Site / Tag Guide
A guide through the inchoate (brain)tagging system I'm building here:
Morning: morning posts, daily.
Film, EarBliss, Books, Games (to come): Inputs, thoughts on, current reads, etc. Fascinations, inspirations, all that good stuff.
Links: things found during web scavengings.
The Shelves: images and commentary about things that live on my shelves.
Spinner Rack: images and commentary of bits from my comics collection and comics in general. I did, after all, write a book about them, so... Might expand to include art from different artists, inspirations. etc.
News: news and announcements.
The Work: new words, new pods.
Worknotes: random notes about process / work / writing.
DogPicture: explains itself.
(Still)Life: Pictures but not DogPicture: every DogPicture is a (Still)Life, not every (Still)Life is a DogPicture.
SiteNotes: basic notes on site stuff. Like this.
Etc: Snippets, etc. Nothing major, just scraps of thought.
Informalities: whenever/whatever thoughts that don’t fit into any other category, longer than Etc., but not at all an essay.
Will update this page as more types of brainscrap show up. Let me know if there’s anything you’d like me add in the comments.

Surprise / Restart
Slowly but surely winding my way to the smaller assignments from the broadness of an idea; a question that I always ask of myself: have I found the smallest angle, the smallest sliver? It's only through that self-interrogation that I find my way to something bigger, something that I didn't know I was looking for – and that's the key, really: to be able to surprise yourself.
Speaking of surprise / slight panic: a weird Obsidian tic this morning: it refused to leap into text editing mode after plugging into monitor / bluetooth keyboard / wireless mouse. Restart + opening a new Zettlekasten note and typing in it seems to fix.
A whining Kirby, the lament of the growing puppy who just ate first breakfast / first nom-noms three hours ago, signals that (second)breakfasttime is nigh. The day awaits.

I was skeptical when I ordered it, but the Apple Pencil is a brilliant tool (used in Ferrite) for podcast editing.
Bloodwork Drive Disarray
Schedule thrown into disarray this morning: year-late fasting blood work. But here I am, stuck, drawn, and scribbling these scraps to no one in particular. Something I noticed on the hunger-panged drive to the bloodwork, my first time in a few years on the pre-dawn roads (given that my pre-dawn hours are spent at The Work): people drive fast before the sun comes up. Everyone has somewhere to be, I suppose.
Today could qualify as "one of those days": not particuarly a surge of depression (thank you, happy pills), but not feeling particularly great about the state of things in my orbit either. Unease isn't the right word, nor is "down"; it's something else. Can't quite figure it. Resigned? No…
TSR0007, featuring Fran Dominguez, AKA Forest Robots, is now live. On with the day.

New TSR: Fran Dominguez, AKA Forest Robots
Fran Dominguez, AKA Forest Robots, joins me on THE SOCIALIZED RECLUSE to discuss his birthday weekend adventure in the wilderness, the perils of sand, the utility of data to ameleoriate misery, and his stunning new album, HORST & GRABEN. You can listen to the full episode here, or via Apple Podcasts/your preferred podcast player.
“Don’t Eat the Couch,” Redux / Pod Inbound
The sound-dampening / light blocking curtains are hung and the Sanctum feels even more like a cave which is the way I've always wanted it to be. Wrote the first book in a similar space and have, I think, been trying to get back to a semblance of that space / bring that space into the current iteration of the Sanctum ever since. Next task is to attend to the details, make it look better. Eye hooks are my friend.
Part of my frustration with The Main Thing comes from a desire to find a different rhythm for this one, to feel it in a different way. This desire – like all of them, really, is probably a mistake: as with (final) form, I need to let the story tell me how it's going to sound, the design of its house that will make it feel at home.
You were right, Scott. PICARD got better in episode six. But still: there's only four episodes to go – bit of a pacing issue there.
THE SOCIALIZED RECLUSE, Ep0007, featuring Fran Dominguez, AKA Forest Robots, is on its way. Should be live by 1000.
