Sunday Snippet

This is from the upcoming The Unicorn & The Serpent which is a Fantasy Romance.

Cormack wanted their first meeting with the visitors to be very formal, very royal. Morgan had never had to act so in all her life, not even when her mother was alive. He sat on his throne, dressed like a king. Well, that is what he told Morgan. She had never seen such an outfit. It had a small fur cape, dyed red, attached by a big silver broach. His shirt was trimmed with lace, and the top of his boots were wrapped in more red rabbit fur. She and Agnes sat on their thrones, but they were not as dressed up as he. Agnes the Red looked like the queen she used to be, and Morgan felt more like a doll that had been dressed by four young servant girls playing house. Both women were very grumpy from all the work.                The visitors arrived on time, as they had written. Three boxes on wheels pulled up to the castle entrance. Six finely dolled-up horses for each box. The townspeople had never seen anything like it. The door guards stared, bemused at the sight of them. The coachmen got off their wooden seats. One opened the door and the other got on his hands and knees.                “Odd bunch,” Demus whispered.                “Agreed,” Hector replied.                “Hush, you two,” Grady said.                A man came out using the man on the ground as a stepping stool. He turned and helped his wife out. He was very skinny and short. He was pale as fresh white snow, as if he never dared to venture out in the sun. His blondish-brown hair was cut straight around his head to his ears; it almost hid his dull blue eyes. He wore breeches and a shirt with an abundance of ruffles and lace. His sleeves puffed out to the elbows and ended in more ruffles.                His wife had on layers of clothes. It looked as if she was wearing ten dresses in one. All her body was covered in either cloth or lace. She wore a giant necklace. It looked heavy, as if she would need help walking around with it. Her hair was a golden brown, done up in a bun and fastened together by her small golden crown. Her skin, too, was very white, but whiter than the king’s, for she used a powder. Her lips were bright red, as were her cheeks. Her laced hands wrapped around her husband’s arm, as she looked around with hazel eyes.                “Very muddy, I hope I do not get any on my frock. It is very dull, too. Too many trees and fields. It is like our trips into the country. We should have stayed in the city.”                He patted her lacy hand. “Calm yourself, dear. It is dull, but I am sure we will find the hospitality very genteel.”                “I do hope you are right. Where is my Philip? Philip, come now, to my side.”                “Coming, Mother,” said a very bored, high-pitched voice.                A man, the age of Morgan, came out of the box. He looked around with his own blue eyes. He looked exactly like his father, from his hair to his clothing. He was a bit shorter, like his mother. “Father, I do not like this place.”

Twelve Sentence Saturday

I am taking part in 12 Sentence Saturday. This Saturday is Space Rebels! [image error] The Moon had  ten refilling stations, and about three of them were monopolized by Earth. Or rather the GO, Galactic Order. So they called themselves down there on Earth. Tyrants, most called them up in the colonies. But their beliefs were slowly spreading through the Solar System. Some feared that the civil war plaguing Earth would venture up into space. Some fearful people went through measures to try and leave the Solar System altogether. Some had ventured out beyond Pluto, and the very earliest explorers had yet to be heard from. Colonies out further from the Moon were still pretty much untouched by the GO. Some of them were on certain moons to drill for fuel and metals, all which were shipped back to Earth and Mars. Mars, on the other hand, was pressured heavily by the civil war. And there were people who feared that the war would be there any day now.

Donating...

I decided that I will donate my first royalty check for each book published to a needy cause. Space Rebel's went to  http://hope2013.weebly.com/. I have been following these real superheroes for a while. I love them and what they are doing. So if you want to help them out too buy a bracelet or two or three. Your little bit will go to make someone happy and possibly save their life.

Halfway point!

I hit the halfway point of The Opposite Side right now. Almost there!! So here is a snippet:

The Wolves housed themselves in the Tioga Hotel, one of the oldest buildings in town. It stood eight stories tall towards the end of Main Street. The place had recently been repainted, a nice off white with green trimming, to match some of the businesses it housed along the bottom. Usually all the scum hung out around the Tioga. The Wolves made money by dealing drugs, pimping out their females, and other illegal things.            Patrick stopped the car on M Street. They all looked over at the old hotel. “You sure you want to do this?”            “If Rich locked me up, he was doing it for Jonathan. And I want to know what’s going on,” Leslie said as she got out of the car. Patrick and Colin got out as well. As she walked up to the hotel, the smell of barbeque filled the air as they passed by the Tioga Café and walked into the court yard. A blind old black man sat by the door.            “Leslie, he’s busy,” the man said as she walked by.            “Oh well,” she said passing him by.            “We don’t like bears in our place,” he said as Patrick passed.            He ignored the man and followed behind Leslie. Patrick hated the wolves just as everyone in his pack did but he hated them more because of being a Supervisor and busting them every month for something dumb they did. They walked into the hotel. The inside was a mess of red color and old smelly furniture. A human would be turned off by the old smell of liquor and stale cigarette smoke that lingered in the air. Wolves lounged around playing cards, dice, drinking, flirting. They all went quiet when the three entered.            Leslie, wearing her usual, jeans, t-shirt and hoody, didn’t even pause. She made her way to the elevator, and hit the button. Her foot tapped the dirty carpet that had lost its original color many years ago.
