Jeremy Jahns and His Ignorant Review of “Am I Racist”

Jeremy Jahns is one of the more popular film critics on YouTube. An aspect that some might attribute to his success is his that he is unbiased. He doesn’t seem to cave to the culture war grift for easy views, nor does he seem to be more critical of the politics surrounding films. As I’ve observed from his many fans, they seem to favor him as the unbiased critic more in tune with the average movie-goer.

While this perceived mindset might be satiating enough for reviews of superhero movies and...

“A Different Man” Review

Much like Aaron Schimberg’s previous film, A Different Man centers around the actor and doesn’t shy away from his noticeable condition of neurofibromatosis. This film is compelling because Adam plays a man who exists less as a centerpiece of a tired disorder drama but instead, as a supporting voice which the subgenre into the crosshairs of scrutiny. This is more of a cautionary tale, where the fortunate protagonist who undergoes a miracle cure is punished for insecurities rather th...

“Kite Man: Hell Yeah!” Season 1 Review

It might sound baffling that among all the absurd characters from the Harley Quinn cartoon, Kite Man gets his own spin-off. In truth, Kite Man might be the most interesting villain to explore further. He started off as an obnoxious dude-bro whose ruthless enthusiasm worked its magic into Poison Ivy’s life. His budding romance in season one and breakup in season two revealed a surprising amount of growth. Not being a part of Ivy’s life after season two, he moved onto a better relationship. Since...

“Bad River” (2024) Review

There’s a case to be made for how Bad River approaches an immediate problem with a broad sense of history. The presence of a pipeline threatening the Bad River Reservation in Wisconsin looks like a clear case of fighting back against a corporation threatening the environment. In a perfect world, the aged pipeline that could pollute Lake Superior would be promptly removed. But we don’t. We live in a world where topics like this get buried in court, and the sovereignty of Native Americans is subj...

“Speak No Evil” (2024) Review

I am afraid that I must become “that guy” and decry that this American remake is not as good as its Danish source material. That might not seem fair to this strictly-English language version of Speak No Evil, but it’s impossible to shake the night and day comparisons. The original 2022 Danish film felt like a brutal and gruesome psychological exploration of family and passive-aggressive relationships. The 2024 remake treats this material more like a rollercoaster ride, bound for more laughs tha...

“Rebel Ridge” Review

Flatrate 4k Netflix Flatrate Flatrate hd Netflix basic with Ads Flatrate Source: JustWatch

At first glance, Rebel Ridge has all the warning signs of another bland Netflix-style foray into routine action. This film, however, is directed by the skillful Jeremy Saulnier, a director who knew how to wield a...

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” Review

Not available on any streaming platforms. Source: JustWatch

There’s a marvel to the mess within this Beetlejuice legacy sequel. It aims with a familiar arsenal of the macabre and the absurd, with wielding this old material like a shotgun. The splatter would be annoying if it weren’t for Burton’s direction to smear the ensemble of dark hues in some clever ways. It’s a case of stylish horror designs trumping the topp...

Kids Should Have Watched Zeta Gundam

For many American millennials, their first experience with the Gundam franchise was Gundam Wing. It debuted on Cartoon Network in March 2000 and was unlike anything else on the channel’s afternoon block, Toonami. The series dealt with political and philosophical ideas of colonization, warfare, and human nature. These were all garden-variety themes for Gundam, and they weren’t as robust when presented in Gundam Wing, but the young audience didn’t know that.

Gundam had previously been released...
