Vintage Toy Typewriter Collection
from Stephanie Eskander's blogI collect real typewriters, this seems to be the smarter move (they take up less space & are lighter!)
Did you know, that an antique store owner once referred to typewriters as "anchors." He said, "They never sell, they just sit here for years..."
Not anymore.

What I'm Reading: DIGEST by Gregory @Pardlo
One of my favorite poems from Digest:
Written by HimselfBY GREGORY PARDLO
I was born in minutes in a roadside kitchen a skilletwhispering my name. I was born to rainwater and lye;I was born across the river where Iwas borrowed with clothespins, a harrow tooth, broadsides sewn in my shoes. I returned, thoughit please you, through no fault of my own, pockets filled with coffee grounds and eggshells.I was born still and superstitious; I bore an unexpected burden.I gave birth, I gave blessing, I gave rise to suspicion.I was born abandoned outdoors in the heat-shaped air,air drifting like spirits and old windows.I was born a fraction and a cipher and a ledger entry;I was an index of first lines when I was born.I was born waist-deep stubborn in the water crying ain’t I a woman and a brother I was bornto this hall of mirrors, this horror story I wasborn with a prologue of references, pursuedby mosquitoes and thieves, I was born passingoff the problem of the twentieth century: I was born.I read minds before I could read fishes and loaves;I walked a piece of the way alone before I was born.
Poem above from Digest, Four Way Books & Winner of the Pulitzer Prize
RECOMMENDED!
From Epicurus to Sam Cook, the Daily News to Roots, Digest draws from the present and the past to form an intellectual, American identity. In poems that forge their own styles and strategies, we experience dialogues between the written word and other art forms. Within this dialogue we hear Ben Jonson, we meet police K-9s, and we find children negotiating a sense of the world through a father's eyes and through their own.
"A brainy, compassionate book (Pardlo’s second) that uses a pleasingly large stylistic palette to paint a portrait of fatherhood, racial politics and Brooklyn before it became a place to buy $30 glasses of bourbon."--David Orr, The New York Times"A bright-red thread of fatherhood runs through this book-at times tenuous, at times mythic-always searching and revelatory, grounded in our present moment while wrestling with eternity-a thrilling, brilliant, and deeply moving ride."--Nick Flynn

Something I thought you'd like:
As a hopeless lover of both letters and famous advice, I was delighted to discover a letter 20-year-old Hunter S. Thompson — gonzo journalism godfather, pundit of media politics, dark philosopher — penned to his friend Hume Logan in 1958.

How to Map An Imaginary World (for writers)
I don't normally write books that have a physical imaginary world, mostly just in my head, but I love this idea from Melissa Taylor:
Perhaps start with a map of your own yard or town, but pepper it with magic trees, secret tunnels, fairy castles, and tongue-twisting words for ordinary places.Make a list of all the things one might find on a map, and see how many you can fit in:Mountains and hillsRivers, waterfalls, swamps, lakes, and oceansCavesCities and villagesForestsFarmlandRoadsHaunted housesTree housesCountries with strange namesSecret entrances to underground citiesBridges with trolls under themCastlesFortsRobot factoriesHarbors with shipsBuried giantsMonsters’ lairs. . . .

The Daily Poet Journal: For Writers Who Want to Write a Poem-a-Day!
New from Two Sylvias Press!
So many people had The Daily Poet: Day-By-Day Prompts For Your Writing Practice, a book I co-authored with Martha Silano, but we kept hearing a request for a companion journal so you could write the poems in a designated place each day.
I am happy to say Two Sylvias Press listened and created The Daily Poet Companion Journal!
DESCRIPTION
Created by poets for poets, The Daily Poet Companion Journal is designed to be used in conjunction with The Daily Poet: Day-By-Day Prompts For Your Writing Practice. Comprising over 370 pages with prompt titles, this journal provides space for poems, creative ideas, inspired doodles, and monthly writing goals.
The Daily Poet Companion Journal will become a poem diary of your year, capturing and organizing what you’ve been inspired to write. In a world of smart phones and computers, this journal is a reminder of the importance of pen to paper—your poems are waiting to be released on these pages and sent out into the world.Available here, 7" x 10" & over 370 pages, $14
****QUESTION: Can this be used on its own WITHOUT the Daily Poet?
Answer: Yes! It's a blank book with dated pages, the title of the prompts and space for goals & notes. It could easily be used to write a poem a day using the prompt title as a jumping off point OR just writing your own poem based on whatever you like!__________________
And here's what started it all
