Sunday Snippet: Domino Effect
Gotta say it's so hard to have my youngest's senior year be put on indefinite hold. So far, the musical is cancelled, which is to be expected. Prom is postponed for now. Graduation is up in the air as far as walking to get a diploma. She's handling it pretty well all things considered. I'm very proud of the level of maturity she's showing.
Not a bad week for television but slower than usual. I've been taking on as much work as I can in case the well runs dry there. Who knows how long the quarantine will last?
I can safely say I'm disgusted by the fact Hiram is a free man on Riverdale. And I'm beyond "meh" about a long-lost daughter showing up. I am very intrigued by the whole flash-forward cut scenes at the end of each episode. I'm very interested to see where those go.
Caught another episode of Danger Man, which started season two for me. I guess I didn't realize the second season went to hour-long episodes. I'm not sure I've seen any of those.
Watched the season two premiere of Roswell, New Mexico. I'll be brutally honest … I'm really not sure I'm down with the whole "let's kill Max" concept. For now, I'm trusting the creator but if I'm let down with where things go, I'll be done watching. I do love Michael's journey so far. I'm not thrilled Maria is still completely clueless about the alien angle, but I'll see how that plays out also. I love where Alex and Kyle are right now. Here's hoping I'm not completely let down by this show.
On a very happy note, I'm in the middle of watching Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears and it's so, so good. I'd read reviews that implied it didn't measure up to the series, but, in all honesty, I'm actually pretty pleased with I'm seeing so far. Considering this movie happened because fans were more than happy to crowd source the filming, I'd say the general public can zip it.
That's pretty much it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Domino Effect, a novella that got a start with a writing community prompt.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Every action Frank and Katya take pushes a reaction out of the other. And like dominos, one barrier crashes into the next until nothing is left but a tangle of emotions they have to deal with.
And a sneaky peek…
They had finally let go of each other and turned for their discarded clothes. Frank hadn’t been able to coherently put words together. He rarely could when in close proximity to Katya. So he remained silent. He feared anything he said would ruin the wonderful feeling he experienced at finally being released from the past and letting Katya in. He cast a furtive look in her direction and the utter sadness on her face almost did him in. She slowly met his gaze and he thought maybe he had imagined what he’d seen because a smile, warm but tentative, spread across lips. She started to speak. “You know, Frank…” She stopped, catching his eyes trained on her legs smoothly sliding into her pants and she shot him a look.He shook himself and blinked when she continued. “Sometimes we make the wrong decision for the right reason.”He met her gaze again, and realized she was halfway dressed and he was still standing there like a lump. He nodded for her to go on, while he scrambled into his own pants.“We can’t take it back once we’ve acted on it.” Her tanks were back on and she paused. “The only thing we can do is own it.” Her arms slid into her shirtsleeves. “Learn from it.” She shrugged the rest of the way into the fatigue shirt. “And move on.”Not sure where she was going with her words, he paused in his dressing to shoot her a questioning glance. Her next words really threw him. “Sometimes our mind makes a choice that hurts our heart.” She moved to stand in front of him. “You’re gonna need to remember that and keep it in mind.” Then she leaned in kissed him with a gentle passion. “I’ll see you out there.” And then she left, leaving him wondering what the hell lurked in that scary brain of hers. Cryptic words aside, there was an almost final note to her kiss that had him worried. He finished dressing with the intention of tracking her down to make sure she was alright, when another thought hit him. He hadn’t actually said he’d forgiven her … maybe she thought he was still judging her. Or, she could be having regrets for what happened between them. If that were the case, he decided to wait until after the flight test to bring it up. She needed to be on her game for the X-Fury test flight and things were almost always volatile between them, even on a good day. He’d wait until they got back. Except Katya hadn't returned with him.And he wondered if he'd pushed her into leaving. It always seemed to play out that way with them. They'd get close to something and Frank would hold back. Not because he didn't want her, he did, sometimes to the point of distraction. He reined it in because her father warned him. Never hurt his daughter.Frank would never intend to, but Gregor's concern gave Frank pause. Tripped him up and colored more than a few on his interactions with Katya. The constant push pull between them created friction. A lot of friction. Mostly the good kind … but sometimes not. Katya kept Frank off balance and he needed that, yet she also pushed hard when she wanted something and they'd go at it. Round and round, up, down, back, forth, and sideways. He'd leave to cool off and she'd follow … until he stopped, shot her his 'later, dammit' glare and wham! Her mouth snapped shut and she'd back off.Frank couldn't do that with anyone else. Take five—or, hell, thirty—minutes to pull his thoughts back in and pick up right where they left off. But the break would see both calm, rational, and in control. Thank god he didn't have to do it with anyone else. The ability to connect with her on such an elemental level had him finally giving in and deciding he wanted more with Katya. But he wanted to speak with Gregor first, let the man know Frank wanted Katya for keeps … if she'd have him. He respected his mentor enough to lay it out, but the ball would be in Katya's court. She'd make the call.
This one is coming along and I'm hoping to find some extra time to finish it up.
That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.

Sunday Snippet: Domestic Partners
We're entering week … eh, I'm not even sure … of the social distancing and I'm truly hoping we start to see the case numbers come down. We're doing what we can to stay inside and away from others. We do try to order from our local restaurants a night or two a week to help support the establishments.
Had a slower than normal week of television viewing. I started out by finishing up Strike Back's third episode. I'm very excited for the rest of the season. I also caught the declassified short for this episode.
I started a new episode of Blue Heelers and hope to finish it this upcoming week. So far, I'm truly enjoying this show.
Watched the end of a Gargoyles episode and got two more in. I don't remember Xanatos being such a cheesy villain when I watched this show with my oldest. Man, he is one though.
Started the first season of The Witcher. Gotta say I'm intrigued. Here's hoping the rest of the season measures up.
For fun, I watched the blooper reel for Dirty, Sexy Saint and laughed out loud a couple of times. I love how much behind the scenes Passionflix shares with its members.
Caught another episode of Arrow. I'm not sure if it's because I know it's ending or if the writing has just kicked it up a notch but I can honestly say I end up getting all choked up with tears in every episode so far. We're getting to the home stretch so I don't expect that to change.
Also watched another episode of Murdoch Mysteries and thoroughly enjoyed it. Having the ladies take center stage was much appreciated. I'm a little intrigued by Violet showing her sharpened teeth, which probably won't bode well for William and Julia in the next two episodes. That said, I'll be happy if Miss Violet Hart ends up going down in flames. I'm not a fan.
And that's pretty much it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Domestic Partners, a novella that got a start with a writing community prompt.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Tabby and Hale pretend to be domestic partners to keep the man who killed her husband from getting his hands on her. But when they're forced to live together, sparks and tempers fly, because Tabby broke a promise she made to Hale and he's not going to let her forget it.
And a sneaky peek…
Hale nuzzled her. "We don't have to worry. We can get by for at least a few months on our small stipends." His voice drifted toward sleep.Tabby couldn't live that way. Growing up hand to mouth, she needed to earn a steady paycheck. Accepting the trifling amount the exploration corps allotted for their recruitment classes, didn't sit easily with Tabby. And, even if the explorers called and accepted them into the actual program, it would be three months of hard mental training and lots of studying.Hale had the brainpower to pass anything. Tabby didn't have the same confidence. And if she failed … what then? A contingency plan. One she already had in place by signing on to work the mining colony. At least until they knew for certain about the explorer unit, which could take three to six months. Waiting games weren't her thing at all. Not knowing if the corps would call the next day or hundreds of days from now drove her crazy. But … she hadn't told Hale about the possible job. And her gut screamed she'd get a summons within the week. The colony always needed workers for the mines. The pay sucked, but the take home doubled what the corps meted out for recruits.Turning onto her back, she stared at the ceiling. She'd cross that chasm when necessary. Why make an issue of something that might or might not happen? Because Hale deserves to know. Yeah, he probably did. But, dammit, they'd fight again. All because she wanted more from life and didn't want to wait.Am I being selfish?Hale didn't really have a clue what growing up without a safety net did to a person. Love and support were second nature for him. For her? They equaled hard work. Something she didn't fear, but the niggling thought Hale would be better off without her dragging him down popped up in her mind a lot. She'd worry later. If and when a call came through.
This one is moving along at a very slow clip. I know all the beats but the sages are being particular about the details. Here's hoping I get some time to dive in and really connect to the story.

Sunday Snippet: Dodging Reality
Gotta say, the whole limiting of physical distance and having my youngest's senior year pretty much cancelled is both easier and harder than I thought it would be. I have three people in the house who are pretty much deemed essential workers. One is in food production and the other two are grocery workers. If the reins get tighter on limiting movement, I'm pretty sure they won't get a break.
For me, as someone who's worked from home for the past decade or so, it's business as usual for the most part. I have more interruptions than usual but otherwise, my routine hasn't changed overmuch. There's something comforting in that.
Had a semi-decent week of watching television. I finished up the Heart Guy from last week and I'll give it a go. I have a feeling this one is going to have messy relationships and I always like train-wreck shows.
Also caught another arc of Classic Who. It's always fun to see the effects from the late sixties and early seventies. Doctor Who isn't any better or worse for shows of its time.
Watched another episode of Peak Practice and enjoyed it. I'm finally starting to get into the relationships and getting to know the villagers. I love the scenery in the show.
Caught the livestream of the Dropkick Murphysconcert on St. Patrick's Day. Terrific show and highly entertaining. I hope to catch some of the Broadway shows that are available for streaming also.
Watched the rest of season one of Danger Man. I'll be starting season two in the upcoming week.
Started episode three of Strike Back. Nice to have a familiar face back in the fold. Also, Chetri is really growing on me. She's got quite a personality and interacting more as an equal with the rest of the team. I love that.
That's pretty much it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Dodging Reality, a novella that got a start with a writing community prompt.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Take a reality show set on the front lines in space, add a brash reporter who wants the down and dirty secrets of the crew—and will stop at nothing to get them—and mix it up with a couple fighting their attraction while protecting their pilots from the ratings hound. Stir in a little backstabbing from the camera man and the outcome is Dodging Reality.
And a sneaky peek…
"I can't do it. I can't find the trap." Captain Caro Williams watched her normally excellent pilot bring her bird down with a horrible crunch—so much for talking Lorraine "Jazz" Jazinski through the landing. Caro held back the string of expletives that rolled through her mind when the bent craft lowered down from the landing bay to the hangar deck. She'd save the ass kicking for later. Maybe a good verbal lashing would snap Lorraine out of the funk she'd been in. Whatever the case, Jazz had some major explaining to do … if she hadn't been injured in that total crap landing. Caro dashed out of the LSO's station and took off at a run. A film crew followed, hot on her heels. Not an embedded crew who knew to stay out of the way when the ship came under fire. The ones who usually made award-winning documentaries about life in the military. Nope. The team her people got stuck with loved nothing more than asking lame-ass questions at inappropriate times—only to spin the answers into something unrecognizable. Led by a harpy of a woman reporter, Monique Presley, they seemed to be on it twenty-four seven. Whoever thought making a reality show during a time of war a good idea oughtta be shot. Not that any of the top brass would ever own the decision. Caro figured they should all face a firing squad for the complete act of stupidity. Better yet, they could come out to the front lines and fly the damn missions with a camera shoved in their face. See how they liked it.The cameraman almost caught up to Caro. She snarled under her breath. "Catch me if you can, moron." Her face twisted in a grimace.Caro started down the stairs to the flight deck and braced her hands on the side rails, sliding the rest of the way down, bypassing the last ten steps. She hit the ground running and figured she'd at least have a little bit of a head start before the camera crew caught back up. Jazinski's canopy opened and the pilot slowly got up and removed her helmet. She had a scrape above her brow line but otherwise didn't appear to be too banged up. Caro let loose. "God damn, Jazz. What the flaming hell was that?" She signaled the waiting medics so they could treat her pilot.Lorraine threw her helmet on the seat and glared down. "That. Was a shit landing. Where the hell was the trap?" Her gloves came off and she tossed them over the edge of her bird. Caro growled. "Right where it always is. You missed it, Jazz." Lorraine swayed slightly when she reached up to remove her collar. Caro narrowed her eyes. Something's off. Jazinski had a vacant look in her gaze. She's wired on something. The realization hit the same moment Lorraine bounded over the side of her ship and launched herself down the ladder. She came flying toward Caro. "It wasn't there. The trap was not there!" Jazz took a wild swing and Caro ducked, sending the pilot spinning around in a wild circle. The CAG, Vic Albright, caught Jazz from behind, restraining her arms, and Jazinski went crazy. She kicked out, catching Caro with a solid blow to her shoulder before she could grab both legs to keep Lorraine still. Caro met Vic's gaze, ready for the question."What the hell happened out there?" Vic struggled to keep the pilot under control. She bucked and twisted, trying to break free. "Jazz never misses. Why now?" "Because it wasn't there. I'm telling you. It wasn't there!" Jazz shouted and fought against her superior officers. Caro yelled at the medical team. "Get over here. We gotta get her to sickbay now." The camera crew had caught up and the last thing anyone needed would be to have Lorraine's total meltdown on film. The medics wheeled the cot up close and Vic heaved Jazz's upper body up onto the surface. Caro followed, holding her legs until they got her torso strapped to the mattress. She nodded to Vic. "Check her pocket. Whatever this is, it's not natural."He flipped up the scratchy opening and fished out a bottle. "Stims. God damn stims." Caro sighed and worked her way around the cot to block the view of the camera crew. "This is not good." Vic glanced over at the team filming everything and lowered his voice. "No. It's not. From the looks of this bottle, she's been taking these for a while." He groaned and Caro looked up to see Monique sauntering towards them, a huge smile on her face. "Well, well, well. A little mishap on the landing from what I hear. Care to comment?" Caro spun around and marched toward the reporter. "No. Get your crew out of here. We've got an injured pilot and she doesn't need this." Monique craned her neck, trying to see past Caro. "Looks like she's okay, except for that nasty scrape." She made a move to get closer, wanting to ask questions. Caro blocked her. "I said get back." Monique huffed out an angry breath. "We're allowed on the hangar deck. You can't stop me." The medics secured the cot and started to move away. Caro seethed. "I can if it's gonna negatively impact my pilot." The lead camera guy tried to move in for a close up reaction shot while they wheeled Jazz to sickbay. "Get that god damned camera out of my face." She balled up her fist and drew her arm back, ready to punch the guy in the gut. Vic interceded. "Ms. Presley. They're taking Lieutenant Jazinski to sickbay. There's nothing more for you here." He gave Caro a look and she lowered her arm. Presley jerked her head, indicating the crew should follow the med team. "Major Albright, I will interview your lieutenant. You can't stop me." Tired of hearing that phrase, Caro let loose. "Listen, you raving bitch—" She grabbed the other woman's arm ready to forcefully haul her out. "Caro!" Vic's voice cut through the rage. "Captain Williams. That's enough." He jerked her away from Monique. "Ms. Presley, you're welcome to see if Doctor Lohan will allow an interview." He nudged Caro toward the bent bird. "Go. Get started on the after action report." Caro sneered in the other woman's direction but followed the order. Monique gave Vic a rueful smile. "She's a bit hot-headed." Caro grabbed some deck gear and pulled out a clipboard, keeping her gaze on Vic.He flicked his eyes toward her but shrugged. "She thinks you're a menace." His gaze slid back to Monique. "And she's concerned about her pilot."Monique inclined her head, acknowledging his point. "And you?" She trailed her manicured fingertips down his arm. "What do you think I am?" Vic's face went flat. "Too smart to make more out of this than you should." He turned away from her. "Have a nice day, Ms. Presley." Caro bit back a grin. Way to go, Vic. The skill he had to shut people down with little more than a dozen words never failed to amaze her.And the sour scowl Miss Hell in Heels sent toward Vic's retreating back made Caro's entire day.Score one for the good guys.
This one is getting close to being finished. I have a few more scenes to nail down and get down on paper. I'm having a lot of fun with this couple.

Her face twisted in a grimace.Caro started down the stairs to the flight deck and braced her hands on the side rails, sliding the rest of the way down, bypassing the last ten steps.

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.

Sunday Snippet: Differences Settled
Yeesh, it's practically winter again. We had a bit of sun, rain, and snow today. Crazy. But I got to meet up with my two high school best friends for our last excursion before we hang back and wait to see what the global pandemic ends up doing.
Had a lighter than normal work week and got some cleaning done. I had some decent viewing also. Started out with finishing up the second episode of Strike Back. It ended up being a darned terrific episode. I have a nasty feeling how the series will end. Anytime a blood feud is mentioned … just saying.
I caught several episodes of Danger Man, putting me about halfway through the first season. Really like this show.
Watched an episode of Arrow and thoroughly enjoyed revisiting Russia. Also loved how John brought Roy back into the fold. I should be getting close to the big crossover event.
Got the Halloween episode of Riverdale in. Gotta say the whole Jason thing really creeps me out. Mr. Honey also creeps me out. I'm a Reggie fan even though he can be something of a douche canoe. I loved the Archie and Veronica storylines. But the best probably had to be the Betty and Jughead bits. Stonewall or whatever the hell the name of the prep school is has some dark twisty people. And, of course, Betty's ordeal with the prank phone calls ended up being well done. I'm not sure what the hell Charles is up to but here's hoping it's not something truly crappy. The little end caps with the flash forwards keep me intrigued.
Also watched an episode of Murdoch Mysteries. Loved the clip-show angle and revisiting the Meyer / Clegg rivalry. I had a true suspicion Clegg wasn't actually dead. That said, I'm not sure I like the fact he's not. Just saying.
Started a new series for me … The Heart Guy. I'm giving it a test run to see if it's what I want to dive into now that I've reached the end of Midsomer Murdersfor now.
And that's it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Differences Settled, a novella that got a start with a writing community prompt.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Regan Tiedt and Finn O'Kellen are transferred to a new ship under difficult circumstances and find they have to settle quite a few differences with their new crew mates … and their commanding officer.
And a sneaky peek…
Regan stuck the last of her personal possessions in her rucksack. "Are you okay with this whole setup?" Getting close to Finn or pretending to his lover wouldn't be hard … but she had some reservations.Finn quirked a brow. "Which part? The admiralty trying to cover its ass for making a potentially bad decision? Or the part where we've got a rubber-stamped pass to fuck up as much as we want?" His attempt at humor fell a little flat because both worked hard to be the best.Regan pulled the drawstring taut. "Neither. I'm talking about the me-and-you thing." She cared for him and counted on his friendship. And if they became more one day … well, she probably wouldn't fight against it all that hard.Finn paused in his packing. "You're concerned?" He turned to face her, giving his full attention. She shrugged. "The mission could affect our friendship. Not that it would be hard to playact with you." Might be a little too easy, in fact.Finn's lips twitched. "So … it won't be a problem to be, um, affectionate toward me?" His eyebrows waggled.Regan laughed. "Not showing it, no. Won't be difficult at all." She sobered. "But I could easily fall for you and that would beg trouble once the operation is over." Lots of trouble.Finn's head dipped a little. "Because when we get back the frat regs would be applied again." At least she didn't have to spell it out for him.Regan nodded. "If I'm being honest, yes. It'll be hard to go backward if we start something. At least for me it would be." And she'd bet her next pay grade he'd feel the same.Finn confirmed her thought. "Look, it's the same for me. Getting involved with you wouldn't be a hardship, and I agree trying to fit back inside a predefined box would be more than a little hard, but let's see what happens." He put his hand on her shoulder, giving it a squeeze. "And always be open about what we feel, okay?" His eyebrows rose in question.Regan agreed. "Yeah, definitely." Sound reasoning and easy enough to do.So … why did she have such an itchy feeling of uncertainty?
With things being a little uncertain with regards to the pandemic, here's hoping I can get some solid writing done. I loved revisiting Regan and Finn's story.

Sunday Snippet: A Day in the Life (Shyler: Finding Home companion read)
What a weird weather week. Of course, it's March in Ohio so not exactly uncommon. We had beautiful spring-like temperatures at the beginning of the week and by Thursday it got chilly again. A little bit of snowy flakes and brrr! degrees outside.
Finished up a big project and another one on the smaller side and also started a new one. Needless to say, I didn't get a lot of television in this week.
I watched the last Midsomer Murders that's currently available. I rather hope they do another season. I love this show.
I also caught another series one episode of Peak Practice. I'm enjoying this series quite a lot.
I started the eleventh series of Classic Who and loved the introduction of Sarah Jane. I'm so sad Elisabeth isn't with us anymore. She made Sarah Jane such a great character.
I've watched about eight more episodes of Danger Man. John Drake is definitely a pre-Bond character study. The first season is a lot of fun so far.
Caught two more episodes of Gargoyles. The second season is quite a mish-mash. Not to say it's not good but a lot is going on.
Started the second episode of Strike Back's final season. This show. I'm going to miss it when it's gone.
Hmm. Maybe I watched more television than I thought. But that's it for this week. Tonight's post is from Day in the Life, a companion read to Furlough 99's Finding Home told from the droid's point of view.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Alphie is a kick ass droid who assists Inspector Shyler Lumen. He's also not afraid to offer unwarranted advice.
And a sneaky peek…
Alphie made himself as unobtrusive as possible, but listened in with a keen ear. "Do you have rooms reserved?" Marshton Gray certainly cut to the chase. And he'd caught their inspector off guard. "Wasn't sure what I'd run into once I got here." Shyler took a long swallow of her CaffCola. "I was assured a single room wouldn't be an issue." Her eyes narrowed in thought. "I didn't expect to get tangled up with you, but I doubt it'll be a problem."She couldn't be more wrong. Marshton could and would be a problem for Alphie's prickly inspector. The galactic mogul didn't understand either. "What won't?" Shyler crumpled up the crisp tray. "You staying with me in a single unit." Her eyes scanned the area until they landed on the trash bin. "I'll go find a porter and book it now." Hopping up, she tossed the refuse then turned and waited for him. Alphie readied himself to be of assistance. Shyler got as far as swiping her card before Gray intervened with an alternative suggestion. Apparently a single occupancy unit wouldn't work for him. And why should it. The man had an entire suite in the luxe quadrant. Alphie wondered if he'd actually convince Inspector Sweetie to share the space with him. "May I offer a suggestion? An alternative choice?"Shyler frowned. "To what?"Alphie had to applaud Marsh's brutal honesty. "Extremely cramped and uncomfortable accommodations." Shyler raised her eyebrows. "What's wrong? Can't deal?" Oh ho. Inspector Sweetie scored a point for that one. Gray needed a moment before he could speak. He blew out a calming breath. "Why should I have to? I've got a suite of rooms in the luxe quadrant." She opened her mouth to blast him but he forestalled her. "I said rooms. You can have your own and not even have to see me." He added on for good measure. "Or hear me for that matter."Shyler shot back. "Do you snore or something?"The corners of his mouth turned up. "Not that I've been told." An odd light crept into her eyes and Marsh gave her a considering look. Alphie decided Miss Sweetie might not be as immune to Mr. Galactic Mogul as she claimed. Interesting.
Honestly? Writing the story of Shyler and Marsh from Alphie's perspective is so much fun. This one will eventually be a free read once I get the final touches added.

Sunday Snippet: Dance with Destiny
March 1, 2020
Well … the beginning of my birthday week is off to a chilly start. The good news is the temps are supposed to warm up this week, which is kind of nice. I could use a little mild weather to improve my mood. The other good news is our new roof did indeed fix the leak situation. We had several days of icy rain and no drips!
Busy week on the work front again. I like having multiple projects but a particularly brutal edit made for a long seven days. I'm looking forward to the new week.
Light viewing schedule for television. I needed to focus on work in a big way. I finished up the premiere episode of Strike Back and, okay, Coltrane's attitude improved. Hmm. Maybe not improved, but at least I get why he's kind of off the rails. A terrific episode overall.
Watched two more episodes of Gargoyles and I think I missed both in the original run. I enjoyed viewing the new-to-me ones.
Caught another episode of Arrow and thoroughly enjoyed the somewhat insane mix of past and present in the aptly titled "Present Tense" episode. I'm looking forward to a return to Russia in the next one.
Watched an episode of Murdoch Mysteries and quite liked revisiting an old nemesis of William's, especially since he's been somewhat converted into an ally. I also loved the intrigue of having Brackenreid's daughter meet his wife.
Stared an episode of Riverdale and got sidetracked with work. I'm hoping to finish up soon and maybe see the end of the farmies once and for all. Fingers crossed.
Other than the above, I caught an airing of Grease 2, which is actually one of my all-time favorite movies. I even like it better than the original. I also did a marathon of mystery movies on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries.
That's pretty much it for television. Tonight's post is from Dance with Destiny, book two in a trilogy I'm currently calling the Destiny series. An actual title will hopefully be forthcoming.
Here's the mini-blurb:
A prophecy discovered leads to a dance with destiny. Quillan and Jeb have to find their way back to each other and might just tempt fate to do it.
And a sneaky peek…
Jeb Paldino jolted awake. "What the hell?" Memories assailed him.Victor's setup of Quillan. Ashford's betrayal. And everyone thinks I'm dead because of it.He groaned. "Including Quillan." He didn't know how he had the knowledge, but she'd made it back to the fleet.A barrage of images flooded his mind. Quick snatches showing how Quillan escaped, of Ty loading Jeb on the transport, how Quill sat in an isolation chamber with fluids being pumped into her, and how he, apparently, ended up in his current location. Shaking his head, Jeb fought a wave of nausea trying to climb up his throat. For whatever odd reason, he didn't question the information pinging in his brain. And he believed the depiction of events.Exhaling slowly, he swung his gaze around the space. "Not much on decoration." Plain gray walls, no windows, and the distinct lack of an engine's hum. "I'm not on a ship." He had no clue whether that even mattered. He tried to stand but a sharp, stabbing throb pounded at his temples. "Okay, not ready for that yet." But he didn't want to recline either. The lack of restraints indicated his captors didn't worry about him escaping. Which probably meant he couldn't, or if he did, he'd have nowhere to go. A gentle wash of a large stone structure surrounded by dense forests on all sides sifted through his mind. Again, a mild roiling of his stomach hit when the image faded. "Yeah, yeah, I get the message." He'd love to know how the weird form of communication happened. For now, he'd play the waiting game. And think.Because a traitor held one of the top ranks in the military and Jeb had to get his head wrapped around how to deal with the knowledge. After that, he could figure out where the hell he'd been taken and how to get back to the fleet.Because he would get home. He had a future with Quillan he wanted to start living.
I truly love where this story is going and the sages are feeding me info on the third book also. My goal is to finish all three before releasing anything, mainly so I don't lose the intricacies of the plot points.

Sunday Snippet: Damn the Torpedo Flu
WooHoo! I have a new roof on my garage and both porches. Our back porch actually includes our bathroom and laundry room and we’ve had leaks for the past five years. Here’s to not having those anymore! We went with a blue metal and it looks terrific with the slate roof of the house. I’m thrilled the job took, I’m not kidding, a day and a half. I figured it would take a week to get it all done. Glad I was wrong.
Busy week on the work front. Finished up a project and started two more. I did get some television viewing in but had a light week.
I caught an episode of Riverdale and enjoyed getting back to the regular timeline. I’m completely creeped out with Cheryl’s weird deal with her corpse brother but I love the battle of wills she’s having with the new principal. Loved having some story with Reggie. Also liked seeing Mad Dog join the group. I want Kevin and Betty to get back to their usual friendship and I’m happy to see him kind of wake up to the evils of the farmies. Here’s hoping Fangs comes back to the fold.
I watched The Will, a Passionflix original movie, and thoroughly enjoyed it! The casting ended up being spot-on and I had fun watching this one. I’ll be looking forward to the next release Passionflix puts out.
Caught another episode of Danger Man aka Secret Agent. I forever have The Prisoner in my mind when I watch these episodes even if they’re not technically related. Probably because I watched The Prisoner first.
Watched the third episode of Midsomer Murders. Enjoyed it a lot. It had some good twists and turns I didn’t expect.
Viewed another first season episode of Peak Practice. I’m not quite sure what I’m supposed to think about Will. The character is, I think, the only one who remained for all twelve series. Right now, he’s kind of a petulant, whiny child most of the time and I don’t know if I’m supposed to like him or not. Since it’s only four episodes so far, I’ll reserve judgment.
Finished up Classic Who season ten with Three and the end of Jo’s tenure as a companion. The Green Death episodes were a pretty interesting arc and I like how Jo ended her time with the doctor. Looking forward to starting season eleven.
Strike Back is back, as noted in last week’s post. I’m currently watching the first episode of the season and, wow, Coltrane definitely has a big-ass chip on his shoulder. He kind of acts like he didn’t have his ass saved by his team not so long ago. That said, I’m not all the way through the first episode yet so I’ll reserve judgment.
And that’s pretty much it for television this week. Tonight’s post is from Damn the Torpedo Flu, a sexy short that got a start with a writing community prompt.
Here’s the mini-blurb:
When the torpedo flu hits the space station, Paisley and Dale are practically the last ones standing. Working through the crisis will bring them closer together if they don't kill each other first.
And a sneaky peek…
::Pass the word. The number of torpedoed occupants is one-fourth of the station. Food services have been hit hard. Try to use the automated stations in the mess halls and avoid the galley. Pass the word. One-fourth of the station has succumbed to the outbreak::
Dale reviewed the schedule again. "So far, we're covered. Only one more pilot from orange squadron is down." He shuffled the rosters into a folder.Paisley frowned. "I have a bad feeling about this whole situation. A quarter of the station has this virus? And it's already hit the galley crew?" She got up and paced back and forth.Dale shrugged. "Not like we use the galley much anyway. Why does this have you so twitchy?" He got up and stepped in front of her.She met his gaze. "Because we're not the norm. Most of our pilots meet in the galley and decide where to hang out for dinner. They don't do the whole grab something on the fly and find a quiet spot for some alone time." Her lips curved in a wry, suggestive smile. And, okay, she had a point. But why the freak out?He tilted his head. "I'm still not getting it. What's the big deal?" People had to eat and if the galley crew— "Ah… damn. The galley workers dropping like flies means they've already breathed all their germs on others. Shit." He backed up and started pacing.Paisley gave a hard nod. "And now he sees the light." She reached back and snagged the flight roster file. "Look, we've got a backup to our main schedule. We are covered for now." Waving the folder, she caught his attention.Dale paused and exhaled slowly. "But it's only gonna get harder from here. There's no way we won't have some flaming hoops to jump through before this is over." His shoulders slumped when the weight of what they faced hit him.Paisley put the roster aside. "Okay, look, you didn't really think we'd get through this nasty virus unscathed, did you?" She grabbed his hand and tugged him down onto the small sofa in the office. His head hit the back cushions. "No, not completely. But I really didn't think we'd have a full quarter of the station down so soon either." He straightened. "You haven't had anything from the galley lately, have you?" If he lost Paisley to this stupid ailment, he'd go insane. She shook her head. "Nope. You know I rarely have time to get there, through the lines, and back to whatever needs my attention." Sending him a sideways glance, her lips quirked. "Even when there's not a full-blown crisis going on."Dale laced their fingers together. "Pretty sure I can't keep this—the schedule, the roster, everything—without you." He lifted their palms and kissed her knuckles.Paisley snorted. "I know you can't. And I couldn't either." Resting her head on his shoulder, she sighed. "I'll make sure to stop by the infirmary and see if there's anything that'll stave off or delay symptoms. We have to keep as many pilots in the air as possible." Squeezing his fingers, she let go then turned to straddle his lap.He put his hands on her hips. "I'm sensing we're done talking for now." He skimmed his fingers along her torso.Paisley gave him a sexy smirk. "Never let it be said you can't state the obvious." Her head tilted forward and she kissed his jawline.
I can honestly say I’m having fun with this one. I didn’t know if having a story based around a viral outbreak would work well with romance, but Paisley and Dale are hilarious and snarky, which is always a treat to write.
That’s it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.

Sunday Snippet: Cupid's Folly
February 16, 2020
Ugh. What a rough week. I've been battling some wicked-bad insomnia lately and I hate walking around like a zombie and trying to catch some much-needed rest whenever I can. Not a fun time.
I did have a wonderful revelation on Thursday, which was my youngest's eighteenth birthday. To date, the husband and I have successfully raised three offspring to adulthood. Now to get her through prom and graduation then off to college. LOL
Slow week for television, mainly due to the insomnia. I caught a full arc of Classic Who and had a thought… the Daleks have been around for a long, long time. Just saying.
Got back into Gargoyles and watched a couple of episodes. The second season is super long and it'll be a while before I get through all of the various stories.
Watched a few episodes of Danger Man. This is pretty much a rewatch of the series for me, but it's nice to have a thirty-minute show to sink into while I'm doing dishes or cooking dinner.
Caught an episode of Murdoch Mysteries and finally discovered what would happen with the neighbors. I'd forgotten about the hotel detective and his mad vendetta against Murdoch. All in all, a satisfying wrap-up to the storyline. Sadly, the widow might end up rearing her vengeful head at some point in the series. That should be interesting.
I watched another episode of Arrow and I can honestly say I'm impressed with Stephen's performance. He brings the emotional element to the screen every episode. That said, he mentioned in an interview that Emily's decision to not be involved in most of season eight made the show feel kind of wrong (absolutely paraphrasing here) because Felicity is the heart of the show and no Felicity means no heart. I totally get that. But… it's kind of cool to see the reunions Oliver is having with people from his past. Talia and Thea teaming up could be a show on its own, especially if Nyssa got involved at some point. Just saying. Also really interesting to see what's going on in the futurescape, especially with the twist at the end of the episode.
Getting ready to start an episode of Riverdale and watch the premiere episode of Strike Back's final season. I also plan to watch the Passionflix original, The Will sometime this week. Looking forward to some great screentime.
That's it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Cupid's Folly, a novella that got a start with a brainstorming session with a fellow author.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Jinx Jersey just signed on as the XO of the Cupid's Folly, captained by Alrick Cates and he's given her fair warning she picked the worst time to start her new post and develop an attraction for him. The pleasure ship is booked solid for the Valentine holiday and they don't have time for romance.
And a sneaky peek…
Captain Alrick Cates read through the pre-flight memos concerning the Cupid's Folly. He lamented this run. "Gah, I hate the couples' cruises." Actually, he disliked pleasure cruises in general. He longed to be back on a military ship. Missed the rank and structure, the precise need for people to be in a specific location doing important work. Civilian passengers could be fun sometimes but often they were nothing more than a huge pain in the ass.He picked up the last document and growled. "What the hell?" The civilian board assigned him a new member of staff for a couples' cruise. "And not just any new member… but an acting XO. Oh, no way." His XO picked now to have surgery?Okay, an operation the man had been putting off for several months, but the damned timing had been on purpose. Paton Barrick abhorred couples' cruises worse than Alrick. Setting the notation aside, he dug down and pulled out the personnel file.Quickly reading the information on his new second in command, Alrick slammed the folder shut. "Brand fucking new. They're sending me a barely graduated newb to act as my XO." Is the civilian board trying to send me over the brink?Alrick got up and paced back and forth. He could call and demand someone with experience. Someone who could weather a shitstorm of on-the-prowl men and women with a sole purpose of finding true love in five ports or less.Sitting back down, he grabbed the handset. "No way am I dealing with a green officer who has zero experience." He grabbed the file again and propped it open. The name caught his attention first. Jinx Jersey. The rating hit him next. She'd graduated at the top of her class with off the chart marks. Frowning, he hung the receiver back in the cradle. He needed to dig into her credentials—A rapid series of knocks sounded on the hatch.Alrick closed the folder again. "Enter." Meeting with this Jinx Jersey couldn't hurt, right?
I'm enjoying this story. I might end up shifting this away from a Valentine romance, but the main thrust of the plot won't change much if I do. Alrick is still going to be cranky about having a new XO on one of the toughest cruises to get through.

Sunday Snippet: Crash and Burn
So, we finally have snow in Ohio. Not a lot but enough to remind people it's actually winter. This isn't a bad thing. I'm hoping that means we won't have blizzards in April or May. Just saying.
After a very slow January workwise, February is going like gangbusters. I'd rather be busy than not so no complaints here. I did have a slow week of television though.
I started with an episode of Murdoch Mysteries and enjoyed it. Fun to see a familiar face with Ruth's brother showing up. Should be interesting to see what happens with Henry now that Ruth has access to loads of money again. Also interesting happenings with William and Julia's neighbors. I'm still not quite sure what to expect with them.
Caught the Frankie Drake Mysteries finale for season three. Always fun when a character returns to stir up trouble for Frankie and the girls. I'm hoping season four continues to have a big focus on the friendships.
Arrow's second episode ended up being better than I anticipated. Interested to see what happens with Lyla. I truly love the mix of present and future in these episodes.
Caught another episode of Midsomer Murders and quite enjoyed it. It's fun when the case doesn't quite go where I think it will.
Also watched another series one episode of Peak Practice. I gotta say Will's wife is quite the piece of work. I have no idea how long she lasts but I'm thinking it's not through the end of the series. That's not a bad thing.
I saved the best for last. I finally watched the season four premiere for Riverdale. I'd be lying if I said there was no ugly sobbing involved. Because there was. A lot of it. I honestly didn't expect less, I mean I'd been warned by at least three people to have a box of tissues. Needless to say I did and used an undetermined amount of said box.
I can honestly say I can't imagine a better tribute to Fred Andrews. I loved how pretty much everyone put aside their grievances—Reggie and Cheryl in particular—and paid homage to a stalwart member of the community. Reggie's gesture with providing a hearse moved him up a notch on my like-the-guy meter. And Cheryl's conversation with Mary and her about face regarding the parade had a nice symmetry. I have no clue what the hell her deal is with CorpseJason but I don't need to know for this episode to work so well. Relenting on having a parade to celebrate Fred's life and put the focus on someone not a Blossom is big badass energy and I'm here for it.
FP taking on a role of filling big shoes also worked well for me. Figuring out where Archie was and what he planned to do when he found out who ended up being responsible for Fred's death and his subsequent response of calling in Archie's friends showed a good bit of foresight for the former Serpent leader. I also loved the way he handled asking Archie if he'd mind an escort home. I knew what was coming. I figured out what Cheryl wanted to do. And, man, I literally grabbed the box of tissues and pretty much sobbed through the whole thing. Throw in Jughead's obituary and the reaction shots of people reading—the focus being on the grown-ups, friends and enemies—and, yep, the tears flowed again.
Shannen Doherty's guest appearance was a nice touch. For those of us who are a certain age, the poignancy of having her involved in memorializing Fred and, in turn, Luke Perry packs a punch and creates a nice thread that goes from beginning to end.
The other part I found poignant is Betty at the cemetery by her dad's grave. Season three ended with Hal being murdered by Penelope and it's easy to forget that happened and have it eclipsed by Fred's demise. The trashing of his plot, while sad for Betty, serves as a solid visual reminder of where things left off.
Finally… the last scene of Archie in the garage sifting through memories of his dad, the only scenes that actually showed Fred in action, was extremely well done. Kudos to KJ, the writing team, and the film crew for what, I'm sure, had to be a difficult time.
All in all, a terrific sendoff for Fred and Luke. Next week, I'll dive back into the normal batshit crazy world of Riverdale and enjoy the hell out of it.
That's pretty much it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Crash and Burn, a novella that got a start with a writing community prompt.
Here's the mini-blurb:
Pepper Strand met the wrong brother first and when her personal feelings get in the way, she takes the easy way out. When it leads to the death of Bax's sibling, she drowns her guilt with alcohol and Bax decides to make her crawl out of the bottle and into his arms.
And a sneaky peek…
Baxter Loman loosened up, tilting his head from side to side. He loved going round for round in the ring.A knock sounded on the door and Preble poked his head inside the changing area. "Yo, Bax. I've got another eager brawler ready to work off some stress." He took in Bax's sweaty countenance. "She might just give you a run for your money." Preb gave an exaggerated wink.Bax quirked an eyebrow. "She? I love having female sparring partners." He reached for the tape. "Give me a few… I'll be right out."Preble lifted his chin and smirked. "Good luck, buddy." His tone indicated Bax might need it.Bax didn't waste time, getting his hands taped up in record time. He jogged down the corridor leading to the sparring area and got his first glimpse of his opponent facing away from him. Hot damn. If she didn't race on the circuit, she could. Toned and cut muscle in her shoulders and back showed her physical prowess shouldn't be underestimated. When she turned to face him, lightly hopping up and down on the balls of her feet, he barely bit back a hiss of appreciation. Immediately attracted, he swung up into the ring and made a slow circle around her.Once he completed the task, he thrust his palm forward. "Who are you and where the hell have you been?" A wide grin split his face. Her lips curved. "Pepper Strand." She gave his hand a firm shake. "Been right here in town for the past six months." She let her whereabouts before that hang in the air.Shit. He didn't need the details. Her racing record spoke for itself. She taught an advanced racing course and put new and requalifying members through their paces. And his brother loved to throw her name around. About her teaching skill and other talents she had.His grin fell. "Brad's latest and greatest." How did Brad always manage to worm his way into convenient relationships?Pepper frowned and shrugged. "Not so great right now." She clapped her hands together. "Are we gonna do this or what?" Her head cocked from side to side.Bax fed off her angry tension. "We're definitely doing this." He waved toward Preble. The bartender gave him a thumbs-up and pressed the starting buzzer.Pepper crouched into a low stance and barely hesitated before she launched forward with a sweeping kick to Bax's hip.He countered with a hard shove to her shoulder and liked how she barely moved. They'd have a great round. But he'd be hard-pressed to spar at his best when his hard dick might get in the way.
I'm having a lot of fun writing this one. Normally, I go for military in my sci-fi romances, but I enjoy leaving my comfort zone and getting into something a little different. Pepper and Bax are a challenge and I love a good one.
That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.

Sunday Snippet: Covert Heart
Hello, February. An extra day in the month probably won't make much difference, right? Eh, January already felt like an entire year, so here's hoping February doesn't.
Another slow week for television viewing, but not a bad one. I finished up season three of Riverdale and, whew, what an ending. Talk about jamming a crap-ton of stuff into forty-three minutes. That said, wow. I'm still processing all the crazypants. I'm very glad I can start season four this week. I'll be dreading the first episode but can't wait to see what happens from here. Hopefully something utterly horrible for Hiram is on the horizon but I doubt it. Sigh.
Midsomer Murders had a good opener for series twenty-one. One down and three to go. Then I have to find another show to start. I have a few on my list to check out.
Caught another episode of Peak Practice. I went back to the first season again. I'll watch another of the final season this week.
Watched another full arc of Classic Who and have one more set before starting the last season with Three. Looking forward to Sarah Jane episodes.
That's pretty much it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Covert Heart, a novella that got a start with a writing community prompt.
Here's the mini-blurb:
An impossible task. A couple sworn to carry it out or die trying. One big test of the depth of their courage and love.
And a sneaky peek…
"I'll have more coffee." The Saskitet delegate nodded toward the mug on the desk and resumed her heated vid conversation. Rick McBride lifted the carafe and filled the cup to just below the brim. Six weeks undercover taught him the exact preferred spot. Going too low or high resulted in a verbal tongue lashing that could be heard in the adjoining suites. Minister Marlena Hix didn't fear a "difficult" label. In fact, she welcomed it. No one went against her wishes. The more who knew that fact the easier things went. Ruffling feathers had become her trademark. It also made Rick's presence necessary. He assumed the role of her domestic aide to keep a close watch on her activities. Minister Hix had declared war on secrets and stealth. Her goal to expose the nasty stuff agencies did to help maintain democracy and make it available for public scrutiny had the planetary governments in an uproar. She liked to shine a spotlight on any and all who tried to fly under the radar and work behind the lines and those participating didn't appreciate it. The Condorian regime kept peace along their borders by supplying the Ramarians with minerals they refined to make fuel. The problem? The Condorian public voted against it. Hix exposed the deal. And the Condorian senate scrambled to provide answers to their populace. She didn't stop there. Other back room alliances had been outed. Under-the-table handshakes that kept several treaties intact, made public. Covert operations cracked and crumbled in each sector of the solar system. If left unchecked, Hix would unravel the entire political system.Rick silently backed away after refilling the minister's cup. He took his place by the entrance of the suite, standing vigil until Hix's assistant minister returned from his morning rounds. She had the man skulk around the central hub every morning to catch any and all pertinent information regarding new alliances, agreements, or favor swapping. Rick had to admit the brilliance of the strategy. He actually admired her willingness to stand for the truth. But he also realized her underhanded tactics put her right on the level of any other delegate. Maybe lower, because Minister Hix masterfully turned facts to her own end and didn't care who got hurt in the process.Bringing down the current democracy and putting an autocratic ruler in place served her ambitions. Especially since she'd deemed herself worthy of the job.Hix waved him over to her side when she finished her vid conference. "Has Martin checked in yet?" She lifted the mug to her lips and took a large gulp.Rick answered quickly. "No, Minister." The door slid open and Rick stepped back. "Ah, here he is, ma'am." He waited for Martin Helms to seat himself across from Hix. "Will there be anything else, ma'am?"Hix nodded toward the assistant minister. "Get Martin some coffee then leave." She shot a venom-filled look at Helms. "Return back with lunch at 1300." She leveled her sharp gaze on Rick. "That's one PM. I keep forgetting you staff people don't speak military." She swung her eyes back to the assistant minister. "And make sure you're not one moment late. Or I'll have your position filled with someone more capable." Her words, meant for Helms, made the man twitch a bit.Rick ignored the interplay, poured the coffee, and laid out two sugars, Martin's preferred choice. "Lunch. One PM." He tucked the carafe under his arm. "Yes, ma'am." He moved away from the desk and busied himself with clean-up, quietly stacking breakfast dishes on the cart. He excelled at this part of his job, using efficient movements to maintain his cover and gather intel. Minister Hix already forgot about him and demanded a report from Helms.Helms briefly slid his gaze in Rick's direction, but didn't keep Hix waiting. "The Calderans have opened negotiations with the Velamites to do a guns-for-grain deal."Hix hissed out a satisfied breath. "That's wonderful news. I needed something on the Velamites." She lowered her voice. "The populace voted against exporting. They want their crops to stay local." Marlena scribbled something on her notepad and handed it to Martin. "Contact this list and plant the seeds."Martin tore the page from the tablet and tucked it inside his pocket.Hix pushed him for more. "What else can you report?"Rick couldn't stick around to hear the rest. He'd finished the clean-up and needed to leave. Pushing the cart toward the door, neither Helms nor Hix spared him a glance. He exited the suite and waited until he got on the elevator to activate his comm link."McBride for the chancellor. Message follows. Priority debrief in thirty. Location E." He switched off just in time for the doors to swish open and admit two low-level aides.Rick smiled a greeting, but didn't engage either in conversation. Staff didn't speak unless spoken to, and his fellow passengers had a running dialog already in play. Interestingly enough, their topic happened to be Hix and the firestorm that always seemed to follow in her wake.A tall, slim blond with chiseled cheekbones and a neatly trimmed goatee spoke in low tones. "Rumor has it Minister Hix has something big planned for the summit." He keyed in his destination. The other aide, a voluptuous redhead with striking green eyes, nodded. "I've heard the same. Rumblings are rolling through the administrative branch. The holy terror plans to bring more truthful mayhem to the proceedings."The two rolled their eyes and fell silent. A moment later, the elevator chimed and each exited, after ignoring Rick for the entire ride. With more intel to share, his debrief couldn't come soon enough. And his bonus would be seeing Emma, after a long, dry spell.
I've had a lot of fun writing this one. All the pieces are in place but I need to get them all in order. The sages decided to feed me the story in little chunks and didn't stick to a linear timeline.
That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.
