In the Moment
I’m learning to trust God moment by moment. This matters for someone who needs to know the future plans, the future solutions, and the future scenarios that might go wrong. God invites us to journey with Him and trust, moment by moment, when we’re not sure what’s happening next or if we can handle this or that situation. We might think to ourselves, “What will I do then?” Well, God will be there. God will provide then.
Of course I don’t have what I need right now for an imaginary future. When I’m in that place, God will then provide. Not before. Not too late. Right then.

Just for Admiring
I heard a pastor share something profound. He related a story about the time he was little and he and his mother visited a photoshoot inside a home that Southern Living would feature in the magazine. For this photoshoot, the designer spread out the most beautiful kitchen table featuring a delicious meal. Everything looked so scrumptious to this little boy. He waited patiently and then finally exclaimed, “When do we get to eat!”
The designer said, “Oh, this food is for admiring; it’s not for eating. Nobody will eat this food.” In essence, it might have been prop food, or food that would spoil under the bright lights in a photoshoot.
The pastor said that our life can be like thatespecially based on the way we present ourselves on social media. We offer a version of ourselves to admire, but we nourish no one. Nothing we offer nourishes others. I loved listening to his example of how the beautiful table nourished nobody. It made me think about whether I’m motivated by being admired, or if I’m motivated by offering a life that feeds the souls of others.

A Song On Repeat
I heard this song at a conference, and I can’t stop listening to it. It’s a beautiful song. It’s called “Look What the Lord Has Done” arranged with Carl Cartee. Lately, I’m filling more of my life with worshipful music, especially as I travel.

A Great Prayer from Psalm 143
I love the clarity we find in Psalm 143:8, 10. David simply requests this of God:
Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. . . Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground.
Psalm 143:8a, 10
So many of us don’t know what to do next, and we aren’t certain of God’s will for our lives in a practical, daily sense. How wonderful that we can pray for God to show us, to lead us, to teach us! We can trust that He will put ideas in our minds; that He will open doors of opportunity; that He will shape our desires; and that He will make the ground level before us as we journey down the path of His will. He will “make [us] know” what we need to do.
What a mystery! I love saying this to the Lord from 2 Chronicles 20:12: “We don’t know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
Here we go: God will make us know what to do next.

Better Than I Should Be
I asked at TSA agent how he was doing. He said, “Better than I should be!’ I laughed and smiled as I passed through security and continued on with my itinerary.
I thought about his response for a long time. Aren’t we all doing better than we should be because of what God has accomplished for us? I loved that response.

A Favorite from College
This song, “Hold Me Jesus,” from Rich Mullins, meant so much to me in college. I love the piano, especially. This isn’t an old hymn, but I rank it high as a song that helps me connect with the Lord.

Raise an Ebenezer
I absolutely love “Come Thou Fount” from my days as a counselor at Camp Greystone. I learned from Libby Miller about raising my Ebenezer from 1 Samuel 7 where Samuel sets up a memorial stone called an Ebenezer which translates as the stone of help. It’s a reminder of God as our Helper and a mark of His love, protection, and power. Listen and enjoy that part of “Come Thou Fount.” This version is very peaceful and worshipful.

Four Days of Hymns for You
For the next several days, I’m traveling to speak on Sent and Six Conversations. While I always record my Live with Flair moments in my journal, this weekend, I won’t record on the blog. Instead, I’m providing my favorite hymns each day for you to enjoy. Today, it’s a beautiful version of “Holy, Holy, Holy.” Enjoy! I like the drums in this version:
