Guest Blogger: Author Marguerite Kaye

Next up on the Romance Author Extravaganza guest blog series is the brilliant Marguerite Kaye, whose historical romances transport us in time. The floor is yours, Marguerite!

Checking the Facts
I love historical research. I love finding out strange and interesting facts, and I love incorporating real-life events and people into my stories. But how much history do you really need in a historical romance?
A little goes a long way. There’s nothing worse than a history lesson in the middle of a rom...

Start with Character
Thanks so much, Libby, for having me here! I thought I’d talk about character today, because I get asked about creating characters all the time.
Lots of writers come up with an idea for a book but then aren’t quite sure where to go from there. I always start with character, and by doing that, the book becomes character driven, rather...

Guest Blogger: Author Kimberly Lang

Kicking off the Romance Authors Extravaganza today is the one and only Kimberly Lang, whose sizzling romances consistently hit the bestseller lists. Over to you, Kimberly!

Hi and thanks for having me here today!

I'm just back from a reader convention in beautiful Gatlinburg, Tennessee. As always, I'm completely exhausted - too much fun will do that to you - but energized as well. There's nothing quite like spending time with Readers to remind me that this writing gig isn't just about me, and I...

Lovestruck by Lisa Scott's Wedding Flirts!

‘Tis the Season
It’s that time of year again: we’re all getting our nails done and strapping on our dancing shoes to watch our friends and loved ones march down the aisle. Or perhaps some of us are marching down the aisle ourselves. In the spirit of the season, I figured I’d blog about Lisa Scott’s Wedding Flirts, which I, for one, fell head over heels in love with.

Wedding Flirts is a collection of five romantic short stories. These sweet – and often hilarious tales – are fine as stand-alones...

What IS it About Paris?

As you may have deduced from the cover, a large chunk of Fashioning a Romance takes place in Paris. I didn’t know I’d send my characters there when I first started writing the story, but I needed to get them out of London and the City of Love seemed like the obvious destination. Paris truly is the most romantic city in the world. Well… it’s the most romantic city I’ve ever been to.
I must admit, I wasn’t all that stoked about going there my first time. Confession time: don’t laugh but… I thin...

Representin' for the Tall Girls

In romantic fiction, there are certain characteristics that are pretty much mandatory for our heroes to possess. They’ve got strong personalities and they’ve got hard names – Jake, Luke, Jack. You’d be hard pressed to find a Trevor, an Elijah or a Julian as your romantic hero. Our heroes also, virtually without fail, have got impressive height.
Our heroines can be any height, but they’re generally average or below average when it comes to stature. I cannot count the number of times I’ve read s...

Chick Lit Author Blog Hop 2012 - The Incomparable Bernadette Strachan

A few years ago, I was browsing in Borders (RIP Borders) when I happened upon a book with the most adorable cover. It featured a woman with flippy hair, a flippy skirt, a little dog and a parasol amidst several colorful beach umbrellas. Naturally I picked up this book, Little White Lies by Bernadette Strachan. I read the back copy, smiled and headed straight for the register.
Fast-forward a couple of months and I was the proud owner of all the books Ms. Strachan had had published.  And sh...
