Here’s the listing on JewishBoston.com: Esther’s Hanukkah Disaster will provide the basis for this program.  Jane will read her book, lead a game and families will be able to participate in a craft activity related to the book.  There is no fee for this special program.  Jane will have her books for sale (and signing!) as well.  Our family educator, Nancy Kaplan will join Jane for some Hanukkah songs.

Next Stop for Me and Esther: Bookends, Winchester, MA

On Saturday, November 16th at 2 PM I will be reading Esther’s Hanukkah Disaster at the wonderful independent bookstore, Bookends, 559 Main St., in Winchester, MA. The store has been so welcoming to me over the years. This is the 3rd book I’ve read to kids at Bookends! My previous two picture books–The Trouble With Cauliflower and Don’t Call Me Sidney–are also for sale in the store. Following the reading this Saturday, young listeners will participate in match-the-animals-to-silly-gifts games: https://www.facebook.com/events/366031316862866/

Heading for Virginia Beach!

If you know anyone who lives near Virginia Beach, tell ‘em to stop by and see me at the Lee & Bernard Jaffe Family Jewish Book Festival!

Sunday, November 3rd, 1:00 PM

I’ll be reading my new picture book, Esther’s Hanukkah Disaster, leading games matching stuffed animals to silly gifts, and answering questions about the life of a children’s book author.

Esther the Video Star

I was already excited when my publisher’s publicity coordinator alerted me that a new blog post and interview I did is up on their blog:

<http://karbenbooks.blogspot.com/>

…but then she said they made a video book trailer, available on YouTube!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw6N0NhHsZw

With articles, interviews, posts (more in the works), and now a video, I’m thinking a clothing line could be next for Esther!

Ready for Halloween

Just because my children (you know who you are!) had the nerve to grow up and move out  doesn’t mean I can’t make my Halloween buddy. Said buddy used to have a pumpkin head, but several years ago, nervy squirrels started gnawing the pumpkin buddy’s head, rendering my personification of Halloween fun, rather gruesome. Hence, the introduction of Ball Head person! The red playground ball–with a permanent marker-ed happy visage–has endured for years, smiling at trick-or-treaters no matter how humiliating its get-up. Here’s this Halloween’s stuffed hippie in my front yard.

Ad-dressing Book Recycling: So cool!

I knew it…books never die! I read an article in my local paper about an exhibit at the Drift Contemporary Art Gallery in Portsmouth, NH. When I saw one of the exhibit highlights–a recycled-Golden-books gown, I had to find it on the artist’s site:
