I caught the bus to Sydney
I caught the bus to Sydney, one morning last week. Canberra to Sydney. A taxi pick up at 5 AM. I have a penchant for being early. Although it is only a five minute ride to the bus depot, I bring a book and make sure I am there on time. Well, before time actually, but it gives me time for that pre-journey "P" (there are three Ps in Peppinck, and that is about right for the journey!). Perhaps one aboard the swaying bus, and as the terminus for our journ...

The Best Iced Coffee Maker in the World, No Lie
Anyone who is even casually acquainted with me knows that I. LOVE. COFFEE. So, I tend to perk up when a new coffee gadget arrives on the scene, or I discover a new, small batch coffee roaster.
Enter Dripo, a Japanese-style iced coffee maker that is small, fast, and unique. I can honestly say that this makes the best iced coffee I have ever had. It makes the smoothest iced coffee - I can't stop making it (several a day) and recommending it to all m...

The Water War on Thailand
The year was 2555. Makeshift combat vehicles growled down the narrow streets of Khao Sok, armed with plastic weapons and an unending supply of ammunition. I watched as people scrambled to arm themselves for impending war, and I knew there was no way my comrade and I were going to escape the country without joining the fight.
It was the beginning of a five-day civil war in Thailand – a war where everybody is a soldier fighting for the same cause: a cle...

Mass Incarceration in the Land of the Free
Are Americans inherently conditioned to be criminals? Are we raised to wreak havoc on our communities by breaking the laws that are in place to protect us? My short answer is no. However, when looking at statistics, it is alarming that America is known as the world’s prime jailer. “Representing just 5 percent of the world’s population, we now hold 25 percent of its inmates. The “tough on crime” politics of the 1980s and...
