So Bad It’s Good – Attack Force
Our first Steven Seagal movie on So Bad It’s Good is ATTACK FORCE. Seagal is slim and trim and at the top of his form in this one. No one has been fitter on screen. Oh, and they dubbed his voice for half the movie. This is a gem!

Final Guys #115 – Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, is on the Final Guys’ docket today. With an incredible cast, a big budget, and the real tragedy of the Manson murders behind it, is there any chance it won’t be good? Or did Tarantino peak is this is just a long, meandering mess?
Our weekly horror reviews are The Possession of Hannah Grace, American Nightmares, The Poughkeepsie Tapes, Butterfly Kisses, The Wraith, 14 Cameras, Alita: Battle Angel, The Boys, Claws by Russell James, and Night Shift by Stephen King.

Day 71 – More Podcasting
Not much of a post today. I managed to write 2083 words in the sixth book in The Hunger. Stepping my word counts up by the day. Until this weekend when they’ll be in the dumps again.
I also posted the newest Final Guys podcast, where we reviewed a ton of movies, along with Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Lots of fun in this one.
See ya tomorrow.

Day 70 – Don’t Give Up
Because I’ve been at this writing thing for a few years now, I’ve seen a lot of my peers walk away from the business. I don’t blame them. It’s tough to make a living telling stories. Authors are just like any other business that opens in your neighborhood – most of them will fail. We don’t fail for the same reasons though. We fail because we bail too early.
We have much lower overhead than the restaurant on the corner of Main Street. If a book bombs, we can learn from it and write another without having to fire the staff and file for bankruptcy. That’s where so many early writers fail. They pack their bags and go home before they’ve allowed themselves to work through the early struggles of starting a business.
Don’t write one book and give up.
Don’t stop at two or three.
Keep going. Maybe you’ll eventually make a living at this. Maybe you won’t. But if you give up too early, you’ll never know. Just because your first books fails, doesn’t mean you don’t have what it takes.
I wrote and published five novels and novellas that didn’t sell worth a shit. Several short stories were sprinkled in there too. My sixth book was The Dark. That’s when I finally put a few coins back in the bank. It took six published books before I moved a meaningful amount of copies. Most people give up long before that.
I learned from my mistakes. My books needed better pacing, characters, and dialogue. I needed to adapt to the market. And it worked. If I’d packed it in after the third, fourth, or fifth books had bombed…
Getting that much work out there took a lot of writing time. That’s where a lot of us fall to the way side – we don’t prioritize writing. Myself included. I’ve slacked way too much. Putting at least an hour of ass-in-seat time each day will give an author a lot of books over the years. Yet most of us don’t do that. We make excuses or we grow bored or blame something external.
Or we give up.
Don’t. Not yet.
You have five more books to write.
Today, I climbed back in the saddle and managed 1344 words in the sixth book in The Hunger. The standing desk is amazing so far. I think it’s going to help me keep going when I get fatigued. Looking at my production numbers long term will be interesting.
I’m also podcasting on Final Guys tonight. Come join us at 8 PM EST as we talk about Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood.
See ya tomorrow.

Day 69 – No More Excuses Redux
Last night, I managed less than 3 hours of sleep. Got right around 2. I felt like shit all day. Still do. Can’t wait to collapse in my bed.
When I tried to crash last night, I just couldn’t get my mind to settle down. I kept thinking about lack of production all week. I’d let excuses creep back into my work. Sure, some excuses aren’t necessarily bad. I spent a lot of time setting my office up, which still isn’t done. It’s not like I’m sitting on my ass doing nothing.
But I’m not writing as much as I should.
And I’m giving excuses as to why my production has faltered. Does it REALLY matter what they are? No. They’re still excuses. I can still squeeze in 15 minutes to write 500 words.
So I’m back to what I said a few weeks ago – no more excuses. Back to the grind tomorrow morning. Gonna start banging some pages out.
We’ll put this to the test in a hurry since I’ll be at a horror convention this weekend. Will I still get words down, even though I’ll be in a hotel room? Guess we’re about to find out.
I’ll post the first results of my No More Excuses Redux tomorrow.
See ya then.

Day 68 – Where Dem Words
I didn’t write anything again today. Most of my day was spent re-arranging my office so I could put together my standing desk. It took hours and hours. I almost listened to an entire audiobook while doing it.
And the desk still isn’t done. There were issues with the instructions. There were missing pieces. There wasn’t enough beer.
Tomorrow morning, I’m going to the Baltimore Ravens training camp for a few hours in the morning. Then I have to see a movie for Final Guys. And finish my desk. Then get my office back in place. Then buy and install a window AC. Then, maybe, doubtfully, I can get back to writing.
The whole goal if this office rearrangement was to increase my productivity.
So far, it has been at the expensive of several writing days.
This had better pay off in the long run. Especially when you consider that I won’t be writing this weekend because I’ll be at Scares That Care. If you’re going, find me walking the floor and we’ll have a drink.
See ya tomorrow.

Day 67 – Just An Accountability Day
Today, I managed to sneak in 1782 words before calling it for the day. There is no chance in hell I’m going to finish this book within a month, but I’m making better progress than I did at this point in Decayed. Still gonna call it a win, even if it isn’t the blowout I’m looking for.
What did you accomplish on a beautiful Saturday.
See ya tomorrow.

Day 66 – Attack Force
I spent the entire day editing So Bad It’s Good. If you haven’t watched any of the previous episodes, it’s just a show where my buddy and I watch bad movies and tear them apart. It’s terribly produced and ‘acted’, but we have a ton of fun doing it. We also drink too much and forget what we’re saying a lot.
The newest episode is on the Steven Seagal classic Attack Force.
They dub his voice for a quarter of the movie. It has to be seen to be believed. He’s also… large… in this one. He spent a lot of time in the gym getting in shape for this role.
We have a blast making these things. Unfortunately, they’re extremely labor intensive. The amount of editing that goes into an episode is just stupid. If I had half a brain, I’d stop doing them and focus on something that actually makes me money. But I don’t. So I keep working on them on occasion.
Because I edited past midnight last night and through today, I didn’t write at all. I’m gonna have to make those words up tomorrow. I don’t like having two days this week where I didn’t write. I’ll correct that this weekend.
See ya tomorrow.
