Travel your home: How to experience your city in a new light

Categories: Best OfTraveling

A man at the front desk of a hotel we were checking in at was making light conversation. I don't remember what my mother asked, but I remember he responded with, “traveling to the place you live will change your view of your home.”

He then told his story of how he gets to know his new hometown, to get a hotel and look up the sights to see.

Travel your home: How to experience your city in a new light

I don’t know why that stuck with me, but it did.

I remember thinking about how much money that might be; where would you even s...

Watch This: Baigal Nuur - Lake Baikal

Categories: Books & FilmFilmBody:

I've got the most incredibly beautiful art to share with you today. Premiering at Sundance Film Festival, Baigal Nuur - Lake Baikal, by artist Alisi Telengut, is an entrancing visual feast.

Watch This: Baigal Nuur - Lake Baikal

From the sounds to the movement, it's a short glimpse into how Lake Baikal was formed; the film shows millions of years of the creation of Lake Baikal (the oldest and deepest lake in the world).

Of particular note to me was the movement of weather, lava, and water, and much...

Music for living through changing times

Categories: Best OfStories

Shifting times seem to be the usual state of things these days. Thinking about and working through the changes such situations bring is something musicians face and consider in their work, too.

Here are aspects of shifting times and living in them through music.

Music for living through changing times

Start with a Stone has lyrics which can be taken in a number of ways: back to basics, clearing the decks, moving on and such are some of those ways. You could also take them as invitation or metaphor for starti...

Through the Eyes of an Educator: To Thrive

Categories: Best OfStories

A new month, a new year, a new chance to write your story.

How do you greet the new year?

Through the Eyes of an Educator: To Thrive

After college graduation, a few friends and I backpacked through Europe. For me, it was a first full feeling of independence, exploration, and a chance to see more of the world. We spent over three weeks hitting the typical western Europe go-to spots, including a few days in France and Italy exploring all things art, people watching, and food deliciousness. Sure, we took in the ...

From Van To Kid-Friendly Camper In A Few Simple Steps

Categories: Best OfTravelingBody:

With accommodation costs constantly rising, and with more and more travellers desiring the freedoms that they see their fellow adventurers enjoying, it’s hardly surprising that converted vans are gaining real traction.

From Van To Kid-Friendly Camper In A Few Simple Steps

But, in the majority of great van conversion tutorials, one thing is often missing – the sight of any kids. Sure, van life looks great, but many people who attempt it are either childless or have children who have flown the nest. And, given how ...

Music for December, a time of hope and reflection

Categories: Best OfStories

December is a time which invites reflection. That is true wherever you might be, and whatever else may be going on.

December can also be a time of many things to get done, holidays to celebrate, gatherings to attend, travel plans, resolutions for the coming year...

Each of those activities will benefit from a bit of space, a bit of time for reflection. That may come before, during, after you take part, of course—and music is a fine way to invite reflection and a fine co...

Lillie’s Loved Books for November-December

Categories: Books & FilmBooksBody:

Recently, I was inspired to read again. I haven’t sat down and read a truly inspiring, breathtaking book in over a year. I listen to audiobooks for the most part, and then reread the physical copy! I read four amazing books this November and December; I’d love to give mini reviews for all of them.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

After watching a favorite booktuber of mine put this on her all time favorites, I knew I had to read this. I am so glad I did, as ...

As more opportunities for passionate individuals to teach and interact with students in exotic locations open up around the world, the possibilities of combining a love for travel with a drive for sharing knowledge with new generations are seemingly endless. It's becoming common for young educators to leave their home towns and even the countries they were born in to pursue what is now often considered to be a dream vocation: teaching abroad.

Categories: Best OfStoriesBody:

Photography is not just a form of art; it's a way of seeing the world. It's an expression, a documentation, a story-telling medium that is as diverse as the individuals who wield the camera. From the spontaneous snaps of street photography to the meticulous compositions of landscape shots, each type of photography offers a unique perspective and requires different skills.
