Editing Hell!
Wow, six days have passed since my last post here? Well, I'm still in editing hell for my novel; but I did receive my first scifi episode back from my beta reader. Yay! Hopefully, I will upload the first episode of the scifi series this week and make some significant progress on my novel. Wish me luck. Back to work!

First Episode In Scifi Series Done!
It has been three years since I started writing my scifi series "After The Darkness" and I am finally finished with the first episode. It's kind of embarrassing. Honestly. I mean I am a professional writer, so why has it taken me this long to take care of my business. And yes, taking care of my business means more than just ghostwriting for others so I can make a living. It means writing MY fiction so that I can make a life. I have won several awards for my fiction writing and I still have been putting off the big leap. No more. 2012 is my year to do great things in fiction. I have written the first episode of an ongoing scifi series and now I am working on editing my novel. But that's not all. I am making a commitment to write at least four other works of fiction in addition to the novel and the series. I can do this. I did the calculations on my word count and in the past six years I have produced 21,000 words a week — at least — for clients. Why can't I do that and more for myself? There is no reason why I can't do it, that's why I won't have anymore excuses. I'm making that pledge today!

Getting On My Soapbox
So I was looking through the web today and came across this article about writers being entitled little brats and this article about big banks censoring literature. And I just can't remain silent for one moment longer.
My Thoughts On Censorship
Once we start telling people what they can and can't write, we begin to limit creativity. We all have our opinions about what's tasteful literature; but let's face it…tasteful has an arbitrary definition. I'm sure some people might object to some of the themes I explore in my book(s); but I'm sure glad they can't stop me from publishing it. But writer beware, there are some countries where writing can get you killed or banished if you're not writing what those in powerful positions think you should write.
My Thoughts On Writer's Entitlement
Writers have the right to be entitled. This idea that writers should work for nothing or just for pittance is absurd. The writer of this article compared writers to plumbers. But I bet you $100 he would never get a plumber to work for free…not even an apprentice plumber. So to all those who think we should do away with the writer's right to get paid for copies of their work…I say shove it where the sun don't shine. I'll let Harlan Ellison speak on that subject…

Making Progress
I've been busy working this week and I've made a lot of progress. I did a re-edit of my short story, "The Shelter" and totally redid the cover. I also setup accounts for goodreads and shelfari as well as joined Kindleboards. So it looks like I will finally get around to marketing my book. I will post links here once I setup my profiles. If you look on the left panel there are some progress bars on how I'm doing with my projects so you guys can keep me accountable. 
My goal is to finish writing the first scifi episode this week and to edit at least 10,000 words of my novel by next week. So there, I've written it here, so that means I have to do it. Right 
I'm really happy with my new cover. I used Gimp for the design and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to design their own book cover. It's free and easy to use. I just watched a ton of youtube videos on how to use Gimp and within a few hours I was designing like crazy. No exaggeration!

I Finally Did It!
I've been working full-time as a writer for over six years now. But for even longer than that I've wanted to make my living from fiction. Well, my short story "The Shelter" is the first step to accomplishing that goal. On this blog I will talk about my upcoming work, my writing journey and general issues that I'm passionate about.
After roleplaying for nearly two years, the character Sunni Brown (known to players in CD as SunHi Gavilan) I found myself with a fully developed character. It was amazing because I had absolutely no idea that this would happen. My friend Nicole had prodded me for years about signing up for Second Life because we were both lovers of the Sims game. I was resistant initially; but after discovering other writers in SL's roleplaying sims I was hooked. It was supposed to be just for fun. Something to do after a long day of writing for other people; but it ended up morphing into so much more. If someone had asked me if a character I created for a game would somehow inspire me to write a short story and a novel, I would have thought they were crazy. Really!
Speaking of novels, I have 118 pages done and I'm currently in the rewrite phase. I really want to get this novel published this summer; but I'm giving myself until the Fall because you just never know what changes will be needed. Writing a novel has been one of the biggest challenges I have ever faced in terms of writing. I use to think that writing screenplays was difficult; but I now think novels top the list of difficult forms.
