2021 Cat Book of the Year

2021-cat-book-of-the-year

Last week, I shared my list of my top 5 cat books of 2021. Even though I loved all five of the books I picked, the choice for Best Cat Book of the Year was easy:

nalas-world-dean-nicholson

When Dean Nicholson set off from Scotland to ride his bicycle around the world, he expected to learn more about our planet, maybe have some adventures. What he didn’t expect was that he would meet a cat who would change his life as much as he changed hers. In Nala’s World, Nicholson shares his incredible journey as the pair travel th...

On Monday, I featured my choices for the 10 best cat products of 2021. It can be challenging to pick just one product out of all the products I receive for review every year.

This year, the choice was easy. My choice for the 2021 Best Cat Product of the Year is:

Cat Ladder Feline Furniture

Back in June, we received a custom made cat ladder to replace an ancient carpeted cat tree, and the ladder is not only Allegra-approved, it looks absolutely beautiful in ...

My Top 5 Cat Books of 2021

I don’t keep track of the number of books I read each year, but my best guess is somewhere around 100, and of course, many of them are cat books. I review books here on The Conscious Cat on a regular basis .

I made a commitment to myself long ago that I would never post a negative book review. I feel that every author pours his or her heart and soul into a book, and just because I don’t like a book doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not a good book. As a result, ...

I see a lot of new products each year, and I try to share as many of the good ones with you as I can. And of course, Allegra has been busy helping me review many of them for you throughout the year. With so many products, it’s really hard to choose only 10 favorites, but with the help of my little product tester, we’ve come up with our list of the 10 best for this year, listed in no particular order.

Sunday Cat Love and Above: Happy Mew Year – Reflect, Release, Create and Celebrate

cat-new-year

Guest post by Siena Lee-Tajiri

Happy Holidays, friends! It’s the day after Christmas. Today, many of us are eating leftovers, picking up wrapping paper, and saving bows and ribbons while leaving the tissue pile out for the cats.

Many years ago, I started the tradition of writing my thank you notes either the day of or day after Christmas. I truly enjoy doing it this way because the energy of gratitude and joy are still palpable and the notes get infused with this extra love.

I love the holiday...

The Night Before Catmas

cat-christmas-sleeping

I’ve always loved Clement Clarke Moore’s poem The Night Before Christmas. Over the years, there have been many cat versions of the poem out there, but none better than the one dictated to Harry Shubin by the Ghost of Catmas Future on a dark winter night.

T’was the night after the adoption event,
And all through the store,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a stray cricket on the floor
The Adoption Counselors were all snug in their beds
Thinking of ways to move adoptions ahead.

The cage card...

Review: Soft Tip Grooming Gloves

grooming-gloves-cat

Brushing is not only a great way to keep your cat’s coat and skin healthy, it’s also a wonderful way for you to spend quality time with your cat – if your cat enjoys being groomed. For cats who don’t like being brushed but enjoy being petted, a grooming glove may be the purrfect solution.

Soft Tip Grooming Glove features

Made from pet-safe silicone and breathable mesh, these gloves have 259 silicone tips (apparently somebody counted them, I did not verify this!) The tips easily remove fur whil...

Remembering Ruby at Christmas Time

ruby-christmas

I can’t believe that Saturday marked two years since I had let Ruby go. This time of year, even two years later, the grief still feels pretty fresh. Losing a cat is always hard, but it can be especially difficult when it happens during the holidays. Buckley died the day after Thanksgiving in 2008, and  Thanksgiving has always been bittersweet since then.

Memories help. Ruby loved Christmas, so I thought I’d share some of my Ruby Christmas memories with you today.

Benefits of Slow Feeders

Do you have a cat who inhales his meals? Does she throw up after meals, a syndrome also known as “scarf and barf?” Does she show other signs of indigestion? If so, your cat may benefit from a slow feeder bowl.

Benefits of slow feedersThey can prevent vomiting after meals. However, a cat who vomits frequently, regardless of how fast he eats or what bowl she eats from, requires veterinary attention. Frequent vomiting is never normal. They promote healthy dig...
