NASA/ESA/G. Bacon (STScI). We've learned a lot about a hypervelocity star escaping the galaxy (note that this is an artist's rendition of a very different HSV, giant blue star HE 0437-5439)
A star named US 708 has been spotted leaving our galaxy at 4.3 million kilometers an hour (2.7 million mph), the fastest exit speed ever observed. US 708's haste has been attributed to a supernova going off nearby, shedding light on how one such type of supernova occurs.

How to Make a Superbug, and an Even More Super-Collider!
SciShow News explains how evolution and antibiotics have teamed up to produce an ordinary germ that can now, sometimes, kill people. Also, our favorite piece of science equipment — the Large Hadron Collider — has big plans for this year, including the study of dark matter.

In recent years, hundreds of new synthetic recreational drugs have emerged – drugs that neither the general public nor the scientific community know very much about. Many of these new synthetic drugs – often referred to as “legal highs” – are dangerous and continue to lead to poisonings throughout the US and the rest of the world.

So why would people use these potentially harmful new drugs?
