Can You Teach a Cat to be a Lap Cat?

lap-cat

Every cat has a unique personality, and some cats are more independent than others. And while most of us want our cats to cuddle with us and let us hold them, it’s not in every cat’s nature to show affection by snuggling up on a lap.

Different cats, different lap preferences

Ruby was a total snuggle bunny. I called her my “velcro kitten,” because if she had had her way, she would have been permanently glued to me 24/7. She was like that pretty much from the time I adopted her, with the excepti...

How many times over the last couple of months have you had a meltdown? Sometimes, it all just gets to be too much. During normal times, I generally have the emotional tools and resources to stop myself from melting down, even when I’m stressed or frustrated or anxious, but these days, all bets are off.

Between all the uncertainty, the anxiety, and the grief over everything we’ve all lost over the last few months, it it any wonder that many of us are having e...

Mews and Nips: Woman Turns Delivery Boxes into Cars for Her Cat

cat-box-car

Like so many of us, Jen Prior, a greeting card designer from Bracknell in the UK, has been doing a little (okay, a lot of) online shopping, but unlike the rest of us, she found a super creative way to transform the boxes into cars for her cat! So far, she’s crafted an ambulance, a tank, and the Jeep from Jurrasic Park. For more about Jen’s fantastic creations, visit MetroUK.

If you missed any of the stories featured on the Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: on Monday, I told you about a ...

Not surprisingly, as the author of two volumes of Purrs of Wisdom that are all about what we can learn from our cats, The Karma of Cats: Spiritual Wisdom from Our Feline Friends “had me at hello.” I knew I would love this book before I even turned the first page, and I wasn’t disappointed.

In this lovely book, spiritual teachers, writers, and animal experts reflect on the life lessons and the gifts they have received from their feline friends, from unconditi...

Guest post by Ingrid R. Niesman, MS PhD

Unprecedented circumstances provide opportunities when you least expect them. In our current crisis, cats may hold the key to beating back the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The link between FIP and COVID-19

While we were blindsided by this baffling new illness, in retrospect, we shouldn’t have been so unprepared for a novel coronavirus to emerge. Feline enteric coronavirus (FECV), the virus responsible for development of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) in young...

cat-computer-webinar

This post is sponsored by Assisi Animal Health*

Today’s post about Assisi Animal Health is a bit of a departure from what I usually cover: the innumerable benefits cats derive from using the Assisi Loop or Loop Lounge. Sunday Quotes: Stick with Love

stick-with-love

This past week has been one of the most turbulent in our country’s history. For many who are already feeling anxious due to the pandemic, recent events added an additional layer of distress.

This site is about cats, but over the last few Sundays, in addition to the usual cat photo with a quote, I’ve been offering suggestions on how to cope with the emotional fallout from the pandemic, even if that advice wasn’t always cat-centric. Your feedback has confirmed that you’re finding my ruminations ...
