveries Due to Mail Snatching Cat

black-and-white-cat

A couple in Bristol in the UK received a warning notice from the Royal Mail that deliveries to their home may be suspended “due to the actions of a cat on the property.” It turns out that Bella, a beautiful black and white moggy, thinks it’s a fun game when the mail starts coming through the slot in the door, and has been batting at the envelopes as soon as they start appearing. The notice stated that the postman reported that when he pushes the mail through the letterbox, the cat “snatches...

Iris Grace: How Art and a Special Cat Unlocked a Little Girl’s Silent World

Iris Grace

Two years ago, I was honored when Arabella Carter-Johnson wrote a guest post for us, introducing us to her very special autistic daughter Iris and her Maine Coon cat Thula, who was instrumental in helping Iris open up and communicate in ways that she hadn’t done before. Since then, the pair have captured the world’s heart through their Facebook page and other media outlets.

In Iris Grace: The Story of a Little Girl Whose Talent Unlocked Her Silent World, Iris’ mother chronicles the remarkabl...

Rainbow Bridge Memorials: Beautiful Jewelry to Remember Lost Loved Ones

cremation-jewelry

Losing a beloved cat is devastating, no matter what the circumstances. Grief is a very individual experience, and no two cat guardians will grieve in exactly the same way. Finding ways to remember the lost cat in ways that are meaningful to each person can be an important part of the healing process.

Jennifer Muldowney, the owner and creative force behind Rainbow Bridge Memorials, helps pet parents heal after loss by creating unique pieces of jewelry that contain a small portion of the pet’s...

I previously introduced you to the amazing Lacey’s Lookout Window Seat from The Savvy Pet. This luxury lounger is one of the most beautiful pieces of cat furniture I’ve seen in a while. Generously sized, this piece requires the right amount of floor space, and the right window, so cats can truly take advantage of all the benefits of “Cat TV.”
