Farm Girl
This weekend in May–Victoria Day here in Canada–is often a wet and cool one and this year is no exception. We need the rain so I can’t complain. My house […]

Hiding Out In The Woman Cave
We’re in the midst of some home improvement projects.
There’s dust and noise and I’m making decisions about tile, toilets, vanities, paint colour. (Did I mention that there’s dust? Oh so much dust.)
Thank goodness I have my quiet Woman Cave away from the chaos where I can hide out, listen to music, and work on some writing and photography projects.
This week I’ve been photographing pretty chive blossoms I picked from my garden.
Still life photography is saving my sanity.

Being Still; Looking Closely
The other day we went for a drive in the country and Gerry cut a few branches and flowers from various weeds and shrubs by the side of the road. I wanted them for a couple of photography prompts I’m working on for the Be Still | One Year Wiser class I’m taking with the […]

Lilac Time
I’ve had the best time this week with lilacs. So beautiful, so fragrant, and fraught with memories of people and places that exist only in my memories . . .they’re my absolute favourite flower. It won’t be long before this season’s blossoms are simply memories too. I’m considering getting a few prints–and maybe some cards–made with some […]

Tulip Time
So much beauty unfolding in the spring and it’s a delight to slow down enough to watch it happen. These beautiful dark coloured tulips are blooming in my yard now. I love how they look with back lighting. . . . and in a pretty pot. They’re equally pretty with side lighting! Adding a few […]

The Morning After
I walk through the rooms in my silent home gathering treasures. A doll dress and bonnet on a stool; papers, markers and crayons on the coffee table; pink and white plastic flowers twisted together in a bouquet; a plastic doll’s baby bottle; wooden popsicle sticks left over from a craft activity; containers of sparkles; so […]

Daily Bread
I remember coming home from school on days when Mom baked bread. Oh my, how good the house smelled! I can’t think of anything that tastes as good as a slice of fresh bread slathered with butter. When Mom baked bread it was an all-day effort. I know, because I began baking bread with her […]

Salad Days
When we ventured down to the community garden plot for the first time this year I was delighted to see that the kale and Swiss chard had overwintered. They’ve grown considerably due to the unseasonably warm temperatures we’ve been enjoying and yesterday I harvested the first of the kale. We haven’t enjoyed any fresh greens […]

Seeking Sonder
This afternoon, in a round-about way and with an acute case of writer’s block (perhaps more accurately termed writer’s avoidance as I was avoiding a topic that had called to me for much of the day), I stumbled upon The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows and I was delighted to enter in for a time. It is, […]

Leap Day Gratitude
It’s February 29th today. Leap Day as some are calling it. It’s been just another day for me. And then I saw a post on a beautiful and inspiring blog I’ve started following called Keeping With the Times where blog author, Barb, posted a list of 29 moments worth celebrating about this day. She had […]
