Participate in NomNomNow’s Microbiome Study: Get a Free Microbiome Kit
This post is sponsored by NomNomNow*
Research in human medicine is starting to reveal that the vast ecosystem of organisms in our digestive systems, also known as the microbiome, might be the key to health and healthy aging. And thankfully, researchers are also starting to look at and understand just how much this complex system impacts the health of our companion animals.
NomNomNow’s Research and Development Team is at the forefront of some of this research. Headed by Dr. Ryan Honaker, Di...

Yochabel’s Wisdom: The Last Day
Guest post by Casey Hersch
This is the seventh in a series of posts by Casey Hersch. Casey discusses the many lessons she learned about caring for Yochabel during her illness, including her quest to stop Yochabel’s cancer from growing and spreading, barriers present with senior cats, variations in diet including supplements and herbs, and how to focus on the individual cat’s needs. Yochabel was not only Casey’s feline companion. She left Casey with ways to cope with her own illness, and wi...

Cat Oven Mitts Make Cooking and Baking Fun
I’m all about products that are functional and beautiful at the same time. When I came across these cute oven mitts, I just had to share them with you.
Made from 100% cotton, these gloves are big, but not so gigantic that you won’t be able to get a good grip on dishes. At 12” they’re long enough to protect your arms when you reach into the oven.
The lining is soft and feels good to the touch.
The gloves make a fun addition to any cat lover’s kitchen and the purrfect gift for friends who l...

Mews and Nips: The Unplugged Version
Today’s abbreviated issue of Mews and Nips does not have a lead story, because we will be unplugging for most of the weekend and I didn’t have time to pull one together while we were getting ready. As you’re reading this, I will be recharging my batteries at the beautiful weekend house of friends. The house is surrounded by trees, with a view of the river. The only sounds you hear there are the wind in the trees and the sounds of birds and other wild critters. There is cell phone reception,...

Gwen Cooper’s Curl Up with a Cat Tale series features humorous and heartwarming short stories about the ongoing adventures of Gwen’s feline family. I find myself falling a little bit more in love with Gwen’s cats with each story. In this month’s installment Gwen talks about something we’re all familiar with: dealing with cat claws.
Cat parents will recognize themselves and their own cats as Gwen shares stories of her experiences ranging from decorating he...

Buckley’s Story 10th Anniversary
This post contains affiliate links*
It’s hard to believe that this weekend marks the 10th anniversary of the publication of Buckley’s Story: Lessons from a Feline Master Teacher. When this little cat came into my life one spring day in 2005, I could not have imagined in my wildest dreams just how much she would change my life.
Without Buckley, I might not have become a writer. Without Buckley, The Conscious Cat might not exist. Even though Amber inspired this site, its original purpose, in...

Allegra, Ruby and the Quest for the Purrfect Sun Puddle
Like most cats, Allegra and Ruby love their sun puddles. My two little sun worshippers know exactly where in our house the first sun puddle of the day appears, and they tend to follow the sun throughout the day.
This time of year, the best sun puddles appear in the late afternoon in our living room.
The girls often start out sitting on the coffee table.
Eventually, Ruby will move to the scratch lounger underneath the coffee table. She waits until the sun hits is just so.
Allegra likes to...
