REVIEW: Rebooting Work
[image error]
A friend recommended this book last week and luckily I got it from the library quite quickly - I had been waiting for Lean In since February! I am starting that one today.
This is a quick read, but has a lot of depth. The best tool (in my opinion) is the Worksheet to help you determine where you want your career to go. You can access it at the author's site: Maynard Webb. I recommend getting the book too so you have the background around it.
It follows thisFramework:
1. Company Man or...

A Life in Letters
[image error]
After visiting the Steinbeck Museum last year and picking up this book I finally sat down to read it and boy was it fascinating.
It was such a gift to be able to read about the man in his own words. For the first time in many years I regretted stopping writing letters. Of course, I am glad some stuff isn’t in writing! But to read the good parts and the bad parts of his life was amazing. It was also inspirational. The fact that he questioned his abilities was a surprise to me. I think we a...

I Hate My Freckles!
Do you have freckles? Some people LOVE them. I am not one of them. I have always been mortified when they appear in the summer – so much more noticeable than in the winter. Being a California girl it was embarrassing. No one ever said anything; it was entirely a personal opinion. I don’t like the red in my hair either. I have covered that up for years, but the freckles? Not much you can do. I guess the one good thing about them is that at least they give me some color.
For the past 10 yea...

Finally, a Juice I LIKE!
I have tried this 3 times and I LOVE it! I don't like most juices. First, they usually have blueberry or coconut in them and I don't like those flavors. Second, they usually don't keep you full and you end up eating more than usual. And third, they are expensive. But these 3 - enough for 3 days (I make it 4) - is less than $15 at Costco.
The Morning one is my favorite - a mixture of lemon and cayenne that is delicious. The one for lunch is your typical green juice, but it is pretty good...
Discover & Go
Another great benefit from your local library. Discover & Go is a service that provides library cardholders with free and discounted passes to local museums and cultural instituations.
Here's the list from around my area. I just found this yesterday and visited a museum today!

Finding Balance
[image error][image error]
My workout routine last month was a full month of Billy Blanks’ Ultimate Bootcamp. It was awesome. I had a great time and I really felt like I was getting a good workout. This month I decided to change it up with some Yoga – not ordinary Yoga – Yoga Meltdown with Jillian Michaels. I had tried it a few times years ago but now I do it every day. It is wonderful!
For the first time I understand “timing your breaths with the movements.”
I feel like my Sun Salutations are actually looking pr...

REVIEW: The Elements of Style
How could you not like a book with this cute dog in it? Well, it’s a grammar book – and it’s fabulous! E.B. White was my first fan letter. Not for this book of course, but the famous Charlotte’s Web. I was so excited to get a letter back. I remember it being a form letter – but it was awesome!
I am not sure about you, but I’ve heard about The Elements of Style for years. But, for me, reading a grammar book was not top on my list. First, I know I am not good at it, and second, I am not go...

Selling Yourself
[image error]
How many of us are good at selling ourselves? I am not. I know who I am so I forget others don’t know anything and I have to start to describe the person I am. I had the wish that others would look here to learn that, but no such luck. People are overwhelmed. And many won’t read even for money! It is stunning. When I come across someone I don’t know I read everything I can on him or her. I go to their website, all of their social media sites. I read and learn. I am different I guess.
I am...

List Making Changed My World
[image error]
I like to check things off my list. I will admit it. I always have, and yes, I have added things to the list that I have already done just so I could check it off. But I will admit, I really hadn’t been going by a list for quite some time. Sure, I create them, but that was the end of it. I had them everywhere, I had them in notebooks, on Trello, on my iPhone notes app…it was endless, but they were worthless.
A couple of weeks ago I decided to try weekly goals. I created a list of 25 items...
To Sell is Human by Dan Pink
Last week I read To Sell Is Human: The Surprising Truth About Moving Others by Daniel Pink,it really was eye opening and caused me to re-frame how I viewed my past experience. Lease negotiation is very much sales and I never thought of it that way before, but I realize now that all those times I spoke to attorneys I was selling my companies position. Some of the things I learned from that experience is to ask people what they want. It will most likely surprise you. And most importantly – s...
