One draws on blues and country from the American heartland, another connects Americana, bluegrass, and newgrass songs new and old, and another sees things thorough the lens of cowboy culture. There's music from a group...

Traveling with Artistic Kids to Newfoundland? Read this...
Have kids who love art? We do, and we're always scoping out art experiences for her when we travel - from art museums to galleries to classes. We can't get enough - and often schedule our travel plans around art events and classes.
When we were in St. John's, Newfoundland last summer, I was extremely impressed when I visited the Anna Templeton Centre for Craft, Art, and Design. We've got more goodness coming up about the Templeton Centre, but I'd l...

If you love ice cream (as I do), then you probably are always making up toppings and recipes in your head (as I do). Living Large in Our Little House
Kerri Fivecoat-Campbell and her husband Dale were thrilled when her aunt offered them a piece of land in the Ozarks. They thought they'd build a small cabin to enjoy at weekends and go on to build a larger house. As circumstances and choices happened, that small house, all 480 square feet of it, became their full time home.
As Fivecoat-Campbell points out in the opening chapters of her book Living Large in Our Little House: Thriving in 480 Square Feet...

Everything You Need to Know about the Newfoundland Folk Festival
Just up the block from Moo Moo's Ice Cream in downtown St. John's, Newfoundlandis Bannerman Park (trust me to base directions on ice cream). A wide, expansive park, with a playground, lush grassy areas, and plenty of trees, a visit earlier in the week showed me just that - a park. But once a year in early August, this park transforms into a world-class music venue, as it hosts the Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Festival.
I didn't know what to expe...

On a Quest to Photograph all of Maine's 68 Lighthouses
Maine’s lighthouses, which once served as saviors along the seacoast, are in no way a forgotten feature. All but three are still standing, and only nine are no longer functioning. Of the ones that are still operating, most are maintained as heritage sites, and others are owned and maintained privately. Some are only accessible by water. Lighthouses are one of Maine’s most striking, iconic features symbolizing the state’s maritime heritage.
