I plucked a wildflower

Written by my father, published posthumously

I plucked a wildflower from my resting place   And it was blue, as if it wore my name, my face   But I was startled suddenly by a snake   Who slinked across the path with one tail shake      I plucked a wildflower from my grave, behind   And in silence, my daughter came to mind   Where are you now? The wave swept you away   In a velvety evening, an eve of dew and ray
I was penetrated by a pouring rain   And for a moment, somehow, I felt alive again   Sensing me, the worms began to rave   I plucked a wildflower from my grave.
And a chorus of crickets kicked off a singsong   Climbing up the wall I danced away, so long!   There's no death in life, no need to feel so sad,   I would've come back already if it were all that bad
There were a few I didn't know among the mourners    I asked myself where they came from, what far corners    The crowd was small, such pity! Some were sad   To those who cried, I smiled and waved a tad.
I left countless bills behind me, heavy debts   Come over, I'll pay them back, you bet!   I stare at you across the big divide   With obvious advantage: no interest on this side

★★★★★ bookreview: "HOME is an homage to her father... poetry that's never been placed before the public until now"

Guess: How Many Pageviews?

At the end of each month, I check the 'behind the scenes' statistics to analyze trends, and to learn if there is anything I can do to make this blog more attractive to you. Guess what? The number of pageviews has increased this month--again! It is now an amazing 13,457 pageviews! This must be a result, at least in part, of the launch of two new audiobooks--Apart From Love and A Favorite Son

Since the production process drew a lot of interest, I described it here using the voices of my wonderful narrators, David Kudler (for Yankle's and Ben's voices) and Heather Jane Hogan (for Anita's.) I am so grateful to them, not only for their talent, but beyond that--for making the production process such a joy. And I am grateful to you for coming here, to share this joy with me. You made this a happening place!

Two down--two to go!

Now that two of my books--Apart From Love and A Favorite Son--have come out in audiobook edition, is this the time to rest on my laurels? The answer--you guessed it!--is this: absolutely not!

So what I am working on now?

First of all, my poetry and prose book Home is about to enter production, so I am listening to auditions, enjoying both the voices and the interpretations of the writing.
And second, a new book will soon be coming out... I will announce its name and unveil the cover next week. Stay tuned!

Home: In Tribute of my Father

I am so grateful for the second opportunity to be featured on Brian M. Hayden's blog! He is a dear friend, and the author of The Road to Transplant (and more books) where he takes you along to witness the final mile on his incredible journey to a heart transplant.

This time, my guest post focused on the opening poems in my book, Home. These poems, and the entire book, is in tribute of my father:

This is the place where he put pen to paper…
But clung to the wall, the shelves are now bare
All that remains of his words is but vapor
All you can spot is but a dent in his chair

Place A Favorite Son on the Shelf of Your Library

Yoo-hoo! Just got this note from the Reference Services in Santa Monica Public Library, regarding A Favorite Son:

"Our materials selection staff has decided to add this title to the collection.  Please be aware it can take several weeks before added items are available for checkout.  In this case, since the book is not available through the Library's usual vendor, Baker & Taylor, there may be an additional delay."

My work relies entirely on word-of-mouth. Your word-of-mouth. So if you wish to help me spread the word, please bring this book to the attention of your own library. Tell the librarian  to order this ★★★★★ book--18 reviews so far--so you and other readers may read it.

Mini-Interview about Home

Lia London, the author of full-length novels in a variety of genres, has invited me for a second mini-interview on her site, Clean Indie Reads. Her questions focused this time on my poetry book Home. She also posted her own review of the book, and a review by Hall of Fame Amazon reviewer, Grady Harp:

"There are vignettes, streams of poetry, and scenes of such exquisite depth and beauty that I found myself taken aback at the skill of the writing and the power it had to touch my heart."
--Lia London, author
"This radiant book is an exploration of the bond between a daughter and father and the book overflows with some of the most eloquent poetic moments in print.  Home is an invitation, a very personal one, and should not be passed over." --Grady Harp, Hall of Fame reviewer for Amazon

My Chat at the Chateau

It was such a pleasure, and an honor too, to be invited for a chat with Lisette Brodey, the author of Crooked MoonMolly Hacker Is Too Picky! and My Way to Anywhere. Just being here, at Lisette Writer's Chateau, makes you feel as if you have arrived from a ride at the French countryside, the gate opens before you and now a place is cleared beside her in front of the fireplace, where a little flame is dancing before your eyes...

Check it out: my chat at the chateau.

Wow! It Has Arrived, It's Finally Here!

This is a magical moment for me, one I have been waiting for! Apart From Love the audiobook edition, is finally out! Highly praised 5-star novel, 48 reviews:

"There is a quality so deep and raw in Apart from Love that it's almost impossible to put this book down. In my opinion, Uvi Poznansky writes like a painter. She starts with a clean canvas and dabs a little paint here and a little paint there as she develops her characters and creates her masterpiece. Her strokes then become broader, more passionate, more vivid and vibrant as she continues to let her characters' stories unfold. She draws you in to a deeper level than you might actually want to go as she ignites the fire to your own love, passions, and fears."

Wasn't Sure I was Clean. Now I Know I Am!

Lia London has been writing on-demand scripts and narrations for over thirty years, and now has turned her hand to writing full-length novels in a variety of genres. After several years as an English teacher, she now runs a collaborative fiction website and coaches new authors. I am greatly honored that she has invited me for a mini-interview on her blog.

Great Welcome, Great Questions at Author Alliance

I am so thrilled that my interview with the Author Alliance has gone live! I loved the way it opened, with this question:

I understand that that your father was a great influence on you becoming a
writer?

I started telling stories and composing poems before I knew how to hold a pen between my fingers. My father, a poet, writer and artist, would write these for me, and even quote words I invented. He would ask me to help him rhyme his poems, and later on, when I was twenty years old, he asked me to give him a selection of my poems, for inclusion in a book of poetry he was about to publish. I regarded my poetry as an intimate expression of my feelings, in response to which he said: “Uvi, once the ink leaves the pen, once the words are on paper, they do not belong to you anymore. They belong to the readers.” So I relented, and he published my poetry. Now, six years after his passing, I have returned the favor, and published his work–the work he kept away from everyone during the last two decades of his life–together with mine, in the poetry book called Home. Home. A simple word; a loaded one. You can say it in a whisper; you can say it in a cry. Expressed in the voices of father and daughter, you can hear a visceral longing for an ideal place, a place never to be found again.
