Hey Matt huge fan here! I'm curious about something after having a discussion I had with my girlfriend. Would you consider comic books/ graphic novels literature? As in teachable in schools and whatnot. Or more of a sub category of its own design?

no; i’d consider comic books and graphic novels comic books and graphic novels, and very MUCH teachable in schools and whatnot. a vital artform with its own history language idiom craft and culture. i think a lot of bad thinking happens when someone applies the critical frameworks of one artform to another and takes the result as a given. comics shares a lot with the written word. it shares a lot with the drawn image. it shares a lot with film. but there are things unique to comics and only c...

Hey Mr. Fraction, Odd question for you. My wife just informed me that for my 40th birthday (December 1st), her and a few of my friends organized a trip to Portland for us so I can go to the Micheal Chabon reading. Are you going to this reading? I only ask

oh shit! well, first off, happy birthday. second, i’m gonna be in Eugene that weekend, and miss MC and the whole thing, which super-sucks. Also MOONGLOW is really fucking wonderful.

you could just send it to our PO Box:

PO Box 25662
Portland, OR 97298

and i’ll send it back signed, how‘bout that?

I gotta say I was sorry Vin didn’t come back for one last game in the post-season.
