INCH Conference Here We Come!

Pajamas - check! Clothes - check! Makeup - check! Toothbrush - check! Snacks - check! Journey to Publication curriculum copies - check! 
We have it all packed and ready to go. The JLB Creatives Publishing Michigan team is heading to the INCH conference in Lansing this week, and the entire team couldn't be more excited.
Homeschooling just got better. Kids who have a passion for the literary world, and have longed to dive headfirst into the world of writing (creative and/or nonfiction) are in for a real treat!
Finally, a curriculum that expands the horizons of the craft of writing to include not only the basic writing skills but also genre specific techniques, nuts and bolts of the printing world, self-editing, book trailers, and so much more.

Both are co-authors of Journey to Publication, and co-facilitators for the Pickford Community Library's Young Writers Workshop. "Be a Reading Super Hero - Get in the Game: Read!" Help us set a World Record for Reading - you can start at any time!May 9 - September 9, 2016 Preschool through Grade 12
The Pickford Community Library is partnering with Pickford Public Schoolsand area homeschoolers to offer the 2016 Scholastic Reading Challenge forgrades pre-K thru 12. There will be fun prizes awarded at the librarythroughout the summer along with online awards. You can start any timeafter May 9, and the more you read, the more you earn! We had a greattime with the challenge last summer and we hope you and your family willparticipate this year. Our community goal is to read 250,000 minutes.
Be sure to stop by the library to sign up -- or request forms by email atamsmith@uproc.lib.mi.us. Parents of Pickford Public Schools pre-K thru 5students should have already received forms in the Thursday folders on May5. Additional forms for all interested students (including grades 6-12)are available through Cheri Bush in the Pickford Elementary School office.

May 12, 2016 you'll want to stop by the Pickford Community Library in person, or online, to celebrate with the talented Young Writers of the Pickford Community Library in Pickford Michigan. If you are going to join in online, we encourage you to leave an encouraging comment for the aspiring writers the day of on the Pickford Community Library FB page . 

These fabulous kids have been taking the Journey to Publication since October 2015, and have completed their journey. That means their short stories and novellas are ready to be released. 


Their big day is May 12, 2016 in more ways than one. That's also when their published works will be available to  download  for FREE from  JLB Creatives Publishing on Smashwords.com  or simply search by title and author.

Mackinac Island Here We Come!

Grand Hotel - Mackinac Island, Michigan JLB Creatives Publishing and Journey to Publication are gearing up for a mighty month of May! We're kicking it off with our first company appearance for the month being made by our Michigan top team members at the 2016 Loleta Fyan Small and Rural Libraries Conference, taking place in the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan.
The senior editor of JLB Creatives Publishing and co-author of Journey to Publication, Dar Bagby, has been invited to elaborate on ePublishing, alongside Pickford Community Library's manager, Ann Marie Smith.
In addition, JLB Creatives Publishing / Journey to Publication will be exhibiting at the conference. JLB Creatives Publishing Graphic Designer and Journey to Publication co-author, Connie M. Thompson, will serve as the exhibit's lead hostess, ready and eager to give you a "hands-on" look at the ground breaking writing program curriculum that has put Pickford Community Library (PCL) on the map. The PCL's Young Writers Workshop has been deemed the largest young writers group of its kind in the state of Michigan.

Journey to Publication has received state recognition from Frank Foster, and has warmed the heart of Judge Church on the local level.

Program Title: Engaging Your Community’s Teen Writers and Readers: Libraries and ePublishing 
Program Description: The program chronicles the grassroots development of the Pickford Community Library Young Writers Group and the group's successful journey to e-publication each year since 2012. It includes a step-by-step discussion of the nuts and bolts of e-publication and free public access through Smashwords and Overdrive. Most importantly, it showcases a model for enthusiastic community involvement in young adult programming.

BeaslePunk - Steampunk - What Is It? AND...Happy Birthday Sir Bwana Beasle!

BeaslePunk is the creative side to JLB Creatives that possesses Steampunk tenancies while dipping into the realms of fantasy, and scifi.
Award winning artists, and owners of JLB Creatives, Don & Janet Beasley, have captured audiences by the tens of thousands with their highly detailed, stunning craftsmanship in the realm of Steampunk and beyond.



If you are not familiar with Steampunk, fear not...you're not alone. Many people ask Don & Janet when they see their artwork and costumes, "What is Steampunk? Where do I get it? Am I the right age? Can I Steampunk? How many gears do I need? Does it have to steam?" 
Don & Janet are always eager to educate their fans to open their eyes to a brand new world from the past that never truly was. They assure their curious customers that there are no age restrictions to the culture, and also add that Steampunk is a very "visual" society. They put the icing on the description when they share that Steampunk is home to many tinkerers, thinkers, creators, and makers. If time allows, they enjoy sharing some of the history of Steampunk too. 
Jules Verne Steampunk most often times gets the credit of its origin from Jules Verne, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and rightfully so. Verne is one of the best visual creators when it comes to Steampunk. However, there was another fantastic author in the late 1800's who introduced novels filled with illustrations of Steampunk style apparatuses. His name was George Griffith. (Sir Bwana Beasle's inspiration for his costume). 
George Griffith was much more than an author. He was also a seaman, a teacher, and a journalist, all aspects of life that certainly had to add to his creative genius when it came to his novels. He was the author of The Angel of the Revolution, and A Honeymoon In Space to name a couple.

Griffith's original novel, A Honeymoon In Space, was written at the turn of the 20th century. A ground breaking story at the time, it introduced a Steampunk SF theme through illustrations. This classic story imagines a solar system full of alien life and adventure. A young American woman marries an English Lord and finds herself on the adventure of a lifetime. While touring outer space on her honeymoon the story takes the reader on a series of amazing encounters, visiting things such as the gentle Bird-Folk of Venus, Jupiter's horrifying monsters, and the aerial battleship fleets of the evil Martian warlords. Featuring the first publication’s original illustrations, it is said that this is a landmark novel in the genre of science fiction.
BeaslePunk's style of art is unique in a sense that it covers so many genres. 
Steampunk is where it all started for Don & Janet. As creative epics, they've always (and still do) enjoyed the make-believe culture. 

Their first encounter came January of 2015 when they decided to brave up and put their artwork on display. It was so well received they were humbled and excited in the same breath! 
It has become a snowball affect for them as their artwork recognition is climbing rapidly, and within a little over a year they have crafted over 200 pieces, nearly selling out every where they exhibit.
