John Carpenter’s “Halloween” (1978) is on the menu for tonight…
Every year since he was 8 during October I fill the DVR with edited for cable classic horror so each night I can sit down and watch something with my oldest son who craves fright. I’m picky about what I allow him to watch. I don’t care about the language and most of the gore is so over the top he finds it funny and asks more questions about how they did it than anything (…having a background in Applied Special Effects is one of the perks of being an Industrial Designer).
For good reason my son, now 11, is obsessed with zombies. I wouldn’t know why… Last year we watch the remake of “Dawn”. This year we’ve done “Land of the Dead” and the complete Resident Evil series complete with Retribution in iMax 3-D. They’re not really zombie flicks, or even horror films, but I’ll take what I can get.
Tonight we have the original 1978 John Carpenter classic “Halloween” (a personal favorite). One of the top 5 horror films of all time in my humble opinion… especially when piggybacked with “Halloween II”. He’s never seen The Shape before so I’m assuming he’ll be thoroughly enthralled.
We’ve also completed “Possession” at the theater as well as “Dead Silence”, “Scarecrows”, “The Grudge” and “The Grudge 2” at home.
Did I mention we kicked off the season at opening night of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal in the pouring down rain covered in plastic in a wheel chair trying to keep a cast dry? God damn it I love Halloween.
