Germany: Castles along the Rhine Part 1

When my friend remydoodle visited this summer, we took two cruises on the Rhine. One was a one-hour trip and the other one was a seven hour trip. You can book all kinds of cruises with various companies, and if you ever visit Koblenz, I'd highly recommend to at least take one trip.

There are a lot of castles--some are in private hands, some are open to the public--and ruins scattered along the

Germany: Loreley

Most people associated a mermaid with this name. In reality, the Loreley is a rock on the eastern bank of the Rhine, near to Goarshausen. This particular rock marks the narrowst part of the river between Switzerland and the North Sea. The rock is 65m high, and there's a very strong current, which had lead to a lot of boat accidents.

Several myths are told about the Loreley. One of the

Cross Stitch Wednesday & Free Pattern #4

I know, technically it's not Wednesday anymore. Yeah, I forgot to post yesterday. Can I blame our upcoming move for it? I'm really not fond of moving; everything's chaotic, everyone is cranky and so on.

This time I'm offering you a cross stitch pattern of Hugh Laurie (House MD). I got this from www.PictureCraftwork.com. You can upload any picture you like and they convert it into a pattern for

Germany: Fortress Ehrenbreitstein

In honor of the Howloween Blog Hop (you can still enter the contest to win one of my books) I'm talking about the Fortress Ehrenbreitstein today. The fortress is situated on a mountain on the right side of the Rhine, opposite of Koblenz. Please visit this site for detailed historic information.

When my good friend remydoodle and I visited Koblenz this summer we also made a trip to the fortress.

Cross Stitch Wednesday & Free Pattern #3

I'm still fighting, er, working on the horse project. I'm getting there but it's going slow.

I'm always looking out for websites that offer free patterns and this website offers free patterns as well as instructions, tips and what supplies you need.

On to this week's free pattern. This time we have a cute beagle puppy:

Germany: Koblenz

Koblenz is situated in Rhineland, more precisely in Rhineland-Palatinate (in German: Rheinland-Pfalz). It's one of the most beautiful old towns in Germany and well worth a visit.

There are a lot of monuments, historical buildings and of course the Rhine promenade. There are several places where you can board a boat and take a trip on the Rhine. When my good friend Rosie and I visited Koblenz we
