The Women of The Walking Dead

To celebrate Women's History Month, I wrote a piece over on Alternating Current's The Spark celebrating the women of The Walking Dead and commenting on the possible need of a zombie apocalypse to bring about true gender equality. (aka- Everyone is Badass....) Take a look!

Southwest Florida Reading Festival

Yesterday I participated in the Southwest Florida Reading Festival in Ft. Myers, Florida and had a blast. I was even quoted in the Naples Herald today as saying so. :) If you're in Florida, but weren't able to make it out, I'll be in Orlando next month at the UCF Book Festival. Good times!

Spring Break 2015

Last year at this time, I was putting in 12 hour days, every day of spring break, finishing up a manuscript. This year, I have spent the past few days completing revisions on that same manuscript for my agent. It's been a much less stressful time and I've been able to feel like I'm actually taking a "break."

Here's what I haven't been doing:
-Administering writing tests
-Stressing about the writing tests
-Working with teenagers
-Waking up at 5am
-Going to bed before 9pm
-Eating as much as I should (but that's pretty normal)

Here's what I HAVE been doing:
-Reading modernist literature while laying under a canopy of trees
-Writing (of course)
-Obsessing about Eddie Redmayne and tracking down and watching every film he's ever made
-Drinking wine
-Thinking and clearing my head
-Taking the dogs out on the town
-Finding a strange and beautiful sense of peace

It's a different spring break this year. But I'm digging it, that's for sure.

                                                   (Adding to my previous obsessions...)

Mustcat Tales (A Book Review of A Tree Born Crooked)

This review of A Tree Born Crooked comes all the way from Muscat, Oman. And I think it might have made me blush. But, I tell you, I'm a sucker for a well-thought out, well-analyzed and well-written book review.

Here's an excerpt:

"The three protagonists land with feet firmly in their respective archetypes. ‘Rabbit’ hops from the page through the writer’s deftness of brush, as vulnerable as Steinbeck’s Lenny and seemingly headed for as grisly a fate. James’ taciturn solidity places him in a line of heroes from his namesake, Dean and back as far as old English warrior Beowulf. The character of Marlena is tough yet compassionate; her words half-way, a window through which to view the locked-in world view of all three: ‘We can’t escape who we are.’ "
