Food Through The Post! Swiss Bliss
I’ve been lucky with my #foodiepenpals so far – one from Belgium in October and one from Switzerland this month. After telling my new Swiss pal – the lovely Lucie from FitSwissChick - that I sadly didn’t like chocolate too much (not even from Switzerland) she put together a package of alternative, traditional foodstuffs for [...]

iPan
I have long suspected that not only am I crap in the kitchen, but dangerous. Today I opened a kitchen cupboard and a tin of baked beans fell out. Which ordinarily wouldn’t be a problem except underneath said cupboard was our iPad. Smash. I know it shouldn’t really have been there, but I use it [...]

Birthday Cake Ache
Birthdays! A cause for celebration? A chance to make someone happy? A time to try hard for the ones you love? Or in my case grit your teeth and have a go at making a cake… Regular readers will know the problem I have with celebratory cakes and how I usually solve that problem – [...]

Food Through The Post! Gifts from Belgium…
If you are anything like me travelling to different countries involves checking out the local snacks. (And I don’t mean decent cuisine!) One of the main reasons for going holiday for me is so I can sit by the pool with something alcoholic and an absolutely massive bag of crisps or corn snacks with a [...]

Gingerbread Son
Look at this Gingerbread Man: Not bad right? Not burnt, not broken. Quite well shaped, actually recognisable as a human form. Good positioning of the currant facial features and buttons. A nice chewy texture. Made by my four-year old son. Not me.

King Alfred’s Crumpets
Look, I can’t even toast crumpets. Although I am sure most of this is my toasters fault? Sadly I had no more crumpets left so I pretended that my son had asked for porridge for breakfast all along and gave him that instead. (easy, boiling water added to cup of flavoured oats) He looked at [...]

Toddler Takeaway
As you know I love Chinese food. Love it. Especially the usual takeaway dishes. Hard to make it home though right? Authentically. (Well it is for me!) A recent attempt to make an oriental style dish of greens was a bit of a mare. I find it difficult to tread that fine line between cooked [...]

You Say Frittata, I Say FrittaNO
I’ve made a frittata. Well, I think I have? I might have just made a rubbish omelette. I’m not sure. There was some spinach in my veg box this week and ordinarily I would let it go yellow and crispy before throwing away. But no, not this week… I put ‘spinach recipes’ into the Internet [...]

Diving into a Sussex Pond – a drunken tale in two parts
Let’s get this out of the way straight away, I was drunk when I made this. DRUNK! Not ‘tipsy drunk’, and not ‘let me tell you a story drunk’ but properly ‘reel around the fountain before getting down onto the train tracks drunk’. And like most who get that drunk I became invincible, capable of [...]

Wooden Working Lunch
So last night I made up some chicken and pesto pasta to take into work with me today for lunch as a kind of economy drive (and I had some chicken in the fridge that needed using up). Looked great last night, green and white and fresh. I was very excited about my home made [...]
