Secret Friends

Just released Secret Friends: The Ramblings of a Madman in Search of a Soul by H. M. Forester. First draft edition, 180 pages.

Secret Friends: The Ramblings of a Madman in Search of a Soul is available for free download as a PDF:

https://sherpoint.uk/sherpoint/review...

The writer and thinker Idries Shah laid out his contemporary, Western projection of the Sufi Way in a great many books over the years, and Secret Friends draws, in part, on the inner experiences of Robert Llewelyn George in his faltering attempts to follow that mystical path.

The intrepid psychonaut, Carl Gustav Jung also documents his own inner travels in his Red Book, and later in his published journals, the Black Books.

This, then, you might call Louie’s Little Green Book.

I wouldn’t know where to start in writing a blurb, my dear reader, to give you a better idea of what this book is about, except to say that all the books (including the mystical adventures written as Etienne de L'Amour) have this one surprising thing in common: the largely unsuspected presence of the Hidden World and of the “Secret Friends” who are here to help us in our hour of need.

But, dear reader, should you eventually arrive at the conclusion that this work is little more than the incoherent ramblings of a madman in search of sanity, then that’s fine by us; and were this book not given to you free of charge, then you would be fully entitled to demand your money back. But if the work touches your heart in some way, then please feel free to pass it on.

Re-enchantment in a Material World

My new blog post, “Re-enchantment in a Material World” is an attempt to roughly map-out some #imaginal territory and to leave a trail of breadcrumbs to follow. As ever, this is no more than a “work-in-progress” ...

Readers of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials and especially The Book of Dust may find this of interest.

The ishrāqī institute Facebook group

The ishrāqī institute has a new (private) Facebook group for folk interested in the work and “invisible college” of Iain McGilchrist (The Master and His Emissary: The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World), Henry Corbin (imaginal world), Tom Cheetham (The World Turned Inside Out; Green Man, Earth Angel; All the World an Icon; Imaginal Love), James Hillman (Re-visioning Psychology), Peter Kingsley (Reality; Catafalque: Carl Jung and the End of Humanity), Gary Lachman (Lost Knowledge of the Imagination; The Secret Teachers of the Western World), Carl Jung (active imagination; individuation), et al.

Of particular, core interest to the ishrāqī institute is traditional wisdom, not only of the East but especially the lost knowledge and traditions of the West, such as the pre-Socratic philosophers, Neoplatonism, the Renaissance, Romanticism, and a return to imagination, depth and soul.

According to Steingass’s dictionary, in Persian ishrāq means “Rising (of the sun); sun-rise, morning; splendour, lustre, and beauty” and ishrāqī means “Of or pertaining to sun-rise; eastern, oriental; having the splendour of the East.” It also has links to the philosopher Suhrawardī, who founded the Persian school of Illuminationism which is a school of philosophy (and way of being) that flowered in Islam and draws upon Zoroastrian and Platonic ideas. Here, “Oriental” refers not to the geographical East but (according to Henry Corbin), to the mystical, Celestial Orient, the heavenly Pole.

You can find the ishrāqī institute group here.

Game of Aeons, republished for Kindle

Again with a little less hoo-hah than Brexit, I'm delighted to reveal that the mystical sci-fi adventure, Game of Aeons, a short novel by H.M. Forester has been revised, edited, reformatted and has now been republished for the Kindle.

Young Robin Hargreaves is looking for something to occupy his time and spice up his life. Apparently by chance, whilst perusing the wares in a second-hand shop, he is introduced to Game of Aeons, a computer simulation.

In the game, he meets up with a young lady, Ellie, who takes him under her wing. Despite her youth, Ellie has risen to the ranks of a veteran in the game and as well as a loving heart, she has a wise head on her shoulders.

Robin soon discovers that like life itself, Games of Aeons is not all beer and skittles. As he becomes more and more involved and immersed in the game, it becomes increasingly real and at times frightening. But by the time he realizes this, it is too late to back out and there is too much at stake – not only in-game but also in what we commonly and mistakenly think of as the Real World.

As it turns out, though Robin initially has no inkling of this, the game leads Robin to the greatest open secret that the world has ever known.

All the books (including the mystical adventures written as Etienne de L'Amour) have this one surprising thing in common: the largely unsuspected presence of the Hidden World and of the "Secret Friends" who are here to help us in our hour of need.

This book has been revised, edited, reformatted and republished for the Kindle on 14 February 2019.

Game of Aeons is a short, 60,000 word novel in the genre of soft science fiction. Like the in-story game of the same name, the book is more about people rather than technology, so you don't need a degree in quantum physics to understand and enjoy it. Nor is it a shoot 'em up, so you don't need an interest in computer gaming.

Escape from the Shadowlands

Escape from the Shadowlands (Shadowlands, #3) by Etienne de L'Amour With a little less fanfare than the Royal Wedding, I'm delighted to reveal that the mystical scifi adventure, Escape from the Shadowlands , the first book in the series which I wrote ten years ago under the pseudonym Etienne de L'Amour, has been revised, edited, reformatted and has now been republished for the Kindle.

The book is available for download at:
Amazon UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0079Q8WZ8
Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0079Q8WZ8

Although preceded by a historical prequel and a prequel, this book is best read first.

Any help with spreading the message would be an enormous help and greatly appreciated. Thank you!

“Why am I here?”

“Why am I here?” is a question we sometimes ask ourselves.

What if we take a step back from there to the question of “Why is there 'something'? Why not simply 'absolute nothingness'?”

I can only imagine that this is because there exists an inherent (and self-evidential) possibility or potential of “something” existing, and able to manifest under the right conditions. This reminds me of Schrödinger's cat.

In other words, we have not emerged from the ground of some futile void, but from a fertile void, and the presence of an observer, and consciousness itself, may well be two of the requirements for manifestation.

As the famous, mystical hadith qudsi tells us: “I was a hidden treasure and wanted to be known.”
