Behind the Lens: Redefining the Cover of Boots and Stilettos
As a photographer, I’ve developed a habit that’s both thrilling and chaotic: I hoard images. My archive, now a sprawling collection built over the last 40 years, resembles a wild zoo of memories. Some images have always begged to become book covers, but every so often, a piece demands a cover change that reflects its evolving story.
Transformation of Boots and StilettosIn this journey of creativity, I revisited boots and stilettos and made the decision to alter its cover. The narrative has grown bolder, and I realized that the imagery needed to resonate with its depth. The new cover heralds evenings of sparks at sunset, mud on heels, and crucial moments on a ranch. It encapsulates a banker deadline that bites, a quiet cowboy who’s observant, and an heiress forging her identity.
Seeking Your ThoughtsThe revamped cover pays homage to warmth and grit. I carefully adjusted the colors, tightened the crop, and selected typography that reads cleanly, especially on mobile. It feels alive, capturing the anticipation of motion before a storm. If this fresh rendition of boots and stilettos resonates with you, I’d love your feedback. If you haven’t dived into the tale yet, this is your sign to read free.
Do me a favor: tap that star, save it to your library, and share what expectations this cover conjures up. Your insights guide me in fine-tuning future updates, and trust me, this story matters to me. Join me in this exploration, and together, let’s discover what awaits!

Spending the Weekend Writing: Exciting Updates on ‘Boots and Stilettos’
This weekend has been all about creativity and passion as I’ve dove headfirst into writing additional chapters of my romance novel, Boots and Stilettos. It has been an exhilarating experience so far. I’m thrilled to share that I’ve completed 20 chapters, with the book shaping up beautifully!
Read for Free on WattpadIf you’re interested in my progress and seeing how my weekend of creativity and passion develop, you can. Also, if you want to experience this romantic tale firsthand, you can read it free on Wattpad. Each chapter is crafted with love and showcases the journey of my characters, Annie and Jake in a world filled with emotions, challenges, and, of course, love!
The Road AheadI have it all mapped out! I anticipate that Boots and Stilettos will ultimately consist of 26 chapters and around 80,000 words. Writing a romance novel is out of my comfort zone. This has made the process both challenging and delightful. I expect to wrap up this project within the next month, and I hope you find enjoyment in reading it as much as I do in writing it!

Code in the Grain
How about a Writing Contest on WattPad? Many of you know Wattpad. Some do not. It is a social platform for writers. You get to read stories and novels for free. Writers get discovered. Win win.
To make it fun, WattPad has contests from time to time. This month their contest is for you to write a very short store (under 2000 words). The trope has to be “I woke up in my own Store”. But the over all concepts needs to make readers say, “What in the WattPad”.
Sure, it’s kinda silly, but why not. I decided to enter.
Code in the GrainTitle: Code in the Grain
Read it here: https://www.wattpad.com/1571289634-code-in-the-grain
It is a tight New Orleans thriller. A photographer wakes in his darkroom. A print develops of his own character, Reed Sawyer. A cracked phone orders him to the Superdome. One shot. Hide a code in the grain. Get out alive.
It is weird on purpose. It should make you question things. That is the fun.
If you enjoy it, please tap Follow on Wattpad. Drop a Star and a short review. That helps a ton.
A Quick ExcerptI woke to the sting of fixer and the hum of a safe light. Red filled the darkroom. Trays in a row, developer, stop, fixer, rinse. ‘How did I get in the darkroom’ I thought to myself?
A sheet of fiber paper rocked facedown. I lifted a corner and watched the image climb out of white.
Canal Street. New Orleans. Pavement slick after a hard rain. A man stood mid-lane, hand raised holding an old cell phone and wearing a jacket like mine. Not just any man. Reed Sawyer, the face from my novel, Double Exposure.
I looked down. I’m wearing the exact same jacket. Same cut. Same scuffed cuff. What’s going on I thought?
A phone buzzed on the enlarger base. Old, cracked, not mine. The twin of the one in the print. The screen lit: ‘Bring your camera. Two batteries. Card wiped. Come alone.’
The safe light flickered. The print darkened. Reed’s figure thinned, then bled to black, gone. Just then another text hit: ‘Hurry, come now.’
I rushed out of the darkroom into the studio, pulled the camera off the tripod, snagged two batteries from the charger, wiped the card, pocketed the cracked phone, and stepped into rain that smelled like pennies and camphor.

Thank You and WattPad AdviceFinally, thank you for reading my writings. It sure does mean a whole lot to me. Some have told me they have problems on WattPad. They tell me that they read a chapter and then WattPad wants them to JOIN the PAID side of their platform. WELL, if you get an AD pop up or if the platform send you a message to JOIN and shows you a price to join, all you have to do is CLOSE OUT the app or web browser. Then once it’s closed, just re-open it and this will allow you to keep reading it from free.
Thank you again!!!

Boots and Stilettos – A Romance That Walks in Two Worlds
The Story Behind Boots and Stilettos‘Boots and Stilettos’ is a narrative that uniquely intertwines the ruggedness of ranch life in Montana with the opulence and glamour associated with an Italian heiress. The inspiration for this tale stems from a deep-rooted fascination with how love can flourish despite cultural and social divides. The contrasting environments of a sprawling ranch and an affluent urban lifestyle present a rich backdrop, allowing for themes of identity and family obligations to emerge organically. As I developed the characters of Antoinette ‘Annie’ Contadelucci and Jake Spyker, I wanted to explore the intricate dynamics of their differing backgrounds while emphasizing their shared yearning for acceptance and authenticity.
All about AnnieAnnie represents the struggles of adhering to familial expectations while also seeking her own path, a sentiment many can relate to. Growing up in a world of privilege brought with it expectations that weighed heavily on her shoulders. On the other hand, Jake embodies the spirit of Montana, where ranch life is about hard work and community. His character reflects the values of loyalty and perseverance, which often clash with Annie’s sophisticated upbringing. By placing these two characters in a story that unfolds against the breathtaking landscapes of Montana, I aimed to capture the dichotomy between tradition and modernity, as well as the beauty of love as it knows no bounds.
Throughout the writing process, I drew inspiration from personal experiences and various interactions with individuals from both worlds. The rich tapestry of ranch life, filled with vivid characters and vibrant culture, complements Annie’s elegant existence, making their love story even more compelling. The contrasts in their backgrounds enrich the narrative, shedding light on how love transcends societal expectations, ultimately leading to personal growth and powerful transformations. This is a testament to the idea that, regardless of how different one’s circumstances may be, love has the potential to connect individuals from all walks of life.
Meet the Characters: Annie and JakeAnnie, an Italian heiress, embodies the paradox of privilege and pressure. Raised in a world where wealth and status dictate nearly every aspect of life, she often finds herself entangled in expectations that feel suffocating. Her upbringing in a bustling city filled with opulence has instilled in her an appreciation for culture and refinement, yet it has also cultivated a yearning for something more authentic.
This longing becomes her driving force, prompting her to escape her gilded cage and embark on a soul-searching journey to the heart of Montana. Her experiences in the rural landscape contrast sharply with her prior life, allowing her to peel back the layers of her identity and explore who she truly is beyond the title of ‘heiress’.
As she navigates her feelings toward ranch life and the simplicity that comes with it, readers witness her emotional evolution, transforming from a woman defined by legacy to one who seeks genuine connections and self-discovery.
Learn about JakeIn stark contrast to Annie’s elegant background is Jake, a rugged rancher steeped in traditional values and the sturdy ethos of ranch life. Having spent his entire life in the wide-open spaces of Montana, Jake is grounded in a world that values hard work, resilience, and authenticity over the superficiality of city life.
Initially skeptical of Annie’s refined demeanor and urban upbringing, he embodies the struggle between two distinct worlds. Over time, as Annie begins to share her feelings about her life on the ranch, readers see Jake’s tough exterior soften, revealing a man capable of vulnerability and understanding.
His evolution is not just personal; it reflects the merging of their disparate worlds, as he learns to embrace the beauty of Annie’s rich heritage while introducing her to the profound simplicity and deeper connections of ranch life. As their paths inevitably converge, they forge a relationship anchored in mutual respect and a burgeoning love story that expertly navigates the complexities of their backgrounds.
Themes of Contrast: Glamour vs. GritThe narrative of ‘Boots and Stilettos‘ presents a fascinating exploration of the duality between glamour and grit, an element that is woven intricately through the fabric of the story. Set against the rugged backdrop of Montana’s sprawling landscapes, the contrast between the opulence associated with an Italian heiress and the down-to-earth realities of ranch life forms a compelling basis for the characters’ interactions. Here, the author deftly illustrates how societal values, personal expectations, and individual identities clash and intermingle, revealing the complexity of modern romance.
The character of the Italian heiress epitomizes glamour, adorned with the fineries of her wealth and status, while her counterpart, rooted in Montana’s ranch life, exudes a rugged, earthy charm often associated with hard work and resilience. This clash of lifestyles serves not only as a setting for their love story but also as a metaphor for the broader themes of untamed wilderness versus polished sophistication. Readers are invited to explore how each character navigates their differences, often leading to conflict but also opportunities for growth and understanding.
Challenges FacedThe challenges faced by these characters highlight the tensions inherent in reconciling their identities. As their worlds collide, the love story unfolds with a backdrop of breathtaking vistas and contrasting ideals. The Montana landscape, with its endless skies and rough edges, serves as a constant reminder of the grit that supports and shapes their relationship. Ultimately, it is through embracing both glamour and grit that these characters discover the richness of their experiences, drawing readers deeper into the romance. This interplay of opposing elements not only enhances the narrative arc but also engages the audience, making for a memorable exploration of love against the backdrop of modern challenges.

The Ongoing Debate: Should AI Be Used for Writing?
The ascent of artificial intelligence has sparked a lively conversation about its role in creative fields, particularly the written word. Various stakeholders—including writers, educators, and technologists—are weighing both the advantages and disadvantages of integrating AI into the writing process. This debate not only highlights the capabilities of AI but also brings up ethical considerations.
Pros of Using AIOpponents of Artificial Intelligence writing argue that the technology can enhance productivity. AI writing tools can assist in brainstorming, generating outlines, and even drafting content efficiently. By automating routine tasks, writers can focus on higher-level concepts and creativity, allowing for a potentially richer writing experience. Furthermore, these tools can analyze vast amounts of data, producing insights that can support coherent and relevant content creation.
Challenges and ConcernsHowever, the reliance on AI for writing isn’t without its pitfalls. Critics raise concerns about originality and the nuance of human expression. They argue that while AI can generate text, it lacks the human touch that ensures empathy, emotional engagement, and cultural context. Additionally, there are fears surrounding misinformation, as AI-generated content might inadvertently propagate inaccuracies if not adequately monitored.
Ultimately, the discussion around AI in writing emphasizes the need for balance. While AI can be a helpful assistant, it is vital to remember the unique qualities that human writers bring to the table. As technology evolves, so will the conversation about how we can leverage AI in writing while preserving authenticity and creativity.

Here are 10 of the best spy thrillers that deliver jaw-dropping twists, high-stakes espionage, and characters you’ll follow into the shadows.
1. The Spy Who Came in from the Cold – John le CarréThe OG of cold war intrigue. Nobody plays the long game like le Carré.

Self-Publishing? Here Are the Best Companies That Won’t Make You Regret Everything
Self-Publishing? Here are the best companies. So you’ve written a book. Congrats! That puts you in rare company—right up there with Hemingway, Tolkien, and that one guy on Facebook who keeps promising he’ll “finally finish his novel this year.”
But now comes the fun part: publishing it.
And if the idea of finding an agent or impressing a Big 5 publisher makes your eyelid twitch… self-publishing might be your best friend. Or at least a friend who doesn’t ghost you after the first date.
The catch? Not all self-publishing companies are created equal. Some are legit. Some are, well… about as trustworthy as a Wi-Fi signal at a campground.
So here’s a no-fluff, totally biased (because I care) rundown of the best self-publishing companies that actually deserve your time, your manuscript, and maybe even your money.
1. Reedsy – The Matchmaker of PublishingIf Tinder existed for authors and professional editors, it’d be called Reedsy. This isn’t a self-publishing platform per se—it’s a marketplace where you can hire vetted editors, designers, marketers, and other brilliant humans to help polish your book.
Best for: Authors who want quality help, not shady promises.
Pro tip: Use Reedsy for editing or cover design, then publish elsewhere.
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, Amazon’s the elephant in the room—wearing a crown and holding 70% of the eBook market. KDP lets you publish eBooks and print-on-demand paperbacks for free. And yes, you keep a nice chunk of the royalties.
Best for: Just about everyone. Seriously.
Pro tip: Go exclusive (KDP Select) only if you’re cool with skipping other retailers.
If KDP is your flashy younger cousin, IngramSpark is the polished older sibling who reads The New Yorker and owns a label maker. It gets your book into bookstores, libraries, and just about every place that doesn’t automatically bow to Amazon.
Best for: Authors who want bookstore distribution and a more traditional vibe.
Pro tip: You’ll need your own ISBN. And yes, they charge setup fees… but there are often promo codes floating around.
Draft2Digital is like that friend who just makes life easier. You upload your manuscript once, and it sends it to Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and more. They even format your eBook for free.
Best for: Wide distribution without the headaches.
Pro tip: Use this alongside KDP (but don’t distribute to Amazon through D2D—upload there directly).
BookBaby offers done-for-you packages that include editing, cover design, distribution, the works. It’s pricey, but you’re getting concierge service. Just… check your budget first.
Best for: Authors who want white-glove service and are willing to pay for it.
Pro tip: Be selective. Not every package is worth the price.
Photographers, artists, memoirists—this one’s for you. Blurb specializes in stunning print books, including photo books and magazines. Think coffee-table chic.
Best for: Visual-heavy books and print projects.
Pro tip: You can sell on Amazon and via Blurb’s own bookstore, but don’t expect bookstore distribution.
Lulu’s like the Swiss Army knife of self-publishing: eBooks, print books, calendars, comic books—you name it. Their quality is solid, and they’ve been around forever (in internet years, anyway).
Best for: Authors who want flexibility and custom formats.
Pro tip: It’s especially great for workbooks, spiral-bound guides, and niche print runs.
Yes, they all do similar things, but here’s the nutshell:
Blurb = Beautiful photo books.BookBaby = All-inclusive packages.Lulu = Variety and control.Pick based on your project, not just the shiny website.
Final Thoughts (And a Gentle Nudge)Self-publishing isn’t what it used to be. You don’t need to mortgage your house or bribe a literary gatekeeper to get your book out there.
But here’s the truth: your book deserves better than a cut-rate, one-size-fits-all publishing job. Whether you’re writing spy thrillers (hello!) or heart-tugging memoirs, take the time to pick the right path.
And hey—if you’re ever feeling overwhelmed, just remember: every author starts somewhere. The important thing is you started.
So finish that book. Hit publish. And send me a link—I’ll be cheering you on.
