Full Circle
The best part of having MaybeSomethingBeautiful out in the world is that now it has the potential to inspire others to come together and make something beautiful in their communities. In April, Isabel, Rafael, and I met in San Diego to share our book and paint a mural together with the incredible community at San Diego Cooperative Charter School, along with our lovely editor, Jeannette, and Stefanie from Full Circle Literary. We brought our book full circle—from the inspiring murals that Rafael and Candice created in their community, to the spark of an idea for a book, to a book, to a mural together. Here are some of my favorite pictures from the event that still glows brightly in my memory.

Books Have Wings
I want to thank everyone who supported me and our book. The last two weeks have been pretty special. It was surreal for me that after nine years, Maybe Something Beautiful actually flew out into the world. I've heard from friends and family afar that they picked up the book and read it to their children and grandchildren. I received so many pictures of people I love holding the book in their hands. I wished that I could sit down with each of them and share their company and a story. But, of course, I couldn't. Nor did I need to because books have wings. They can fly above borders and barriers and wrap themselves around readers like a hug. Thanks for helping Maybe Something Beautiful take flight!

It's a Book Birthday!
Mira and the muralist are making their world-wide debut TODAY! Don't you just love her party hat? This is the story of a little girl who meets the muralist, a kindred spirit in the quest to bring light and color to their neighborhood. Together they transform the walls, the sidewalks, and the hearts of their community. Even though this book was officially born today, it's been a loooong time in the coming. It is the beautiful result of true collaboration, mutual respect, determination, and the belief that if we all come together we can make the world a more beautiful place. I can't thank all of the amazing people who were involved in the creation of this book enough. Rafael and Candice López are the two of the most inspiring, talented people I know. Their vision and community activism make this world a better place. Rafael's incredible artwork graces each page. Isabel Campoy, my heart. It has been such an honor to create something so beautiful with you. Adriana, thank you for believing in the story. And Jeannette at HMH, thank you for your constant enthusiasm and masterful editing. It's a beautiful day!
