Book launch for A Dali Sketchbook

My book launch for A Dali Sketchbook, Saturday 24th @Hilton Library. All in Chinese I’m afraid, but on the plus side – free cake!

My book A Dali Sketchbook is now out!

My book A Dali Sketchbook 《大理外传》 has now been published. It is a journal and travel guide to the prefecture of Dali in Yunnan province, covering everything from food to history, wildlife, plants, local customs – anything I ran into and thought was interesting, basically.

I wrote the book in Chinese, and we’re in the process of finding a publisher for the English version.

Shakespeare and Tang Xianzu silk scarf

To celebrate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare and the Chinese playwright Tang Xianzu (汤显祖), I drew the image for this commemorative silk scarf:

I chose Midsummer Night’s Dream and the Peony Pavilion, as they feature so many of the same themes and characters and were written just a few years apart.

This was part of a box set that includes the text of both plays, designed by the amazing Suo Di at Penguin Books. It is truly a thing of beauty:

Travels Through Dali by Zhang Mei

This is a food travelogue, the full title is “Travels through Dali with a leg of ham”. Lots of gorgeous photos, and I did a bit: Two maps and chapter title spot illustrations (also on the cover). Book design by the amazing Suo Di, who also did the Shakespeare silk scarf set.
