stubborn piles of dirty snow

refuse to melt in spite

of a persistent April sun

Robins skitter across

brownish grass

A crow calls from the woods

and chickens bob their heads

in anticipation of liberation.

A streetlight

flickers to life

at end of day

the last bedraggled

commuter sputters home

to porch-lights, digital clocks,

microwaves and television

the permanent glow

from the home computer monitors

whisper to us of comfort

and of knowledge hijacked

at humanities insistence

the impatience signified

by the streetlight

as it flickers out

at first light of day.

A WIP finds encouragement!

A Gentle Knight was pricking on the plaine,

Y cladd in mightie armes and silver shielde,

Wherein old dints of deepe wounds did remaine,

The cruell markes of many a bloudy fielde;

Yet armes till that time did he never wield:

His angry steede did chide his foming bitt,

As much disdayning to the curbe to yield:

Full jolly knight he seemd, and faire did sitt,

As one for knightly giusts and fierce encounters fitt.

Edmund Spenser

Offshore Canyons

“But what if I fail of my purpose here? It is but to keep the nerves at strain, to dry one’s eyes and laugh at a fall, and baffled, get up and begin again.”

Robert Browning

#NationalBookLoversDay

Here is a shameless plug for my poetry collection published in 2012.

Compass

I used Outskirts Press, knew very little and spent a lot of money.

It was a good learning experience for sure.

I am currently working on a new collection of poetry which will be titled, “Cicadas”. I am using CreateSpace for this for the first time and I like it so far.

Also in the works is a collection of short stories, “Hostages and Other People”, and a stand alone sci-fi/ horror work I am tentatively calling, “Whispers”.

Stay tuned!

More to come….

its never so simple

black and white

right and wrong

this complex combination

that is us

the kindness and the cruelty

the hope and the despair

I see it in her painting

or his words spoken into air

comfort in the knowledge

that the dark mountain

of the thunderheads

will give way eventually

to the ever present sun.

Four 24

The modern gypsies arrive

midday

to back- in and plug-in

set-up and wash-up

solar panels gleam

in the afternoon light

capturing the moment

the sublime paradox

of their motley

four wheeled renaissance.

Four 22

Grass grows up

between sun bleached

ribs and pelvis

Leaf litter lays

obscured by its insistence

New days rise up

upon the bones of the past

rejoice

in your moment

before the moment has passed.
